That'll give you YUM (Fedora), Zypper (openSUSE), URPMI (Mageia), APT (Debian/Ubuntu) and likely others. - Jun 06 2014

Dolphin Service Menus by labrum 229 comments
1) Put the files audioconvert.desktop and audiofrommovie.desktop into $KDEROOT/services/ServiceMenus/ (example: on Fedora, that's /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/).
2) Edit both of them to add Type=Service to the [Desktop Entry] menu.
3) Add KonqPopupMenu/Plugin to the list of ServiceTypes; this tells Konqueror & Dolphin that this is an Action Menu in the new version.
That's it. You don't even have to patch the scripts, since they'll use the KDE4 kdialog instead of the KDE3 one, no problem. These adjustments will get the menus showing up in the right-click menus like they do in KDE3. - Jul 29 2008

If it just says "Copy to $KDE4ROOT/share/apps/desktopthemes/" (and I've seen such before), know that generlaly, $KDE4ROOT is /usr (if there is an existing /usr/share/apps directory, that's probably it; just create a directory desktopthemes and put the theme in it). - Jul 16 2008

Seriously. I have yet to locate an app I make more use of, except for Konqueror directly. In fact, I wouldn't have considered moving to KDE4 without KRename. I found myself wishing there was an equivalent app for performing the same sort of batch naming, only for words in text files...
In short, this is by far the most useful app ever... - Mar 18 2008

I tested it both the regular way (./configure, make, make install) and with the RPM builder (which technically does the same thing, but is somewhat more picky about certain things), so it should be good. - Aug 24 2007

However, I notice that generally the text will be black for the first few seconds in certain Gtk2 programs (Firefox is a major example), and I can tell you right now it's not the gtk-qt-theme. I don't have it installed. I set the Gtk theme directly through the Gnome Control Center from KDE and started gnome-settings-daemon to make sure the Gtk programs pick up the styling properly. - Aug 17 2007

Oh, if the original programmer is interested, I can send the patch I wrote. It's not RPM-specific, so it should work for DEB and TGZ based distros as well. - Aug 09 2007

Actually, that's why I started to hack on it to use HAL, as I mentioned the last time I posted here. I'll give creating the package a try again, though, just in case ;) - Jun 13 2007

1) This being a Fedora theme, I think it might be a good idea to produce a version that uses the Bluecurve icons instead of the Crystal icons. Remember, Bluecurve is the default icon theme in Fedora.
2) Maybe a DNA-based one, for FC6? - Feb 23 2007

openSUSE puts regular programs in /usr, KDE programs in /opt/kde3 and GNOME programs in /opt/gnome. There are other programs that get put under /opt, but for the most part, those are the ones that count.
Fedora Core distros place everything under /usr and don't put anything in /opt at all. So the only difference between an openSUSE package and a Fedora package is that openSUSE needs the KDE stuff in /opt/kde3, and Fedora needs the KDE stuff in /usr. You're right; since emuexec is supposed to be generic, it should be in /usr in both. - Dec 26 2006
