This app is cool. Compiled and installed correctly the first time! It is easy to use and I have added a button for it in kicker. I am giving this app 10 out of 10 penguins!!! Good job!!! - Apr 09 2005
Metabar

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by FJR 249 comments

Well, it seems that with all the problems that metabar is having and causing, and a complete lack of documentation or developer support, this app is definitely not ready for public consumption. This app should be pulled from the public domain until such a time as the developer can do extensive testing. This is an example of the crappy software, released after very little testing, that permeates the Linux OS and is part of the reason that Windows users are still using Windows. Bad app.. bad programmer. - Apr 09 2005
Metabar

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by FJR 249 comments

I tried to compile this on an AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 512Mb ram, 160Gb hd running Fedora Core 3 (full install) and I got the following errors:

metabar.cpp' || echo './'`metabar.cpp
metabar.cpp:43: error: visibility arg must be one of "default", "hidden", "protected" or "internal"
metabar.cpp:59: error: visibility arg must be one of "default", "hidden", "protected" or "internal"
make[2]: *** [metabar.lo] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/ianmac/Documents/downloads/metabar/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/ianmac/Documents/downloads/metabar'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Anyway to fix this so I can use metabar? - Apr 06 2005

The RPM does not work on my FC3 (full install) system. How was the RPM built? With "rpmbuild -ba " ? - Apr 05 2005

System Software by SteffenAC 61 comments

Compiling completed without warnings or errors and the app runs fine. So, the problem was indeed with the RPM. Did you use rpmbuild -ba to build the rpm?

I am using FC3 (full install, abd fully updated) on an AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 512Mb ram, 160Gb HD. I build lots of RPM's and I have never had anyone inform me of a problem with any of my rpm's. - Apr 05 2005

Your RPM doesn't work on my FC3 system. I guess I'll compile. - Apr 05 2005

You really need to add a description of what the app does and add a screenshot. I, for one, will not even bother with downloading and unpacking an app that doesn't have a screenshot and description because the lack of those two important items says something about the author of the app.
Is the author too lazy to include these items means the app probably won't work or will damage my system because of sloppy coding practices?
Is this even a legitimate app, or a rootkit/trojan/virus in disguise? - Apr 02 2005

Please also post a copy of the license that says you are allowed to release this as GPL. You should have obtained permission from the owner. You do realise that you are putting kde-look in jeopardy by releasing copyrighted material? I am sure we all know who the real owner is, and that they have the money and clout to shut kde-look down for copyright infringement. - Apr 01 2005

How about a full size screen shot?
How about a version in 1280x1024, since 800x600 wallpapers don't scale well to my res. - Apr 01 2005

Office Apps by vladsv 20 comments

You should probably change the name of this app. The name "Kniga" brings up thoughts of a racial slur and I'd bet that lots of people who download are Americans who are trying to rid America of racism. - Apr 01 2005

That probably also says that your code isn't very good. I won't try this app. - Apr 01 2005

Try to fix it by yourself
If you aren't sure if it will cause problems, you shouldn't release it. Most of the people who download from this site probably wouldn't know how to "fix it themselves". - Apr 01 2005

Which encryption algorythm does this app use? Saying that this app produces data that is encrypted doesn't necessarily make it secure. DES is an encryption algorythm and was relied upon by the US gov't for a long time. But DES has been broken, and in my opinion, DES is useless.

Does this app use Blowfish, IDEA, CAST or other? Is the encryption algorythm patented or unencumbered? Which algorythm is utilized and with how many bits? Can you post a URL to the homepage of this app or for more information as to the type and security of the encryption algorythm? - Mar 08 2005
