Plasma 4 Extensions by Emdek 570 comments

I added that line, on version .2, but I still get the flickering.

BTW, I get no flickering if I cursor over the plasmoid on the original very small size it comes on under 0.2, but will start getting flickering once I resize it, even if I make it small again.

Also, is anyone out there getting thumbnails as opposed to tooltips?

Many thanks,

Jaime

If I'm reading the documentation at http://doc.trolltech.com/4.0/qt4-arthur.html#widget-double-buffering right, QT4 enables double buffering by default, and setting Qt::WA_PaintOnScreen actually disables it. So, it sounds like you actually do have double buffering on. I'm not surprised that my original idea was off-base.

Thanks,

Since I've never done any programming in QT, anything I could say is close to a guess. But I'm surprised to hear that disabling double buffering increases the performance. Typically one would use double buffering to _increase_ performance.

I suppose you could enable double buffering back and test it, to see what happens. If you do, I'll be glad to get a copy of that modification from you, and test in on my hardware again.

Best,

Jaime

not sure how to upload a file to this board, but I put a copy of the file at http://helios.hampshire.edu/jdavila/flicker.ogg

My CPU and graphics card are reported as:

CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz
GPU: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

Thanks again,

I'm certain that you know a lot more about graphics than I, but I wonder if you are using double buffering for drawing graphics? That is, are you drawing elements directly to the screen, or are you drawing elements to a buffer, and then sending all of the buffer to the screen once it's drawn?

Thanks again,

Looks great. I'll mention a couple of things that I would love to see, which would make this immediately my default task manager.

- when I move the mouse over the plasmoid, I get a brief flickering each time, a white rectangle that covers the whole plasmoid, as if the graphic is being erased and on its way to being redrawn. Any way that can be fixed?

- I have the option "Use thumbnails instead of icon whenever possible" selected, but I don't get any thumbnails. Is that normal with this release?

- Any way to make it so that if I click on a non-minimized task, it minimizes is back to the taskbar?

Thanks for the great work,

Jaime

Good job! This has become my new theme. Looks great (although I changed the icons to jin3's and the window borders to polycarbonate). - Nov 10 2006
