KDE Four Live

Various KDE Stuff by javierllorente 51 comments

so, now I checked out the 1.0.66 live CD, I am absolutely pleased about the fact that those show-stopping bad rendering performance seems to have dramatically improved with this version.
in fact, this was the main reason for me, not to use kde4 regularly - not the usual rants about missing features/configurabiltity etc. etc...
So, kudos to the kde dev team, rock on ! - Apr 05 2008

konserve is great - I just had a little annoyance with it with regard to backups on a network, in case the server is not available. So I made a new version to fix this.
anyone interested can find it at - feel free to use it/comment on it.
(and yes, I tried to contact the original author for coordination, but no luck) - Jul 14 2007

finally, logging feature added, great!
I remember having requested this, even proposed to do it myself :)
I must admit, I was just too lazy :-(
and, of course, not sure if I would have succeeded with my limited qt-programming skills.
so, a big thanks to you, Alex! - Jul 20 2006

ok, did so:
~23 sec, 1850 files. - Mar 12 2006

System Software by jaegerschnitzel 61 comments

well, my test-case actually _is_ a mounted nfs-share (via fstab), directly accessed (not with kioslave).
maybe kfind is just ineffective with such a setup ? - Mar 08 2006

> If you have found a more drastical difference of compare speed, please tell me you test setup.

hmm, I just checked again: unison needs 7 sec for scan folders, komparator 130 sec - maybe it is relevant that one folder is an nfs-share ?

> - profiles for recurring tasks

ok, I overlooked this one, thanks :)

> OK, I thought hitting the button twice ("Clear" & "Search") would be fine for users, however, it's no problem to add such a button.

again, didn't realize this, it's perfectly ok.

so, please keep up working on this program - as said, it fills a real gap in kde !

this could really fulfil the need for a kde-program like unison.
however, I would suggest some improvements:

- speed
- doesn't fit to screen (1024x768, kicker left)
- profiles for recurring tasks
- restart/go button

please don't feel offended, I really appreciate your work, but if compared to unison w.rg. the mentioned issues, I hope it is clear ? - Mar 04 2006

towards an internationalisation infrastructure for php web development like kde itself has !
I think this has great potential - think of tighter kbabel integration, more user friendly script actions via kommander etc...
one 'rant' though :) - could you eventually translate the howto on your website in english (using your own tools ;) - also, some basic explanation about what gettext does would be great for n00b's. - Feb 12 2006

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by garyjones32 18 comments

kate's multidocument interface just sucks. but out of some arrogance, the kate folks refuse to have tabs at least as an option. kedit_tabs is just what I've been looking for - a lightweight editor with good kde-integration. well done ! - Jul 24 2005

Text Editors by mikmak 12 comments

finally, this seems to be the editor I've been looking for so long !
as a long time vim user, there was always the lack of a kde-integrated gui-version of that.
and kvim never worked ok for me.
kyzis looks very nice, can be configured to my taste, and, yes, it even has tabs (the lack of these always distracted me from kwrite/kate).
so, thanks alot for this great ap!!! - Feb 18 2005

finally, a cute, lightweight kde text editor with tabs !
have been waiting long for something like this, thanks !
(btw. I wonder why kwrite/kate can't do tabs ???)
the only annoyance I found so far is this butt-ugly 'file-open' dialog
(seems to be pure qt-stuff ?)
where you even have to double-click on directories - aarrghh ;-) - Oct 01 2004

builds/installs just fine here.
nice app - thanks.
anyways, 2 wishes ;-)
- provide an ebuild
- provide a superuser-mode (ask for root pwd) if run as user and try to emerge something - Jul 25 2004

shame on me - could have done this before (RTFM ;-) -
anyways, now I get this here lateron:
kexidatasourcewizard.cpp: In member function `void
kexidatasourcewizard.cpp:76: invalid use of undefined type `struct
kexidatasourcewizard.h:36: forward declaration of `struct KexiDB::FieldList' - May 05 2004

sorry, I accidentally hit the 'reload'
button in my browser, then couldn't delete the double posts :-(
on topic:
I use gcc 3.2.3, gentoo 1.4
thanks - May 04 2004

I'm getting this:
/usr/qt/3/include/qptrlist.h: In member function `void
QPtrList::deleteItem(void*) [with type = KexiPart::DataSource]':
/usr/qt/3/include/qvaluevector.h:130: instantiated from here
/usr/qt/3/include/qptrlist.h:150: invalid use of undefined type `struct
kexipartmanager.h:44: forward declaration of `struct KexiPart::DataSource'
make[4]: *** [kexipartmanager.lo] Error 1

- looks to me like a qt issue ?
(using qt 3.3.0 here, kde 3.2.2) - May 04 2004

I wasn't aware at all of the recent name change, as I've been using
the cvs version from kdenonbeta
all the time, and I can only say,
this app is really amazing - the only thing I'm missing right now is
record movies.
thanks for this great program ! - Apr 04 2004

cute seems nice - especially with
several files in tabbed view ;-)
what bothers me, are the tiny, nearly unreadable fonts - I found no way to change this.
(qt-config doesn't help either) - Mar 07 2004

Graphic Apps by clarence 40 comments

finally, a real graphics editing/drawing program for kde (and NOT just another of the zillion image viewers)!
This is by far the best kde-graphics app I know of.
at this stage, I'm already able to do most of my graphics editing for the web
with kolourpaint, thus reducing the need for gimp substantially
(what about rename it to 'kimp' ;-)
