If you have ambitions to start a plugin enabled backlight applet, or invent a unified backlight api you have my best wishes and of course I will contribute to it, if there is anything I can do. My applet is a mere frontend for a console backlight adjuster, which needs root access (write access to /dev/mem) and was not written by me. - Feb 18 2007

Seems you made a nice applet for "normal" notebooks. Congratulations for that. Unfortunately I couldn't test it on my iMac. I don't even have the /sys/class/backlight device. The slider didn't move and when I removed the applet from my panel kicker crashed :-)
Looks like we have different user bases. ;-)
Dunno if there is any advantage for the users if we merge... - Feb 18 2007

Yes, you should be able to compile it if you just copy the "macbook-backlight.c" as "backlight.c" to the "backlight" directory. The makefile works for both. - Feb 16 2007

Oh, you are right, the MacBook does not have an ATI graphic card. I will change the description.
You could try this tool (if you can compile it). It should have the same syntax as "backlight", so my KMacBacklight should handle it.

I only own a iMac with ATI X1600 :-/
Thank you for the report. - Feb 16 2007
