Are you by any chance using KDE4? KScope will only build with KDE3. - Dec 01 2008

It works for me.
I installed the emacsextensions plugin, selected it under "Configure Editor"->"Plugins", and got all the entries in KScope's "Edit" menu. - Oct 17 2006

If you take a look at some of the discussions on The Dot, you will see that many people in the KDE community object to such names (i.e., names with a capital K in the middle). This is why amaroK was renamed and why there are new names for many applications in KDE4.
I believe that the name KScope is clear enough, so that users of KDE and Cscope immediately understand the nature of the application.
I do have a couple of ideas for a new name:
- Sourcerer
- Cyndrome
(both spelling mistakes are intentional). However, I'm not sure a name change is adequate at this moment. - Aug 25 2006

2. 'make dist' is no longer supported by autotools. I have my own script for publishing software, which basically checks out a module from CVS, runs make -f Makefile.cvs and then tar's and gzip's the result.
3. Yes, the problem was with __u32.

I am unable to compile KPowersave on FC5, but I suspect it's the distro's fault. It seems to be lacking a dbus-qt package. - Apr 20 2006

1. I'm not sure from the first line of your response whether it is or isn't the same thing...
2. Source distributions normally include a ready-to-use 'configure' file. If you intend to stick with the raw and files, please document it in INSTALL.
3. powersaved fails to compile on my machine. I had to include asm/types.h in brightness.cpp. - Apr 19 2006

Can you please elaborate on the relationship between powersave and KDE's laptop options?
I have recently installed FC5 on a new laptop and tried playing with KDE's battery power configuration (from KDE's control centre). The result was far from satisfactory. I ended up editing scripts in /etc/acpi.
If I install powersave (and KPowersave), how should I set KDE's parameters? - Apr 18 2006

That's strange. I checked it on several distributions and it seemed to compile just fine on all of them.

I understand the part about redistributing source code under an incompatible license. What I don't understand is why this applies to dynamic linking of libraries under different licenses.
KScope includes no source code from either Qt or graphviz. - Feb 18 2006

Graphic Apps by devqanava 14 comments

Actually you can also use Graphviz as a library. In this mode, Graphviz supports plug-in drawing engines, and you can use QCanvas for the output. I have done this in my project (KScope).
None the less, Graphviz has its shortcomings, so I am interested to see what comes out of this project. - Jan 09 2006

Shouldn't this be posted on Lately there have been too many postings on kde-apps that have nothing to do with actual applications (e.g., graphics, configuration scripts, "ideas", etc.). I suggest that such content be posted where it belongs, so that people looking for applications can find what they are looking for quickly and easily.

This comment has nothing to do with the actual buttons, which are very nice. - Aug 25 2005

Can someone please enlighten me: What is this Kbfx thing that has completely overtaken kde-apps lately? If it's a theme, why is it not posted on kde-look? - Aug 02 2005

Developers Apps by elahav 46 comments

Such a feature is often requested. I will have to give it some thought.
KScope will certainly not support the build tools directly. However, it may be possible to write some perl scripts to parse compiler output and then display the results in a window that allows you quick access to the relevant line. - Jul 05 2005

Developers Apps by elahav 46 comments

Sorry, my mistake.
I actually added this feature to the stable branch, and it was not merged into version 1.3.0.

Here is a patch against the development version. Save it into your kscope-1.3.0 directory, and then run patch -p0 < your_file_name.patch

Just in case anyone is interested, I have been playing around with a new Call Tree widget, based on graphviz. You can take a look at it by checking out the latest CVS version using BRANCH_GRAPHVIZ as the branch name. I would like to get some feedback on it, which will help me decide whether to use the new widget over the old call tree dialogue.
Naturally, this is still work in progress, so expect a few glitches. - Jun 13 2005

What you want is not really a merge of KScope into KDevelop, but rather a Cscope module for KDevelop. I will certainly welcome such a project.
Nevertheless, I think there is still a place for KScope as a light-weight, non-intrusive and C-centred environment. - Oct 14 2004

It seems that I didn't read your post to its end before replying...
I'll make it accept exuberant-ctags as well. - Jun 23 2004

Developers Apps by elahav 46 comments

It should accept ctags-exuberant as the executable name (this is a fix introduced into version 0.7.) KScope will now accept any name that begins with "ctags".
Does Gentoo use a different name? If so, let me know, and in the meantime you can just create a link and use it. - Jun 23 2004

What I'm really missing is a password manager that can synchronise its database with a Palm handheld.
I know of GNU-Keyring, and I have already written a KPilot conduit for it. Unfortunately, Keyring seems to be unmaintained and the current version only supports reading from the Palm device.
PwManager seems like a good password manager. Any chance someone will assume the task of writing a Palm version and a KPilot conduit? - Jun 21 2004

1. KScope is for C projects, while Eclipse is mainly for Java. There is a C plugin for Eclipse, but it is rather limited in its capabilities (at least it is for now.)
2. As opposed to Eclipse, KScope is light, projects are minimalistic and easy to handle, and it integrates well into KDE.

The above notes by no means suggest that I have anything against Eclipse. It is just that I don't think it delivers the same capabilities as KScope (for better and for worse.)

I don't understand what Visual Cafe or any other Java tool has to do with KScope. - Jun 15 2004
