I am getting several screens full of errors when I compile. I am on a PII 450Mhz running Mandrake 10.0 Official Power Pack.Compiling gives me 'syntax error' errors - tons of them - not warnings, errors. This is why I need an RPM for Mandrake. It's the only way I can have this style on my machines. Unless the author is willing to compile for me and tell me where to put all the necessary files on my machines. - Jul 01 2004

It's kinda stupid to release a package when you know there is a bug in it. An intelligent, responsible programmer would never do such a thing. When you say "it has a bug", you might as well be saying "here it is, but, don't download it as it won't work because it's not fixed yet and will only pollute your system".What happened to the quality of programmer in recent years? - Jun 30 2004

I love it too! It's beautiful.I look at the comments and whether or not people are having lots of trouble compiling or installing a package. This helps me determine whether or not I want to download and try it myself. I never even pay attention to the voting score of a package , lots of people don't even vote and the voting system is messed up anyway, it needs to be removed from the site. But, this submission is beautiful and I'm not even using Debian. Great work by this author! - Jun 29 2004

This package has bugs in it and does not work. The author has obviously never learned how to test software before releasing it.There is absolutely NO reason a package should be released with bugs in it. - Jun 25 2004

GTK-QT Mandrake 10.1 RPM

GTK1 Themes by ntesa 33 comments

Can you see where is says "Please remove or disable magicdev before using this theme engine..." up there in the description area for this engine? Well, on my Mandrake 10.0 system, magicdev is used to enable the computer to read CD's. Magicdev has nothing at all to do with gtk apps or "theming". I am assuming that this is true for all Mandrake 10.0 systems. This seems to be malicious advice by the author. This engine does not work on Mandrake 10.0 systems. - Jun 23 2004
GTK-QT Mandrake 10.1 RPM

GTK1 Themes by ntesa 33 comments

I want to know how the author got this engine to work on a Mandrake 10.0 system. The author himself said (in a previous comment) that this engine won't work on a Mandrake 10.0 system. If it won't work on a Mandrake 10.0 system, why create an RPM for that specific system. Also, the author suggested uninstalling/disabling magicdev to get this engine to work. I did some investigating and found that magicdev, at least on my Mandrake 10.0 system, is used for letting the machine know whether or not there is a CD in the CD tray and doesn't have anything to do with gtk apps at all.It is a good thing that I never uninstall/disable anything without investigating it first, otherwise, the author's bad advice would have disabled my ability to use CD's on my computer. Why create an RPM of an app for a specific system when that app won't run on that system? Why tell someone to disable their ability to use CD's on their system to try and get them to use your app? What does your app really do? - Jun 23 2004

I did some investigating, in order to possibly try and get this engine to work on my Mandrake 10.0 system, and I found out that magicdev has nothing to do with gtk apps, at least on my machine. Magicdev is used to let the machine know there is a CD in the CD tray, it isn't used for the display of gtk apps at all.Wanna try again? If this engine doesn't work on Mandrake 10.0 systems, how did you get it to work on a Mandrake 10.0 system? And, why even make an RPM for Mandrake 10.0 in the first place? - Jun 23 2004

You should make this graphic in many other resolutions. Please make a 1024 x 768 res for this wallpaper as me and my friends use that res most of all.
It would be a great idea to make a bunch of different resolutions of this pic and package and upload them all as one tar ball. I myself would end up using four different screen res of this pic. This is a great wallpaper and should be included in all distros - IMHO =) - Jun 21 2004
GTK-QT Mandrake 10.1 RPM

You're engine doesn't help the GTK1 or GTK2 apps on my system - They are all equally ugly as hell. Although, it could be because of my computer and not your package. I am glad that you app works for others.

GTK-QT Mandrake 10.1 RPM

GTK1 Themes by ntesa 33 comments

I installed this engine on Mandrake 10.0 Official and it changed something that would not allow me to use my user account the next login (I always logout and log back in immediately after installing ANY software). I logged in and the system just hung with my wallpaper showing, but no kicker or desktop icons or anything that would let me use my computer. I had to CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to kill X and login to my root account and uninstall this engine in order to be able to use the user account that this engine was installed under. This is typical of the "non-standards" problem with Linux. A package will work on some systems but not on other systems - even if they all have the exact same OS installed.I guess the best advice is to use at your own risk. - Jun 20 2004
GTK-QT Mandrake 10.1 RPM

GTK1 Themes by ntesa 33 comments

I installed this RPM and I see absolutely no difference in The GIMP or Gnucash or any other GTK apps.
I am using Mandrake 10.0 Official on a PII 450Mhz with 256Mb RAM.
The reason I refuse to use GTK based apps is because they are ugly as hell and give me a headache just looking at them.
This GTK-QT engine did nothing to help my situation. I guess it works on some systems and not on others :(
I do hope that someday someone can come up with an item like this that does work. I would like to be able to use some of the GTK based apps without my eyes exploding :) - Jun 19 2004

KDE 3.x Window Decorations by sarahb523 4 comments

The errors I got are errors in the C++ code. I am assuming this because the errors state "cannot declare member function", and, "syntax error before "syntax error before `{' token".

There are numers errors of this kind and I will email the konsole output to you.

Thanks. - May 27 2004
LCARSdeco

KDE 3.x Window Decorations by sarahb523 4 comments

Hi, I'm the person who created the LCARS karamba theme and posted it to
kde-look.

Thank you for posting the LCARS stuff on kde-look.
I am trying to make more LCARS stuff to post on kde-look and your posting was
a great help.

However, I tried to open your lcarsdeco kdevelop project in kdevelop and got
a messagebox stating "The specified folder does not exist or was not
readable.". The messagebox doesn't tell me the folder name or where it was
expecting to find this folder. So, I cannot open the kdevelop project.

So, I went ahead and executed a configure and and compiled it with the F8 key
and got the message "*** Exited with status: 2 ***". Is this normal? It
doesn't seem that I will be able to compile in kdevelop.

I switched to konsole and did the following in a clean copy of the source:
When I tried to do a ./configure - in konsole - , which finished successfully,
but I got over 100 errors when I tried to do a "make" - in konsole. So, I
could not compile in konsole either.

I have been trying to learn how to make a KDE windeco for LCARS, but, have
been unsuccessful.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. - May 27 2004

PwManager

Security by michaelbuesch 36 comments

I like PWManager. I can control when and where it accesses my passwords, I can copy the password file to CD so to restore after a clean install, it uses blowfish encryption, no other package on my computer can access my passwords - this is a HUGE plus.
I don't know anything about KWallet, except that I cannot find a way to control which apps access my passwords and when they can have access (how many people actually sit down and read the code before installing an app?), I don't know how to restore passwords after a clean install, I don't know how secure KWallet's encryption algorythm is.

PWManager is much better, IMHO. - May 21 2004

It would be better to categorise your pics and package them into categoties. Then, put up several thumbnails on one page so people can download the package. This would avoid taking up the entire first page of kde-look.org! - May 20 2004
