A lot of people just don't care about that feud and a lot of OSS runs on Windows anyway. You can even get KDE running on Windows. Don't hate the platform, hate the game! ;) - Mar 15 2005

Next window and next/previos window

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by dbojan 2 comments

Yeah, it's a good idea, there's always a need to find a faster way to switch applications (a-la alt+tab) with the mouse... perhaps adding next/prev buttons on the title bar for KDE? - Feb 24 2005

I think it's great, and if you're worried about Mom, there just needs to be a simple "Hide Advanced" preference in KDE control center that lets all KDE apps (including stuff as simple as the system menu) hide more advanced (and potentially dangerous) settings.

This would go a long way to making the KDE desktop less confusing for ma & pa, but accessible for advanced users. - Feb 09 2005
Ink Level Monitor

Karamba & Superkaramba by pakistano 16 comments

This is a great app, Linux needs more helpful end-user applications such as this. Good job :)

A KDE or Gnome applet of the same concept would be very useful too. - Feb 09 2005

How about making the light source dynamic? I.e. you move a window around, and the lighting moves such that the shadows/light are relative to, say, a corner of the desktop, instead of the shading being static like it is now.

Also, if there were an option for adding a bevel so the window title and border stands out more that would be cool (and the bevel could be shaded dynamically as well).

The GL window decorations we've been seeing are quite nice, I can't wait to see the first GL style! - Jan 12 2005

How about requiring you to hold down the CTRL (or some other modifier) button while scrolling, and letting go of the CTRL button activates the selection? Otherwise, how do you determine what program will be activated, when the cursor leaves the title bar? That's not so practical. - Jan 10 2005

I realize perhaps this isn't the best place to suggest KDE changes, hwever a recent article has made me re-evaluate my position on this.

"Public brainstorming" has many advantages and could drive extreme usability enhancement where otherwise nobody would have thought about it.

I realize the desktop is not where everyone feels Linux belongs, but the fact is many people WANT to put Linux on the Desktop, if only it was easier for them. Anything to benefit the flexibility of Linux can only be good.

Not everyone is a programmer, but not every programmer can implement excellent usability features that Desktop users would like. I figure they can each help each other out in a public forum. - Jul 27 2004

I think it's a great idea, KDE really needs an easier way to install skins, keep it up! I hope it turns out really well! - Jul 11 2004

I've copied and pasted the command line exactly as shown with the accents instead of apostrophes:

./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` --disable-debug

I didn't --enable-final, and I did make, but it died with many errors on optionHandler.cpp (too many to list)

make[2]: *** [optionHandler.lo] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/halcyon/Desktop/baghira/baghira-0.4a/style'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/halcyon/Desktop/baghira/baghira-0.4a'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Bug? Or am I doing something wrong? - Jul 08 2004
