Plasma 4 Extensions by farbing 6 comments

I've voted up for it, but you really should consider repackaging it - what you've done is known as 'tar-bomb'. I'll explain - i have a folder Public, where allmy downloaded and self-compiled stuff resides in it's own dir. And every single package, when i use 'tar xvf <packagename>.tar.bz2' creates it''s own directory and extracts it's files into it. Your package extracted all it's elements into the Public. So, not only had i to clean my Public directory from that trash, but also had to create a dir manually, copy your package and "explode" it there.
In other words, instead of creating your package with 'tar cjf microtrends-0.1.tar.bz2 microtrends/' and you'll be fine.
And yeah, i'm working on a plasmoid that uses qjson too, and should have very similar appearance. So far i had difficulties with the appearance (the 'backend' seem to work fine), so i wanted to have a look at the sources o your plasmoid. Maybe i'll use some ideas :) - Aug 26 2009

Hi :)

Do they really like plasmoids? or am i missing something?
I saw that in Qt Creator there're some clasees that start with 'K' - KServer - wouldn't they interfere with existing KDE framework?
And yeah, it's cool that you've made them, but wouldn't you like to join the Plasma team better? Or at least help KDE on Windows developers with porting Plasma? That'd help them a lot. - Jun 18 2009

Hi :)
I'm from KDE on Windows team. I tried to compile kflickr on windows and... succeeded! :) Only issue was the missing linux/limits.h. I just commented that out, though

I know, it sounds quite annoying, but is there any hope that we'll get the plasmoid from it? :)
It'd be nice. And it'd be for both KDE3 and KDE4 users (providing that you'll be still updating/supporting your this kicker applet) :) - Dec 11 2008

So, what have you changed so far? Clocks? They look nice, i should admit - simple and clean.
The panel seems to be somewhat Vistaish (or am i too paranoid?). Just at the beginning of a new KDE4 era we don't really need those yet-another-Vista/Mac-clone-theme. Really, respect the community. Of course, you're free to do them, and free to cone things, but it's not really good. It's time to invent, not to copy.
But for the start - nice beginning. Wish you more downloads and pluses ;-) - Dec 06 2008

Heh, that'd be cool :)
though, the text-to-speech engines would be required :)
And this thingie (as plasmoid too) could be even configured to use RSS feed's avatar if there's no avatar distributed with it :P Though, the mouth line would be somewhat really tricky to implemet (unless, again, cusomizable by user) - Oct 23 2008

Oh it's not me! =)
I mean, i was sure i posted this content on kde-look.org but as far as i understood some subsections of content on all the sites affilitated to openDesktop.org (see the blue logo on the very top left of the page) are using the same content. Thus KDE-look Clipart section is similar (identical?) to the one on GNOME-look.
So, as i said - it's not me :) - Oct 06 2008

Found the reason - if you compiled and installed the stuff with that
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr
in Kubuntu 8.04 then it won't work - the thing is KDE4 is installed into /usr/lib/kde4 thus everything kde related should be installed there. So, just instead of ...PREFIX=/usr it should be ...PREFIX=/usr/lib/kde4
The system settings control module will appear under advanced tab. But i haven't found any plasmoid for it. i'll search better for it, though... - Sep 30 2008

Wel, you see, ff addons are another type of software. They are part of ff (or konqi, if you're lucky enough ;) ) and should be held in the RAM with the browser even if you don't need them. And this app is a standalone one. It's crossplatform one (not checked that yet) and - hey! - it contains two versions of that program - opensource one, and full one. Though opensource version is not licensed under GPL.
Well, it's his freedom to choose the license for his products, and it's our freedom to chose products that fit our needs most. - Jun 25 2008

Just visit any theming portal for windows - i know, it's 'enemy territory', but just get some ideas! try to copy come of those themes - if you really can't think out anything new. - Jun 19 2008

And by the way - no blur occurs for me in Mandriva 2008 with Compiz-Fusion until you set the "Alpha Blur" option in the Blur windows screen of CCSM. And it's better to use Gaussian blur instead of "4x Bilinear", that stands by default. Gaussian blur has some tweakable options right there, int the same "Blur windows" screen.
Thank you again =) - Mar 17 2008

i unzipped the contents of the archive to a directory. No non-latin chars int the path. chmod a+x for all .py scripts in the directory. Installed python and pygame (it installs itself into /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/pygame). I even installed pygame1.7-devel packagee just to be sure i got all i need. But the only thing i get, when i start ./ksplasher.py is crossfire-like cursor and this:

./ksplasher.py: line 2: from: command not found
./ksplasher.py: line 3: from: command not found
./ksplasher.py: line 4: from: command not found
: command not founde 6:
./ksplasher.py: line 36: syntax error near unexpected token `('
'/ksplasher.py: line 36: `lab=[('','','',''),('','','',''),('','','','')]

in my konsole output. And yeah, after installing all those py-things i've run the ldconfig. Just to be sure of everything.
Any suggestions?

I wanted you to put the source file in archive. I didn't wan't you to create a rasterized image of your vector work, i can do it myself =)
I mean - the source file is rather big and i want the SOURCE. The only way to make it smaller - just tar it and then gzip or bzip it. I really appreciate your work i i didn't want to be offensive. Just didn't want to download the "Full size". - Jan 18 2008

Why you guys always upload a pure source file instead of tar.gz or tar.bz2? It would add another plus to your great work. It's not only you, but also others who don't archive the source files. Please, make an archive. - Jan 18 2008
The last 2.2.1 version has some bug that prevent's it from creating normal themes. I'm using the old way e.g.
$ sd2xc-2.2.1.pl --name theme_name
inside the directory of unzipped CurXP theme. It creates some strange theme, that has only "Wait" animation in the preview in KDE. And it would be more correct to put in the description not "created with sd2xc", but ADD "Converted with sd2xc" to the description text of the CursorXP theme. - Jan 12 2008

Thanx for your comment.
About s-shot - fixed that. Thanks. Actually i was too lazy to do that, but since someone asked - here you are. The "screenshot" contains most of animation cycles, except for the "hand" cursor animation, which is a bit longer and inconvinient to put alongside with others. I'm constatntly getting this problem:
Can't locate Image/Magick.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/bin/sd2xc-2.1.pl line 63.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/sd2xc-2.1.pl line 63.

So, i've found out, that my Image.pm located not in the /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i386-linux, but in /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i386-linux-mutli-thread.
So, i've made sym-links to the first and now i'm getting this:
Can't locate loadable object for module Image::Magick in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/bin/sd2xc-2.1.pl line 63
Compilation failed in require at /usr/bin/sd2xc-2.1.pl line 63.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/sd2xc-2.1.pl line 63.
and the sd2xc process begins to consume the memory and cpu resources. I know, it has something to do with @NIC variable, but how can i set it up or change it to help sd2xc find the Image/Magick.pm without making any sym-links?
I'm running Mandriva 2008, thus installed ImageMagick from RPMs. And yeah, i'm not sure i've got the proper installation of ImageMagick-perl package, because i couldn't find any for my distro. - Dec 27 2007

Karamba & Superkaramba by sangrehirviendo 24 comments

weird thing, indeed... i've read the man page for convert and it says that syntax is:
convert input.file [options] output.file
So, I've tried it this way:
[kraplax@localhost ~]$ convert ./Slax_blue.jpg -resize 50% ./Slax_blue1.jpg
and it worked! It just contracted my image and saved it under another name. And i've also opened your theme file and have found out, that everywhere in your scripts you use it something like:
convert [options] some.file another.file
see the difference? I wonder if it depends on IM's version that it's syntax varies so much, but i suppose that's the root of the problem. Btw, what version are you using?
And how could i launch skaramba theme from konsole? just give me an exaple and i could tell you what it says.
Thanx in advance =) - Dec 17 2007

Well, as i've found out - i do have convert utility, but it doesn't work =(
[kraplax@localhost ~]$ convert -resize 50% ./Slax_blue.jpg
convert: missing an image filename `./Slax_blue.jpg'
I've also tried to quote the filename with ' and " but id didn't help.
Also, as it turned out imginfo utility (which i suppose to the part of ImageMagick alongside with that convert one) is also unusable for png and gif files. At least with .jpg it works fine - shows some stats...
What am i to do further to make it work? - Dec 17 2007
