Royale Vista II for emerald

Compiz Themes by dobee 11 comments

Creative? I'm sorry, creative would be creating something new and distinctive for Linux...not porting or ripping off a common feature of another OS. There are tons of vista emerald themes already guys. In every color and permutation you can imagine. You can call that creativity all you want but the reality is quite the opposite. - Sep 01 2008

I'm sick of people posting crap that, well...looks like crap! How can you stand those awful dark browns, black, and baby poop oranges??? Ibex had better offer some alternate themes if this is what they have up their sleave for the default. Yuck! - Aug 08 2008

I have the Murrine SVN engine properly installed and other Murrine themes work, but when I try to use yours, I get old Win95 style widgets. I've tried installing theme to /usr/share/themes as root as well as to /home/username/.themes to no avail. Any suggestions? I would really like to use your theme. Thanks. - Aug 07 2008

I installed this theme and I have to agree, it's just about perfect. However, my gnome weather applet's text is black (as is that of USP slab menu.) Can you tell me how to modify the gtkrc file to correct these problems? Otherwise, the theme really is perfect. Thanks. - Aug 05 2008

Parsix Sunflower on blue

Nature by cmost 3 comments

Hi guys! Thanks for the comments. The icon theme is the Oxygen Refit 2 (the blue version obviously;) it comes in a wide range of colors now: black, white, red, green & blue. Very high quality, they're inspired by those found in KDE 4.

As for the screenshot, I'm using Ksnapshot instead of Gnome's far too limited screen capture utility. Ksnapshot allows you to capture all or part of the screen, specific windows, and allows you to set a delay (which is how I managed to grab the menu too.)

The menu is an Ubuntu third party project called USP. It works perfectly fine on Debian (which Parsix is based.) - Jul 27 2008

GTK Theme: Enterprise

I really love that you were so responsive in adding the gradient to the panel. It now, IMO looks fantastic. I'm wondering, if you might be willing to incorporate a few more improvements. Might I suggest the following Murrine theme for usage as the base of your theme, rather than the darker one you're currently using.

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ClearMurrine?content=85198

The ClearMurrine theme is more configurable and will support rgba transparency (when the 0.6 Murrina engine is released.) Failing the use of the above theme as the base, is it possible to "uncolorize" the scrollbars in your theme? This is great work! Keep it up!!! :-) - Jul 24 2008

I really like your theme. It's clean and polished and I like the subtle use of black. one suggestion I would have is to use a gradient for the black panel. Make it shiny maybe, or glass-like. Otherwise, fantastic! - Jul 23 2008
Murrina verde e blu

GTK2 Themes by 1pol 7 comments

I did indeed enable the animation. Upon investigation of RGBA in Gnome I discovered that applications have to support RGBA for it to work. Otherwise, you'll see little to no difference against ordinary Murrine. The scant few applications that work (most requiring hacking, patches to the source code or plugins) can be found here: http://www.cimitan.com/murrine/rgba-support/list

In my opinion, until this is more widely supported by Gnome and its applications its a waste of time trying to implement it. Just use Compiz. :-) - Jul 15 2008

I've compiled and installed the SVN (0.6) version of Murine, but I don't seem to have transparency effects. Is there a compilation switch I need to add when I compile Murine? Should I not be running Compiz or Emerald? Maybe a dumb question, but I'm sure others have it too. Thanks if you can help. - Jul 15 2008

Hi! Thanks for the tip...gee, that was easy. Also, you may want to refrain from categorizing this (or other) theme as "Ubuntu download" when in fact it would work on any Gnome based distribution. Some of us have a pet peeve about downloads being labeled as specific for a specific distribution when in fact they could be used on any distribution. Thanks again for the theme!! - Jul 04 2008

I saw your BlueHuman theme and was going to ask you if you considered making a Green one! And here it is! However, the green you chose is a bit harsh for my green themed system. I'm wondering if you might prepare one using one of the following colors, which are paler and more pleasing to the eye: (Or, can you tell me how to modify your theme to use my own colors! Thanks so much!)

Common sense would seem to dictate that if you're going to release multiple sizes of a wallpaper, you would do so by zipping them all together in a single download, or attaching the various sizes as screenshots in one post. I don't understand why you posted this Emerald theme as an 'Ubuntu download.' Emerald works on any Linux distribution that's running Compiz or Beryl. You might be shocked by this revelation but there are about 700 other Linux distributions besides Ubuntu. - Jun 20 2008

Vista-Ubuntu

Beryl/Emerald Themes by cafeinoz 5 comments

I certainly don't believe freedom has rules. I am merely pointing out that if this submitter wants his theme to proliferate, then he would do better to name it something that doesn't imply that it can only be used on only one of about 700 Linux distributions. Yes, some newbies will think that, trust me. I also pointed out (and I would bet many others will agree) that the vista window decoration has been done to death (I'm guilty too!) But hey, if someone wants to limit himself and Linux by styling it to resemble a cheap knock-off of Microsoft's offering, who am I to judge? - May 25 2008

While one is free to name his theme whatever he likes, I'd like to know what makes this theme "Ubuntu" specific? In fact, what makes this theme different from the literally hundreds of other Emerald themes that have shamelessly ripped off Vista (and look alike,) rather than being new or unique? My points are simple: Ubuntu isn't Linux (there are about 700 different Linux distributions;) nothing in Vista is new or innovative. - May 25 2008

And obviously that was done as a parody of Vista; hence the phrase "Hasta La Vista." Furthermore, I change my wallpaper images as frequently as I change underwear. Geesh! I don't care for Vista and haven't run Windows on any of my machines for years. It's not that I object to Vista inspired themes when they're original works. When someone tries desperately to replicate another OS in every detail, so that it's nearly indistinguishable from the real thing in some crazy attempt to fool themselves (and presumably others) that I draw the line. All that energy could go into something new and unique for Linux. - Apr 20 2008

Instead of making a separate submission to Gnome-look.org for each size of the same wallpaper, why not bundle all the sizes into a ZIP and submit that. Alternately, you can make multiple download links to different sizes, in a SINGLE gnome-look.org submission. A little common sense before you post goes a long way. - Apr 15 2008

So let's see...you have a blue-green stripe across the top of your windows and a black taskbar...have you fooled yourself that you're running Vista? Why not focus your creative energy into coming up with something new and innovating. Microsoft's shoddy crap isn't new or innovative. - Apr 13 2008

I don't understand this need of some users to try to "fool" themselves. You're not using Windows or MacOS, so why pretend by adding their themes, icons, taskbars etc.? It's just dumb! As another user so elegantly put it: don't imitate, innovate! - Apr 10 2008

Hardy Theme

GTK2 Themes by Mariux 95 comments

When are Ubuntu people going to finally get off the Orange / Brown / dark theming mentality? Dark brown swirly wallpaper; bright garish orange icons... where does it end? It's a "love it" or "hate it" proposition. I for one, hate it! A more pleasing compromise is in order. If your theme should become the Hardy standard, it will be the first thing to go upon booting the system. - Jan 23 2008

I made it myself. You can too, provided you're using the Aurora GTK theme engine. Open any folder and switch to list view. See the new bar towards the top, just above the file list? Use ksnapshot to capture this region. Open it in Gimp and then crop it to reveal a segment of the bar. Resize to match the height of your gnome panel. Save as *.png image. Select this as your gnome-panel background. Easy! :-) If you happen to not be using the Aurora GTK engine, PM me and I'll send you a copy of the file. Good luck! - Jan 18 2008
