Afterthought: I should say that when I said "replace" I meant give people the choice :P. If people want their Apples, let them have them :P (Surely there are some exact replica enthusiasts). - Jan 19 2009

My recommendation: Replace the colourful apples with Tux images, or maybe even distro-specific images. That way Mandriva users can see their star, Mint users can see their funny LM mint leaf, and so forth. Probably a lot of tedious (if not actually hard) work to do though, so it's just a thought I had on impulse, seeing the Apple logos :P - Jan 19 2009

GTK2 Themes by LLL 6 comments

L'anglais est également fournie ci-dessous en français par Google Traduction.

I understand that for your first theme you did an easy one (and far be it for me to criticise, I've made exactly two contributions: one, a colour scheme that anyone willing to play with Emerald could do, and another a simple MSN client icon), but this is good for the same reason most other Mac lookalikes are good. I'm not someone who hates Mac lookalikes on principle, my favourite of the lookalikes is Leotard. I like that one so much because it doesn't try to be a 1:1 copy - there's some originality in it, because it doesn't look like a clone of the OS X interface, but instead a GTK theme made toward the same idea. It's a subtle distinction, but one that makes all the difference to me.

Congratulations on your first contribution, and I hope to see more from you in the future :) Try not to take what I said harshly, I just meant to point out my opinion on lookalikes in general.

The French below is merely a Google Translation of the English above

- Jan 19 2009

Xmas Theme

XFCE/XFWM4 Themes by keithhedger 21 comments

A theme like this does show a good amount of skill, but not a whole lot of sense. I understand, "'tis the season" and all, but my god does that look gaudy :|. I applied the theme for about twenty seconds, and just couldn't keep using it (but then, my eyes are already sore from sunlight, so that's less a reflection on the theme than it sounds).

Don't get me wrong - doing something like this with GTK really shows the power of the toolkit, but it shows no taste for design at all. I like your Fear and Mystery port, your Wood theme is good, and the Halloween one is great, but this has far too much red in it. It would have been better, probably, to make the dominant colour green, and do small touches with the red; green is much easier on the eyes. - Dec 07 2008
I just tried the Megaupload link again, and it worked. I guess I was just on the wrong end of a weird bug... - Nov 08 2008
I should say, none of the download links are working for me. The Megaupload one isn't working, the Rapidshare one has reached some sort of limit, and the yahoo ones give a 503 error. If you've already done DVD and CD cases, just ignore what I said :P - Nov 07 2008
I love these CD labels. Are you going to make DVD jackets or CD case inserts too? - Nov 07 2008

I've come back to using this theme after a while of using others, and I've noticed something about it. It looks really good when the window background is set to #99B4CD - or any of the surrounding blueish colours. It also looks good with Elementary's black metacity theme - Oct 13 2008
Ubuntu Dust

I love the look of it, and I hope Ubuntu 8.10 includes this, or something like it. One slight modification I'd like to see though, is a smoother colour transition between the tool bar and the menu bar, so they look like one object, instead of two pieces of an object. That's just a personal preference though. - Sep 10 2008

It's a great wallpaper, but if you're just linking to a .png file, why call it a "Fedora Download"? I was half expecting to get an rpm when I clicked that (though I don't know why anyone would use one for a single wallpaper). - Sep 10 2008

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by trooperu 16 comments

While there's a lot I don't like about Vista, one of the good things is the icon theme. Not the best, but still not actually bad. Some people are attracted to familiarity, and would take an immediate dislike to Linux if it didn't look like everyone's favourite shiny corporate overlord's work. - Aug 10 2008
KDE4 Oxygen new port for GNOME

I'm using KDE 4.1 now, and I find I get better performance out of GTK programs using this style instead of applying the Qt theme to GTK automatically. - Aug 09 2008

If you can, it's a good idea to upload your screenshots as .png files, instead of jpegs. Jpeg's compression makes everything look aweful. - Aug 01 2008
4 Fonts de Futurama

Fonts by PeTTi 12 comments

I translated it in Babelfish, and then tried to make it make more sense in English (I don't speak Spanish):

To install the fonts, extract them and then press Alt+F2, and type "gksu nautilus". In Ubuntu, copy the fonts to /usr/share/fonts/truetype. In other distros copy copy them to "fonts:/" in Nautilus. - Aug 01 2008

When in doubt, make it an option. That way, you please both groups of people. Some want their panels dark, some want them light. Make sure the GTK theme respects Gnome colour schemes, and include a few different panel backgrounds, and everyone will be happy :) - Jul 24 2008

I love the orange Elementary icons (and by DanRabbit's reaction I think they might become the norm for Elementary :P), but I don't like the peach-coloured GTK style. I'd probably prefer a similar blue one. - Jul 11 2008

When I look at this theme, I can't help but be reminded of the old days of using DOS shells, before Windows became mainstream. That's a good thing, by the way :P. Reminds me of Norton Commander. - Jun 21 2008

I think there's a striking, though almost certainly freak-coincidental, resemblance between your lily photos and the abstract "Flame" wallpaper before it on the front page :P Look at the lighter part of the petals and compare it to the six main wisps of the other wallpaper. - Jun 10 2008

Certainly a better result than the direct rips of the OS X theme. Some of those look like they were made out of screenshots, pasted into a GTK theme. - Jun 08 2008

It would be a simple resize, or even in Gnome, just choose "scaled" as the type of fit. The problem is, when you resize or scale these they tend to get a little grainy. If you have the project files, you could make a much cleaner resized version than anyone else. - Jun 01 2008

Ubuntu Start Button

I'm not really a fan of the way XP looks, myself, but the first complaint I hear whenever I show someone Linux is that it looks different. I think to myself something like "Of COURSE it bloody looks different. Your dog looks different to my cat too!", but just to quash that argument, I put on the Royale XP themes. I think TheRob made them, I can't remember right now. Anyway, I think your start menu button kind of captures the Windows style without compromising how "linuxy" it is. It's a good imitation, and looks like it works well for the purposes of familiarity, and not for fooling someone into thinking they're using XP. - May 30 2008
O3 (Ozone) Final version

GTK2 Themes by adriandumitrupop 7 comments

The blue tint is nice. I was just thinking it would be nice to have a blue theme. What isn't nice is the huge blue glow you have on everything. A glow can look nice in moderation, but as it is, it detracts from the theme overall. - May 29 2008
Oxygen Accurate

GTK2 Themes by Anywhere 8 comments

I'd say it's adequate, for now. If Gnome users, or KDE users who use GTK programs, want an accurate Oxygen Gnome theme, I think it will have to be built from the ground up. Perhaps even with a new GTK engine. Surely someone will do it when they get bored of making another mac clone theme. - May 27 2008

I know what you mean, but there are all different kinds of freedoms to give people with your work. I personally think Creative Commons licenses cover almost every freedom, since they also allow for exceptions. You can release your work for free with a non-commercial, attribution, no-derivatives, share-alike license (I think those are all CC freedoms...), and still sell the right to use them commercially to individual parties. If I ever get the book I'm writing finished, I'm going to release it with a Creative Commons license for digital distribution, and see if I can get a dead-tree edition published. - May 27 2008

It doesn't look cartoony, but I think it goes well with the Gartoon (and numerous derivative, such as Ubuntoon) icon theme. Plus, it's nice to see something that isn't a Vista or OS X knock off. To each his own, but there's just so many Vista and OS X themes, it's getting hard to find originals. - May 26 2008
GNOME Wallpaper Contest

I'm not 100% convinced, myself, since there's no mention of it on, or on the Gnome website, but it can't hurt to submit wallpapers. I've also put mine on DeviantArt. I'm pretty sure it's a real contest though, and if not, I still made two wallpapers that I otherwise wouldn't have made :P - May 16 2008

Sorry to double post. When I applied it, all of my folders went to the default Gnome folder. Are you planning on making an updated version for Gnome 2.22? I know it's got something to do with renamed files, but I wouldn't know where to begin (aside from the obvious "~/.icons") - May 09 2008

It's definitely a nice looking theme. I know I'll use it. One thing bothers me about it though; the folder icons look a little bit high-res for an 8-Bit Mario game. Either way, it's a great theme, and I look forward to more from you :) - May 09 2008
