Shoot, seems Evolution stopped getting mail from that account! Thanks for letting me know, as a few other people had emailed me as well. - Apr 11 2005

Hehe, I don't mind at all, and I like the addition of the toes for GNOME.

By the way, all that stuff is released under the GPL, so feel free to use it for whatever (well, as long as it complies with the GPL). - Apr 10 2005

This looks pretty similar to a fractal-type image generator written in Java I saw a few months ago.
I do like the style of it, though :-D - Mar 24 2005

Another excellent release. Clearlooks just keeps getting better and better!

As an aside, is there any way to install this on a box without having root access? Where do I put the engine or how do I tell GTK+ where to look for the engines? - Mar 03 2005

Really great! I've been waiting for this new release for a while now and was beginning to give up!

For any GNOME users looking to have a similar window border as in the original screenshots, here is my port of XFCE-Winter: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=20140

I noticed that the sourceforge page is still blank; how is that coming along? If you would like some help with it, I'd be happy to design and/or implement the page. - Feb 25 2005

To be honest I really like the first screenshot. This doesn't mean I don't like the "rounded-everything" look, as I do like it.

I like the fact that the rounded edges only on the outside of the entire scrollbar give it a "whole" kind of look, as in, "look I'm a single widget" or something. Don't know why but it appeals to me ;-)

That said, for consistency purposes the other style is better.

I think Firefox and OpenOffice.org are problematic for most themes, and I vote to ignore them. - Jan 30 2005

Unless I'm mistaken it looks like there are two seperate functions that get called to draw the scrollbar buttons. The first draws the button itself, the second draws an arrow. The problem (correct me if I'm wrong) is that the button function was not passed an arrow direction, only the arrow function, so you can't tell which button is being drawn, just that you are being asked to draw a button. - Jan 30 2005

Yeah, sorry about that. I had to put it on the backburner for a few days to finish some other things.

You will probably notice that utility windows are now the same size as normal windows. I think it looks alright, but any feedback is appreciated.

Like I said on the forums, if anyone makes any modification I can include it in the "official" release if you contact me. - Jan 28 2005

This is really nice looking. Thank you!

I've been looking through the source and am going to play with it a bit (I've never made a theme engine before, but the actual drawing code doesn't really look that complicated). It's mostly gdk and math.

That screenshot of the upcoming version 0.2 looks great. The scrollbars in 0.1 are one of the things that bug me a bit, and they look much better in the shot.

Also, might I suggest a rounded progress bar as well? A rounded bar with a simpler gradient to match the rest of the theme, or did you have something else in mind?

Is there a repository or somewhere we can grab the latest sources? If not, I would suggest creating a Sourceforge.net project for the engine so others (like me) could try to help out. - Jan 15 2005
Pinux's Lila cursors theme

Cursors by pinux 22 comments

Might I suggest a green version, using the same colors found in the Lila themes and backgrounds?

Making the purple more of a secondary color really helped me to enjoy Lila, which is why I originally made those green backgrounds. I assume making the cursors green, white, or black would also help.

Nice theme :) - Dec 04 2004

I don't really have any tips. I have a few simple tutorials on my site (http://programmer-art.org), but they are very simple and getting outdated fast. Having said that, it's always good to try and get a background in the fundamentals of e.g. color theory and perhaps sketching/drawing/painting, and then just set aside a few hours some day, open Inkscape, and just let anything you feel flow. This is somewhat similar to a lot of warmup excersises that a student would go through in art classes, and helps loosen you up, get you used to the tool, and to give you some simple experience that can be used as a basis for what is possible in later pieces of art.

I do have some issues, but most of them have been solved in the soon-to-be announced Inkscape 0.39. - Jun 22 2004

I personally always use the latest version of Inkscape available here: http://www.inkscape.org
It's a fork of Sodipodi that is moving toward HIGification and already has plenty of nice extra features and a quick development cycle. - Jun 21 2004

Wallpaper is now up in the wallpapers section. GTK+ themes and GNOME splash also available, and later I'll put up the metacity theme (need to get home and make a new archive). - Jun 20 2004
