I have my desktop set to iterate through each one of these backgrounds - each one is fantastic. Not noisy, not too placid... perfectly done. And having SVG scale so nicely makes it perfect for those awkward-sized screens.

Perfect underscore to the elegance and simplicity of a good desktop. - Jun 06 2007

Various Stuff by vicko 14 comments

Those with the latest Xorg X11 6.8.0 release can enable the new composite extension and create drop shadows around X11 windows, etc. with xcompmgr. Since it doesn't come with SuSE's RPMs (ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/XFree86/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.0-untested/i386/suse91) this is a handy lil' thing to have. - Sep 10 2004

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by samk242 17 comments

The pathname to the theme was /etc/bootsplash/themes/SuSE, instead of /etc/bootsplash/themes/metall-tux. - May 18 2004

The images paths in the config files were incorrect. Manually fixed 'em and things should be good now. - May 17 2004

Yeah, tried that... doesn't work anymore (the SuSEconfig module is gone, mkinitrd doesn't do the trick) - May 15 2004

Anyone figure out how to change bootsplashes in SuSE 9.1? - May 15 2004

Very schwag. I think people overlook how effective a nice bootsplash can be... it's a UI element that's entirely eyecandy, but nice splashes such as this one are times where people give Linux a second look as far as its overall "pretty" factor.

I say more bootsplashes, dammit! - May 14 2004
