excellent. The real solution was to kill plasma [logout then log in works]. I had actually made similar changes but had seen no effect, didn't dawn on me until your comment that it wasn't loading the new version.

Changes I made may be more generally applicable.
1) change 146 to:
float width, height, shadow, scale, fontScale, colWidth;
2) add 157
fontScale = scale / 2.0f;
3) change font.setPointSize(... * scale); to
font.setPointSize(... * fontScale);

@ruans. I think this is because we all have 16:10 or 16:9 displays. Your calculation is based on the width which is considerably larger than the width of a 4:3 screen. So we get a much bigger value. Don't know if you can add a check for this condition and add it to the codeline. e.g base the calculation on the height not width.

Hope this helps

Me too! Font won't fit in window. Running openSUSE 11.0, KDE 4.1, resolution 1900x1200 but dual screen second is 1400x900. Have tried hacking the source changing all the setPointSize() to half the actual values and it made not the slightest bit of difference.

Shame, the screen shots look really good. - Dec 06 2008
