A little hint:
In order to make the yellow part look more realistic, you should add a little noise spread.
Sorry i don't know how it is called in english gimp menus and my locale can't be changed so easily. - May 15 2006
It remebers me to my beginning with linux - fvwm or fvwm2 with icons like yours...
It was so nice to leave that ugly windows 98 folder (and other) icons
behind.I can remember the nice package icons of the Redhat rpm manager :)
Today everything is so 100% designed and almost blue - more like windows. So the good old icons and CDE style is refreshingly different. It gives the good feel to have something special - a real "expensive" unix workstation... :)
I hope we all can rediscover the beauty of the good old days... - Mar 07 2006

Can you remember it?
When you switched off the very old tv sets, they faded out slowly and and last you could see a glowing spot in the middle (some color tv sets showed this spot in every color).
That would be new and more 'action' as the Xp effect :) - Jan 03 2005

It fits perfectly to a new fresh kde 4.
A clean and beautiful look without any
similarities to windows.
Wow !
Please keep on!
And Merry Christmas :) - Dec 25 2004

Your work is very artful and the colors you have choosen are something new and fresh.
To the ones who rated it down:
Why? Give him your reason(s)!
That would be fair.
Good work senshi :) - Dec 20 2004

In IE you can't choose your search enging (am i right?).
If you accidently hit the enter button without a protocol in front (ftp://,http://) it gives you an error message which is more annoying than a search with your favorite search engine.
Only my opinion.
But in general an improvement would be to loose that extra (space robbing) search bar. - Nov 16 2004

Personally i never used the extra searchbar because i use gg: and so on, since it is there.
But what happens quite often to me is, that:
I type (or paste) something in, and if i forgot to type gg: or anything else in front of the term, i get an error message.
Much better would be your idea.It would "centralize" the work with search terms and web locations.
I could paste something in and only hit enter. That could use one default search engine like google or any else.Your
arrow gives all choices for other than the default.
Good idea! - Nov 16 2004

Did you try some of the settings from Kcontrolcenter ?
Look 'n Feel->Fonts->Subpixel hinting

Why don't you use font antialiasing for the desktop icons?
Ziggy Zaggy fonts look terrible. They make your screenshot look like something from the past not the future. - Nov 02 2004

Now the visual effect of having a 3D Desktop
is very much improved.
First i didn't realized a big difference. That must have to do that i didn't restart X after playing around with some xcompmgr values
on my own. That playing must have screwed something in memory so that i really noticed it now.
Very cool !
Thanks. - Sep 13 2004

For this you have to know that these keys are called 'accelerator keys'
Here is the bug:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88903
Try to change your kde style from keramik to another. If you can't do it via kcontrol, use an editor and change this line in .kde/share/config/widgetStyle=xxxx
you could enter widgetStyle=plastik
I hope this helps you ... - Sep 13 2004

RenderAccel brings a lot but resizing
is a pain.
But we have to see the future:
All great new features in kde, the kernel or anything else under linux got big improvements after a year or so. I mean after that time most things are nearly perfect then.
With Xorgs speed i think we can expect drop shadows become much better in a few months (half a year).
At this time we can be glad what we have: Nicer and bigger shadows as Windows :) - Sep 12 2004

Sure shadows in hardware is the future.I hope that it will soon improve in terms of speed, stability and visual quality.
It would be good if the speed of xcomposite on various graphics adapters can be the same of the nvidia ones.
I put my Matrox away and now a Nvidia is in my pc.As soon as speed of the Matrox (xcomposite) is on par with the Nvidia i will swap them again.
What i notice all the time:
Nvidia drivers sucks! Although this is xorgs first stable release i didn't have one crash with the Matrox but countless crashes with the Nvidia :(
I don't think this has to do with xorg because i had a lot of hard lockups with Nvidia cards in the past with Xfree. - Sep 12 2004

There it seems that the light source would be from top so that there is no shadow on the window decoration.
The biggest improvement would be the different layers so the direction is an aspect of personal preferrence. - Sep 12 2004

Btw:
Thanks a lot for Baghira !
We all know that Mosfet is a talented coder and that he laid the
foundation-stone (in some way) for Baghira. But what you did with his Liquid is overwhelming !
Baghira has nothing to do with Liquid anymore. When Mosfet is a genius, then what are you Thomas ? You are a c++ wizard of the highest levels. There is no border that you can't break.
Thanks a lot to Thomas - a real mastermind of c++ coding !
Yes also a lot of kudos go to all the other Linux, KDE coders but i wanted to thank especially Thomas today. - Sep 12 2004
Kompose is very useful.I had to spend a lot of time to find my spread programs all over the virtual desktops before kompose.
Speed (v.0.4.2) is so good now that it is usable.
Thanks a lot ! - Sep 01 2004

Then i could provide the kdebase rpm with shadows for SuSE 9.0
Yesterday i patched SuSE kdebase src package and tried to build a rpm with
rpmbuild -v -ba ...
After some unsuccessful attempts to build it (all because rpmbuild missed something), i
only did an make in the (from rpmbuild) unpacked sources. It resumed and now i have my shadows here :)
After that i did 3 more attempts to build the rpm i ask for help.
I don't want to restart the rpmbuild with -ba because then it deletes kdebase and starts from zero :(
With my pc that takes some hours.
How can i resume an unsuccessful rpmbuild ?
I ask only for othe SuSE user because for me the shadows here work so i don't need the rpm anymore ... - Feb 07 2004

My question. I see you use a round window decoration with perfect shadows even around the bottom corners. In earlier versions of some drop shadow patches you saw an ugly cross in the bottom corners.
You mentioned all what you used to make this shot. Did you use any shadow patches, or is that what we can expect from kde 3.2 cvs now ? Perfect macos like shadows for windows and shadowed
text for desktop icons out of the box ?
Please tell me.
Thanks in advance,

What i find not so nice is the area around minimized tasks in your bar. The "milky" glas style for tasks is a good thing but not for the area around them.

have the situation that i install and configure new linux users kde. I take as much as possible of my own kde configuration files/themes/schemes with me in order to shorten the time i need to do this. The fonts are something i have to setup every time so a font scheme would be a much needed addon for kde :)
Please keep on working on it ! - May 24 2003
