You might be astonished that I write here. Nice to see your menu evolving. I have - however - one thing I don't like on your screenshot.
It s a bit cluttered. I mean you have 3 columns, and 4 buttons at the bottom. and you have the columns not starting at the same height. Wouldn't it be nice to rearrange that a bit?

Unfortunately, I installed another distro and backed all up except the theme. I have - however - still the instructions on how to make it work on the kbfx version I used then - should still be valid.
Although I can't upload, I have here the instructions to fix it manually.
Note: the theme is saved somewhere in ~/.kde/apps/.kbfx normally, if I recall correctly. Sorry, can't look at it exactly, cause currently on a windows box :-(
Here's the how-to fix
* Copy topbg.png to mask.png
* Delete scrollnormal.png
* Copy tilenormal.png to scrollnormal.png
* Open this new scrollnormal.png and scale it down to 6 pix height
* It's best to change the color of scrollnormal to blue, e.g. the one used in the buttons
* Then, in KBFXconfigapp , change the elements column height - I don't remember exactly, but I think I used 368
* Apply it and look at the result
* You might need to play a bit with the value of heigth, if it isnt correct
Hope that helps - Aug 02 2007

KB navigation IS implemented and it's being tested BUT it's not yet merged to the main tree...
So merging and testing the merged tree is next, but it might take a bit, as we're working on version for KDE 4 as well.
Stay tuned - Jul 12 2007

I'm not the artist, but I can answer it... This isnt kmenu you see... this is the KBFX applet.
Unfortunately, the theme as published here, is broken for current kbfx version.
The next KBFX Release is due sometimes this month probably, and as I fixed the theme, I will make it available for download in the fixed version, with all artist tributes going to code2 (haven't seen him nor news here for a long time :-)
If you want to reconfigure your system earlier, contact me, so I can provide you the fixed theme and tell you, which kbfx version to use.
else - watch www.kbfx.org for soon coming news on kbfx

We're in the finishing phase of official kbfx 0.4.9.3 Silk release. I installed this theme, and it was also messed up :-(
The good news is that I have fixed it and we will publish it (with due credits to Code2 of course) at the date of KBFX release.
If there's someone who can't wait it, contact me - i'll publish it then ;-)

I hope I dare post a negative comment:
1st, while cd and HD and external hd are very detailed, the computer icon isnt - feels inconsistent
2nd, well they're too detailed to be called abstract, but not enough detailed to be photorealistic :-(
Nothing for my taste, but clearly with good knowledge of the creator
In short - I don't like it, but I know my POV doesn't count that much. There are surely people who will appreciate it more. So... Good luck, much success and all the best...
PS: voted good anyway, cause my taste is less worth than me recognizing the ability to do good graphics ;-) - Apr 12 2007

Although I have a really nice big screen, I always disliked those fat borders -
But you've proven me wrong
Excellent
Also excellent is someone that sees that a real desktop experience also involves background, logon, bootsplash. Would you mind providing a kbfx theme as well?
Thumbs up
I will use it
BTW if configuring emerald, can you make it possible to be only half that fat? - Mar 19 2007

Really nice work! I like it that it's available for kdm AND splash.
2 wishes, still:
- My screen resolution is quite big: 1680 x 1050. Can you make such a widescreen variant of it both (KDM and Splash)
- Can you also make a fitting GRUB Theme and bootsplash (or better RHGB) Theme
I would really appreciate to have a consistent bootup process...
Thanks for considering it... - Mar 08 2007

Hello
As you may see in the first comment, 2nd position, I don't like the idea neither. But well, I see it less worse than you. I think this is the wrong way, but hey - is there the "get the facts" campaign existing or not?
So I do not think such things are the right way to go, but it's better doing sthg productive (as me in participating the kbfx team), but I wouldn't see it as a reason to ban... - Feb 12 2007

I don't want to flame, but I don't like it, and I feel that some things are problematic with that bg:
1. I don't like background pictures with windows (as in program windows, not in the product) on it. it's disturbing and takes the focus from the really opened windows
2. The Vista and Windows logo are probably trademarked
3. I don't like microsoft, and vista neither. But do you really think that linux is that bad that it can only score by pointing to failures of our big opponent? I don't thinik so. There are so many good things about linux that I see no need in pointing with the finger on windows. I'm a Pro sthg type rather than a Contra sthg type of man.
4. My Pro is that the artwork (aesthetically) is nice. Though it might not be your work but the one of bad coders? ;-)
Ok, that were my two cents and the reason I vote bad. Hope you don't take it personal. BTW: my rating for "bad" mostly comes from the fact of opened windows in a wallpaper, which I find a bit disturbing - for the exact purpose of a wallpaper.
Other things are just general considerations... - Feb 12 2007

You are frustrated because of - in your view - lack of simplicity? Well, one thing first: if what you mean is the 3 column construct, we have still 2column constructs available. I don't see any change in behaviour beside of that - and the fact, that there are more pluglets (which you neednt use) and a bigger config (which you use once and then can forget forever, if you chose so).
In fact, with 2 column presentation and no plugins enabled, it's even simpler, because of the finally resolved issue with the scroll bars, now being at the appropriate place.
If you still wouldn't want to use the menu itself, fine - you're free to choose. But I think that a 2nd look could well change your oppinion.
All the best to over there... - Jan 19 2007

First of all- sorry for the harsh answer. I felt indeed a little offended, but it's because kbfx is really sthg i LOVE. ;-)
It's true that no distri has us yet as default menu. But we don't really care.
KBFX in KDE 4? Sure! We're already coding that. It doesn't mean that it will be the default, nor that it will even be included in KDE 4. We know nothing about that yet. But it's for SURE that we will deliver a release for use with KDE 4. And we'll deliver it via KBFX.org. If one day the KDE team wants to include us ... fine. If one day, a distri wants us as default start menu ... fine.
If not, it's no problem.
So, sorry again for being that harsh. But you know there's lots of work in it, you can believe that. BTW: how do you like the scroll solution as in the mock linked in sirajs comment?
Greetings and hope I didn't make you that angry... - Jul 24 2006
