Small, simple, easy-to-use database app (well, very near to a database), that in certain respects performs like the big boys.

It can manage virtually ANY collection - people, too.

Lipstik for Mandrake

KDE 3.5 Themes by pivarac 11 comments

It seems to install fine on Mandrake 10.0 (KDE 3.2), but it does not show up in the "style" area in "Look 'n Feel", so I can't select it. Seems odd.

Could you offer any help?

In any case, it's a great style, and I'm sure people appreciate that it's been packaged as an RPM, too. - Dec 15 2004

KDE 3.5 Themes by PaT 347 comments

THis theme is beautiful, a really slick look. BUT . . . I'm running KDE 3.2, on Mandrake 10.0. So I can't get it to install, either from source or from that Mandrake RPM found here on Kde-look. It doesn't show up in the "styles" area.

In nay case, will it work on KDE 3.2, or only KDE 3.3 and upward?

I'd love for this to work on KDE 3.2, it's a really sweet little style. - Dec 15 2004

Certainly a fresh idea. I like it. Woofer in an ice cube. Original, very original. - Dec 09 2004
i-k Amarok icon

My reasons for liking this one:

1.) Simplicity. A clean, usable style. Not too busy. Yes, the speaker is overused, but so what? This is one of the few speakers that are actually pretty.

2.) Colour choice. Nice and bright, and the icon remains sharp and clean at all sizes.

This one's a winner. - Dec 09 2004
kletterwizard

It's time I add my comment, and I must ay, this little application is a joy to use. Easy, clear, and produces a great-looking letter.

There are a few formatting issues regarding American/Canadian letter standards that I've made known to the author, but they are not bugs, just a small wishlist.

Another request: Can we also have the ability to save letters in different formats (kWord, etc.)? Or at least, to save letters in whatever "Kletterwizard" format? I know it's Latex, but can this be done?

All in all, great program, and well worth the download. - Dec 08 2004

OpenOffice.org Writer

Office Apps by kendy 34 comments

No need to spend time and resources trying to make OpenOffice look like KDE, etc.

Focus on kOffice. A "made-for-Linux" suite that is far more worthy of our attention. It is already KDE-aware, fully integrated. - Oct 25 2004

Hehe . . I'm a newbie, too, but I've learned a helluva lot since I dumped XP and insalled Linux back in May. I'm very big on desktop customization, and I've basically mastered WinXP customization, even though I didn't like XP to begin with. Have a look at some of my screenshots here on Kde-look.

I'm on AIM (using Kopete), and my nickname is: Praetorian602.

Take care. - Oct 21 2004

I love the look!

Now, can you make one for other distros? I know you're probably a huge SUSE fan, but if you have the time, can you make one for Mandrake? Perhaps Gentoo?

Very clean, simple, and incredibly usable.

Nice work. - Oct 21 2004

Ok, I just made it an executable and it began the arkollon process.

BUT, I got this error:

checking for lt_dlopen in -lltdl... no
* configure: error:
* *** Couldn't find ltdl library. If it is installed in a non-standard
* *** location, please supply --with-ltdl=DIR on the configure command line,
* *** where `DIR' is the prefix where ltdl is installed (such as /usr,

Where can I get ltdl? I don't seem to haev it. I'm running Madnrake10. - Oct 18 2004

Here it is. Nuvola 1.0, official release. Wonderful work. Your dedication amazes me. You even did over the tray icons! They look beautiful . . .kopete, kmail, klipper, all of them!

I think your icons will continue to spend alot of time at the top of the kde-look "highest rated" list.

Thank you for your hard work. - Oct 15 2004

KOffice (KWord)

Office Apps by malagasy 20 comments

This is a damn good wordprocessor, with a very slick interface that integrates perfectly with KDE. Sure, it's missing afew advanced features, but I'm confident they'll eventually find their way in there. In fact, the whole kOffice suite is wonderful, and amazingly eay to use. It handles large documents superbly (hundreds of pages), and is quite fast. thesaurus integration is sweet, and it far outclasses what OpenOffice.org offers.

kWord, along with the rest of kOffice needs to be developed to reach its fullest potential. It's well on the way. I use it for everything, and have not encountered a single bug. A few minor inconveniences are present, but they're easily wored around.

Congrats to the kOffice team for their dedication and hard work! - Sep 19 2004

BasKet Note Pads

Basket is excellent. I finally got it working. The folders in which you need to copy the basketui.rc file into are hidden, so you'll need to select "show hidden files" from the konqueror "view" menu.

A few things:

1.) As a way to clear up the EXISTING clutter on your desktop, basket is at its current stage, useless. BUT . . .

2.) As a way to put files somewhere (right from the Web) INSTEAD of just vomiting them on your desktop, basket is God's Gift. ;-) Just toss them in the basket, and your clutter stays out of the way until you feel like filing things way. Brilliant.

Now for my idea: I notice that when active, basket is represented by a window that reminds me of konqueror. It's great, but it looks pretty big and takes up alot of space. So, why not have an option where basket can reside as an icon on your desktop into which you can drag and drop things, and when you want to view them, you can click on the icon to "reveal" the basket contents? Or, maybe have the system tray icon accept drag and drop files? It would just make navigating a bit easier. Sometimes basket gets stuck behind browser windows and I have to do some rearranging.

Otherwise, basket is a BRILLIANT little app!! Thanks for the hard work! - Aug 30 2004

This is incredible. It will certainly have a HUGE impact on the way we skin Linux . . . if it works, and skins a fair amount of the desktop elements.

Wow. Please finish this. - Aug 26 2004

Why is it that every time I drop a file into the basket, it only seems to copy a link of that file, and not the whole file itself? I want to get rid of desktop clutter, so I put those files in the basket, but they also remain on the desktop. So, I throw those desktop files out, but I cannot access them from the basket.

I'm using version 0.4, stable RPM for Mandrake 10.

Would you please skin the bookmarks toolbar (the one on the side) completely - I mean with the heart icons. Right now they're just squares. Could you also skin the tabs toolbar?

Great work so far! Thanks for the theme. - Aug 14 2004
Nuvola - complete suite

KDE Plasma Screenshots by LTD602 3 comments

Hehe . .everyone's saying I should use the Nuvola PlastikFox! Maybe I will. It's just that I have my bookmarks sidebar open all the time in the browser, and the bookmarks are all skinned properly, so it looks nicer. On the other hand, the PlastikFox Nuvola IS more consistent with the RC1 build.

I'll change for a few days, see how it fits. ;-)

Thanks for the nice comment, I'm glad you like the shot. - Aug 14 2004

Icon Sub-Sets by dave 245 comments

Can it get any better than this? ;-)

You know how I feel about your work . . . I left a message on your site, so there's no need to repeat it here. One thing: the up/down/back butons looked a bit better before, but that's not a big deal. Especially in light of all the new applciation icons and the new action icons. The home folder icon looks amazing, thanks to the new detail on the roof. I like the fact that the little shortcut marks on icons are now arrows instead of just dots.

Alot of nice touches here, and some cool improvements. DEFINITELY worth the download. Nothing beats Nuvola.

By the way, nuka's new Firefox Nuvola theme goes beautifully with this set. - Aug 06 2004

1.) RAR is free. Whatever it says on the download page, I've been using it for months to unRAR files.

2.) Instead of bitching about it, why not ask the guy nicely to repackage it?
