Orta

GTK2 Themes by SkiesOfAzel 337 comments

You nailed it, thanks. Works great on both my Arch and Sid desktops. No new features needed. I love the flexibility of the theme. One of the best gnome themes I've ever used.
Have a great weekend and thanks again! - Dec 18 2010

I get something similar with the preview thumbnail when using Sid but the theme itself works fine.(the minor bug posted above is unrelated)
Everything is totally fine with Arch which uses a newer gtk(2.22) and pixmap engine.
I think it has something to do with the pixmap version and if you get glitches actually using the theme, there is a workaround on the last tab of the theme's setup dialog. - Dec 16 2010

GTK2 Themes by SkiesOfAzel 337 comments

Hi,
First let me say that Orta is a very beautiful theme and I really enjoy using it.
There is one niggling little flaw though that I would really like to see addressed.
The standard clock applet text seems to be a couple of pixels off center (high).
I have tried a wide variety of fonts and panel sizes and it's consistent. If it wasn't for that, it would be perfect.
Thanks for an excellent theme! - Dec 13 2010

+1 Not too shabby for a wip. Interesting concept - very original. Works well with firefox too. Nice job, thanks! - Nov 02 2010
Although I will say I can see where it could be a funny practical joke to pull on somebody. :D

Murrine GTK+ Cairo Engine

GTK2 Themes by cimi86 370 comments

hi, when trying to compile the murrine engine (I am currently using 0.91 git):
./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-animation

I was getting this error:
checking for GTK... no
configure: error: GTK+-2.18 is required to compile murrine

so I wwent to check versions and I get:

$ dpkg -l libgtk[0-9]* | grep ^i

ii libgtk2-gladexml-perl 1.007-1
ii libgtk2-perl 1:1.221-4ubuntu2
ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.1-0ubuntu2
ii libgtk2.0-bin 2.20.1-0ubuntu2
ii libgtk2.0-cil 2.12.9-4
ii libgtk2.0-common 2.20.1-0ubuntu2
ii libgtk2.0-doc 2.20.1-0ubuntu2

I am a noob and may very well be missing something here, am I doing something wrong? If not, what do I need to do to make it work? Any help would be very welcomed.

Elegant Gnome Pack

Login fixed. Thank heavens for Ubuntu Tweak. Darned handy little tool!
The login list was obviously disabled and if you try to enable it from the Login Screen settings in Ubuntu (the native settings applet truly sucks!) you lose the auto-login. Ubuntu Tweak simply enables or disables the list without effecting the boot time auto-login.
Yay! All is well now and again, I am almost going to hate nuking this setup for Maverick.
Cheers! - Sep 12 2010
Elegant Gnome Pack

GTK2 Themes by arobase 784 comments

I understand what you're saying. Don't make assumptions. I'm a noob but a relatively adept one.

I only had the thing installed for about a day and during that time I made no changes to my login parameters or to any other part of the system for that matter. I did however use it to go back and forth between my normal themes and EG three times and as I recall EG was part of yesterday's updates.

Yes, I know how to change the login. (duh) But for the life of me, am having a hard time restoring myself as the default user for login after I log out while still retaining my autologin at boot. It used to work great. It shouldn't be a big deal, I'm the only account on this crazy thing other than root.

I prefer to do things by cli anyway, then I can see whats happening and it's a lot easier to fix things if it goes south. I'm just a victim of my own laziness.

When I have time, I'll go back to my Ubuntu install and fix it. There's always a way. It only has another month to live anyway before I upgrade. Damned non-rolling distros! Grrr...

I figure it serves me right for being lazy. Lesson learned - Never have a pack do for you what you can easily do for yourself.

Quote:Mm.. Do you understand how the packages install in the system?
Yes, I do actually. However, just as a suggestion - Would it be possible to install the same icon and cursor themes to a directory that is unique for Elegant-Gnome rather than the folders where they would reside by default if a person already had the packs?
Just a suggestion.
As far as the GDM thing, don't ask me bro. I don't have a clue as to how or why installing and then removing some theme stuff could possibly cause a problem there. I'm just a dumb noob.

But if it would be helpful to you,
I have a single user machine set to logon automatically.
Until yesterday, when I would log out for an abbreviated restart or something the default behavior was for it to bring me to the login screen with my username preselected. Ever since I removed the package it brings me to a blank login screen (no username preselected.)
Quote:Restoring function just restores your previous settings and it do this as it should. I've tested it too much times, so I can say
confidently that it works fine.
Beats me. Something changed after I removed the package. - Sep 12 2010
Elegant Gnome Pack

Well, it wasn't for me. After seeing it up close on my PC I decided I didn't really care for it. I mean, some of the coloring is nice and all but I can do that kind of stuff with Gnome Color Chooser.
Not too keen on the widgets and window borders. Too generic, it's like Shiki with barely visible mouseovers, nothing revolutionary - nice colors though. There are also some usability issues with things like selected text visibility in input boxes and the like.
The icons and cursors are nice, my personal favorites, in fact I was already enjoying them before I ever installed Elegant-Gnome but they were annoyingly removed when I uninstalled it.
Wallpaper has nice colors but the text is a tad bombastic, a textless version would be much nicer.
I don't know how, but I think it may have buggered up my gdm. Now, every time I log out and back in again I have to type in my name (single user machine) and I can't seem to get it back to the way it was using Ubuntu's Login Screen applet. I'll figure it out though.
In short, everything was perfect on this partition until I installed the pack and then removed it.
*BTW, I did use it to revert all changes it made prior to removal(I'm not a complete retard, only partial lol).*
No prob, after my initial irritation I reinstalled my stuff but I don't think I'll be down for any subsequent releases. Thanks anyway.

FYI: Ubuntu 10.04.1, Murrine 0.91.0-git201009100045-daily1-lucid1, gdm 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu3. - Sep 12 2010

You do really good work man. Like I said, I was experiencing a prob with the Murrine GTK daily. Maybe I should have done a complete removal of the old engine first? I don't know.
I might give your rpm a try on PCLOS Gnome and see how that is.
Anyway I'll be keeping an eye out for your new stuff.
Thanks again. - Aug 25 2010

The last one was really nice. This one wasn't too great, mainly because of the latest Murrine gtk.

I installed per your instructions - added the Murrine ppa, etc.

The gtk engine messed up my login screen and some other stuff after I updated and windows reminded me of a poor man's Shiki minus the gradients.
Flat, bland, no mouseovers, etc.

I tried multiple restarts to see if it would settle in and nada.

Obviously something was wrong on the Murrine side of it so I probably do not know what it was actually supposed to look like.

This happened on Ubuntu 10.04.1. I had to purge the Murrine ppa to get things happy again. Since this pack depends on it I had to remove it as well.

Too bad, but it did give me a heads up to a nice theme and icons. I like ReCrono and AwOken a lot.

Everything is fixed anyway.

Thanks. - Aug 25 2010
