HI. I'm not sure because I haven't yet been able to play with it on kde 3.4. If you could send me a log of the install activity, I could try and look into it for you. Does anyone else have this problem with kde 3.4? - Jun 12 2005
It seems like that's fine. I don't speak that language, but I don't see any errors. You need to su to root and then do make install.

Hey guys, let me know what you think of the new menu bar item style (File, Edit, View.. etc.). Is it better or worse than the old style and what suggestions do you have?

-- kM - May 07 2005
As of now, I've disabled options because they were causing problems (aka crashes) and I wanted to push out this release ASAP. (I know, bad developer style...I'm a horrible, horrible person) Hopefully, they will be back soon and better than before.

Yay! - May 05 2005
Actually, tabs were one of the few things I didn't touch for this release. Right now I am working on the settings, so I'll see what I can do for making that into a setting.

Thanks for making this TGZ. I noticed you are using the description/changelog for Krisp 0.1 here. You should change it to the description/changelog from Krisp 0.2.

This is something I have yet to look into. I'm not yet running 3.4 myself, so I haven't been able to play with it.

Thanks for the complements.

p.s. I noticed you posted a Krisp TGZ for slackware and have it listed for KDE 3.4. Does that mean you got it working with 3.4? - May 05 2005
Thanks, I'll look into this. I haven't had a chance to play with it on 3.4 yet.

You will not find Krisp under themes as it it a widget style. After installing it, it should appear in the 'style' dialog in the 'widget style' drop-down list.

Enjoy.

No. To install just do the normal ./configure; make; make install - Dec 09 2004
Thanks for your comments!

"i would prefer the gradient-style for buttons, scrollbars.. like current plastik-style."

In future versions, I see this becoming a configurable option.

"also the Popup-Menu in Lipstik...looks more _nice_"

Indeed. I was going for a unified theme here where everything takes on the same feel. I find that user interfaces become surprisingly enjoyable to use when everything is consistent and has the same feel. I am actually in the process of expanding on this in future versions. As for the specific menu style that you like, it would be easy to make this style into an option.

"also white arrows on pulldown-menus...looks also very _good_"

Agreed. In Krisp (and I believe in PlastikQ as well) this is based on the text highlight color that you have configured in the Control Center. Again, this is for consistency. White arrows simply require a white text highlight color.

"the Hover-effect when the mouse-pointer is moved over toolbar-buttons in current plastik-style is also nice"

Krisp uses the same style for this.

So to recap, I've got a lot of great ideas (I think) for where I want to go with the Krisp style. Hopefully I should be making another release before long, so stay tuned! Thanks for your comments!!

You must mean on the K menu... I'm not sure I have control over this. I'll try to look into it.

Thanks

I'm not sure I understand... - Dec 01 2004
For those of you who don't know. There is a chance that Control Center will crash upon applying Krisp (and some other styles?). Not to worry, this is completely harmless!!! It's just an annoyance. The style will still be applied (restart kde to fully apply it).

I'm trying to track this down. Anyone with info on this, please make a post. I've noticed that so far on the computers I've tested as well as from the reports I've gotten, it could be confined to Slack-10/kde-3.3.1

Thanks
-kM - Dec 01 2004
Its actually my own hybrid of Nuvola and Zenith...

-kM - Dec 01 2004
Well, Krisp isn't meant to be a Lipstik mod: it's meant as a whole new style. See the above post for a more detailed response...

I think legalos has the right idea here. Maybe after Krisp becomes more mature i'll look into combining the three with options to choose different widget styles. Right now, i've just begun and I just wanted to get Krisp out there and get some feedback.

Anway, I hope you enjoy what I've got done so far and keep your eyes opened for the next version.

-kM - Dec 01 2004
I will definately look into this crash problem, but I remember having the same problem with other styles as well. Interestingly, I don't recall my Control Center crashing recently. Could anyone experiencing this crash please post their kde version.

Im sorry about Krisp replacing your Lipstik style. I guess it was irresponsible of me to not make it completely obvious that this happens with the current version.

Hopefully this will be a non issue very soon!

-kM - Dec 01 2004
I did not write this to be a modification to lipstiK, but a completely new style, which simply incorporates some of the aspects of lipstik and plastikq. If I were to provide patches against lipstik, it would also follow that I would have to apply patches against PlastikQ. What I did was started with Lipstik as my base code, added some PlastikQ code, and then did modifications to come up with the new style (the most obvious of which is the menu widgets).

Please note that Krisp will NOT overwrite Lipstik in the future. This is simply because I am at a 0.1 (read beta) release, and I have not had time to make the huge amounts of changes necessary. I just liked what I had so much that I wanted to share it with others and see if I could get some feedback.

-kM - Dec 01 2004
Lipstik and PlasticQ ARE combined in this style, so we are at least part of the way there!

-kM - Dec 01 2004
Well, this is version 0.1... This is something I'm planning on doing. It's a lot more work than you think to change the names of classes, functions, function calls, files, etc. In other words, this takes time.

-kM - Nov 30 2004
Thats a good idea. However, this is my first style and I'm not yet familiar enough with the code. This is something I'll look into for the future.

-kM - Nov 30 2004
"My control panel also crashes when I try to use your theme on Slack 10."

Note that while the Control Center crashes when you apply this theme (as well as others), no harm is done and you can still apply and use the theme. Bascally, it's just an annoyance.

-kM - Nov 30 2004
Yes, I actually put a warning about that in the BUGS file. I guess I should have made it more obvious.

As for the crashing thing, this is not limited to Krisp: I've seen it for other style sets as well. I think it might be a kde bug.

I like this. I am currently working on a lot of modifications to Krisp as well as 3.4 compatibility. I'd like to try and implement some of the ideas you've presented here. As for the background thing, I will look into that, but I suspect it's more difficult to implement.

Hi. After installing this I'm having problems with drawing the rubber band thing. It doesn't appear translucent and it doesn't go away after the mouse up event. How can I fix these problems so that it works properly?

Thanks. - Nov 09 2004

This is really cool, but the icons look too large for me. Is it possible to make them smaller? Better yet, is it possible to use the default firefox 0.9 icons instead?

Nice work.

Thanks

Morpheus actually says "Remmeber...all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more." (rather than Nothing else.)
I have made a corrected bmp which can be found at http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/kmeehl/handy_128.bmp

Secondly, the color settings will work only on lilo 22.5.8 and up, so anyone running 22.5.7 will have to upgrade.

Finally, cool idea for a boot image. I likie. =)

I think this problem could be easily solved by having this system slide up or out from the bottom or side. Or better yet, have it slide out from the corner, that way, the user isn't accidentally activating it all day long while trying to get work done (boy I hate that). Anyway, I think this is a great idea and I'd like to look into implementing something like this.

I've installed kroller, but for some reason when i run it, i see nothing. At first, i thought that nothing was happening, so I changed BOTTOMBAR to true. now what i see is that space is provided for the bar, but there are no icons, and no bar. There's no response from clicking either. Any ideas?

Thanks. - May 27 2003

I've installed as outlined above, but I have no icons. If I pick a spot that seems about right and click on it, the apps open, it just shows nothing. What gives? - Apr 29 2003
