To hide the side tabs in the side bar open up ~/.kde/share/config/konqsidebartng.rc in kate.

Now look for a line that say HideTabs=false

It will be ther in the top and in each profile's secion. Change it to true for wach profile you wan to hide them in. Save and restart konq.

To hide the menubar simply hit ctrl-M or Settings -> Hide Menubar. Ctrl-M to reopen it again. - Sep 06 2006
Thanks for the quick update and fixing the tab on bottom bug! - Aug 29 2006
Can't edit my post so I'm replying here. Just wanted to note that I have selected tab highlighting off. Here's a shot of the problem - Aug 25 2006
There seems to be a problem with the selected tab with tabs on bottom of the window. There's a one pixel light colored line drawn across the tab 2 pixels up. It looks like a continuation of the highlight to the left side, but it looks out of place. - Aug 25 2006

Runs great here the only problem is that it is not Twinview or Xinerama aware. This seems to be the case with all of the docks for Linux. When set to the bottom or top position it will open across both screens. Not too big an issue but with 2 different resolutions most of the dock is off screen. - Aug 25 2006

Wow that's really striking. I have been running XGL and therefor using gnome-window-decorator, but this might make me fire up kwin again. Would like too see some more themes like this. - Jul 10 2006

Kde Menu Style (Idea)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by VectoR 6 comments

Nice idea but you can do something similar with the current kmenu as I have.
Just edit your menu and put all folders inside a submenu, then put links to all your favorite apps on top-level. Like this ->

I don't have the recent menu items on there but that's easy to add back also. - Apr 19 2006

I agree 100% I have no problem with porn at all, but it doesn't belong here. There's a time and place for everything and this is not it. - Apr 01 2006

Everything looks great here. I don't use karamba or the baghira thing, but it looks perfect. I have made a couple of decgen themes too, and I'll be uploading them as soon as I can. They are ports of Metacity and Xfce decos, so I want to contact the authors first. - Oct 01 2005

I'm using 3.5 beta and this option is in the Window Decoration Configuration dialog. There's only like 3 lines of code to add to the event filter to support it. I've added the code to all the windecos that I use, since I love this feature. - Sep 20 2005

Icon Sub-Sets by mavvert 23 comments

I've been waiting for somone to make this theme. I'm far too lazy to do it myself :) The one thing I missed about my old Gnome desktop was the icons. I have the Korilla set, it's pretty cool but not the same. It wouldn't be that hard to make a program or script that converts icon themes from gnome to KDE or vice-versa, but once again, I'm way to lazy to do it myself. Thanks very much for doing this work. - Aug 29 2005

I'm compiling this right now, but from the screenshots it looks perfect. I had done a very similar hack job on plastik. Got rid of the lines on scrollbars, and the dithering in the trough, etc. But I deleted the code. Oh well I'm not a coder but I can cut and paste with the best of them :) By the way, what is the windeco in the 2nd screenshot? Thanks alot. - Aug 25 2005

Freehand Gestures

Various KDE Stuff by nhnFreespirit 4 comments

There is an old program for Windows called Pop-Mouse that is similar to this idea. It is no longer developed and the company went out of business, but I still have to have this program on any Windows box I use. It uses what it calls "glicks". You just shake the mouse back and forth, up and down, or in a circle and it would do just about anything. For example a quick counter-clockwise circle would go back in a web browser. If you're interested in trying in out, and have a Windows box handy, I will send you the setup program. - Apr 27 2005
