Read the prerequisites - you need to install rsvg-convert. It should normally be in a package svg-bin or something similar. If you can't find it tell me what distro your using and I can help you further. - Mar 25 2007

I'm not sure what you mean, but simply unchecking an item on the second screen will uninstall it. Worse comes to worse, tango-generator creates a folder or file with extension .bak containing a backup of everything it's touched. If you've some how deleted that, reinstalling the app using your distro's tools will fix it.

The previous version of the generator - which I discontinued - didn't install gaim icons or anything of the like. - Mar 24 2007

I'm not sure - this may be something with older versions of synaptic that I'll need to look into. I've only tested with ubuntu 7.04 (feisty pre-release).

Just to clarify, does liferea work for you now? Judging from that output, you've got to pixmap dirs whereas you should only have one. - Mar 24 2007

File Roller icons are actually compiled into the binary, so there's no practical or safe way to theme it. - Mar 24 2007

Icon Sub-Sets by mejogid 214 comments

Synaptic is themed, but you have to run 'sudo ln -s /home/[yourname]/.icons /root/.icons'. Liferea should be themed fine if you select it in options and use the generated gnome theme. If not, please post the output of 'locate liferea/pixmaps/liferea.png | grep -v /home/ - Mar 24 2007

Sounds like the robots one is a bug... I'll look into it. The only icon I can think of for planner is evolution branded. Tango Icons are in CVS, but not for the actual app itself. - Mar 24 2007

Just selecting gnome will download all the PNGs. It will install them aswell but they can easily be removed if you don't wish. You can find all the downloaded data in ~/.tango-generator/archives and the merged theme in ~/.tango-generator/tmp - Mar 24 2007

Although it's completely unclear, this means that Tango-Generator is having trouble reaching the web server. It may have been temporarily down, or you may have to set up your proxy. The error happens because I've just decided to ignore http errors since they were so common using the python http libraries. - Mar 24 2007

Could you try running it from the console? "python tango-generator.py" will launch it. I'll investigate it myself and update if I find a fix. The Gimp theme is installed in the current users directories so privelages shouldn't matter (assuming you have access to your own ~/.gimp-2.2 directory). - Mar 23 2007

I've currently only tested it on Gentoo, Fedora, Debian and Ubuntu. I'm actually downloading the SuSe DVD to have a poke round in vmware, so it should be fixed soonish. If you want it sooner, you can try the following:

Run updatedb as root (this is mentioned by the generator). You need slocate or rlocate installed for this to work.

As a normal user, try running locate [name of installed program] if the generator still can't detect other programs.

If the latter works but the generator still doesn't detect your program, try poking round isntallation.py and look at the lines containing locate. Trying modifying them so that they detect the correct paths on your system. If you don't feel up to it, just wait till my ISO downloads (which could be a while, given the problems I'm having with my ISP). - Mar 23 2007

If thunderbird isn't wokring, can you try to locate the thunderbird preferences directory in your home folder? If you enable hidden files in nautilus, it should be something like .mozilla/thunderbird, .mozilla-thunderbird or .thunderbird/. Please post back with which it is and I can fix it. - Mar 23 2007

MAC-OSX Splash

Gnome 2 Splash Screens by quiet 4 comments

It's certainly a decent looking splash, but wouldn't it make sense to atleast have one that says Gnome as an alternative? Obviously it's OS X inspired, which is cool, but there's no need to pretend Gnome's OS X. - Jan 13 2007

I too seem to be missing the text (although verbose works fine). Perhaps you could post the contents of your menu.lst?

Also, I'd really appreciate one at 1440x900 if you wouldn't mind, although I'll give it a go myself if you don't have the time. - Nov 16 2006

I can't help getting the feeling that you're not going to stop improving this until you're score reaches 100%... every release I think it's pretty near perfect and then you go and add some awesome new configuration option. Care to divulge where you plan to go with it now? Anyway, great jobb and keep up the good work. - Nov 01 2006
Tangerine Edgy Usplash

Usplash Themes by viper500 15 comments

A huge improvement over Edgy and a significant one over Dapper, but I can't help feeling there's something wrong with the shadows/reflections. Having two different lines of reflection (below ubuntu and its shadow and the progress bar and its shadow) gives the whole thing a strange look to me.

Sorry to be perdantic - as I said it's still a great splash. - Oct 17 2006

Also, I don't see why any themer would enjoy (and, seeing as they are working for free in their time, that's how they should feel about their work) basically mechanically imitating someone elses work; epsecially when they could be forced to remove it due to copyright infringement at any time. If you want the OS X look that much, it would be much easier to just buy one as your next computer. - Sep 09 2006

GTK2 Themes by cimi86 371 comments

Thanks alot! I've always loved the gilouche themes :D.

Unfortunately it's not the icon theme that is causing the blured icons. It happen witht the default gnome icons, the tango icons and the bluecurve icons.

If it's any help, this annoyance occurs only with sum of the murrine themes (somethings which I've just noticed and find surprising).

Themes with problem:
Candy, cool, elam, gperfection, neographite

Themes without problem:
Cappuccion, Gilouche, Graphite, LoveGray.

I'm guessing this is some obsucre murrine/clearlooks bug since I have not noticed it with any other themes. - Aug 21 2006
Murrine GTK+ Cairo Engine

GTK2 Themes by cimi86 371 comments

Wow... just looks so much fresher than clearlooks. Unfortunately, I have a couple of problems:

First, when using this theme, icons on the gnome-panel are forced to a slightly larger size than usual and appear blurred.

Secondly, the gilouche and lovegray themes simply don't seem to work (I'm using the FC5 rpm). Using them results in the horrible raleigh engine being used for some reason. I'm no expert, but having looked through the gtkrc I can't see anything wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Aug 21 2006

The Glass effect on the login box looks somewhat unbalanced - perhaps you could either make it so that the midway point of the slant is half way up the textbox? Also, a nice background by default would be nice. - Jul 12 2006

You can't install mockups - they're just someone's opinion of how something should look. Sometimes people will go on to make a theme based on a mockup, but the mockup is just an idea. - Apr 27 2006
