My priority is to improve the early years. I wasn't around back then so I have to rely on feedback and the few traces I can find on the net. So... any help appreciated! - May 09 2007

I'm the one who put together the timeline at http://www.kde-files.org/content/show.php/Linux+Distro+Timeline?content=44218
I don't mind if the timeline I made is modified (as stated on the image), however I don't understand why you're using my nick and e-mail in it. I did not make this version. Please either change it or remove the entry.
As a side note, the only addition you've made is a cramped in "OZ", which is not much of an update. I assume you're an OZ user/dev. :) I will however add OZ in my version if you don't mind -- so thanks for that info! - May 08 2007
When Francois announced he would stop developing Yakuake I was worried it would die. You've done a great job so far, Sho! Can't wait for the KDE4 port...

KDE 3 Domino Styles by code2 10 comments
Select Domino (which you have to install if you haven't already). Click Configure. Choose the Load/Save tab and Import Config. Now browse to the file you've downloaded from here.
The file name extension doesn't really matter. It's probably easier just to right click the Download button on this page and save the target file. - May 05 2007

The bullet marks the date, the 45 degree angle is just a design thing (even though it's not consistent). Derek is right, it's confusing. I'm working on a different layout which will hopefully look better. - Apr 18 2007

I could use some help on LBA-Linux:
I believe it was Red Hat based and later Fedora, but when did that change?
I have no idea when the first public release was (as "SOT Linux") or when it was renamed Best Linux. Or when the project actually died (as "LBA-Linux"). Anyone?

By the way, if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix the Red Hat/Fedora and SUSE/openSUSE trees I'd appreciate it. I guess it's more correct to say Fedora and openSUSE are successors instead of offsprings? - Mar 04 2007

According to distrowatch it is now discontinued. - Sep 10 2006

My intention for the timeline is to make it somewhat simplified (an example is naming "Debian GNU/Linux" just "Debian"), and since I don't know how to put your suggestion in the timeline without making a mess I think I'll leave it the way it is for now, but I appreciate the comment.
If anyone has comments on this approach, please let me know. - Sep 10 2006

I have yet to add Lycoris, which was based on Caldera, which I definitely need help with. I'd appreciate it if anyone could explain the story behind Lycoris/Caldera/SCO/United Linux (/Corel?). :)

Naturally distros "give and take" from each other, but I haven't found any sources on Red Hat's connection to Slackware, or Gentoo being a split from Sorcerer. This story by the Gentoo founder D. Robbins give me the impression he started from scratch after he left Stampede: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-dist1.html
I'd love to add some more of the main Asian distros, but it's hard to find info on when they started (and died) and their connection to other distros.
I removed Linux From Scratch from alexdark's original, but I guess it would make sense to have it included. I could need some help with which distros are LSF-based though.
Perhaps it would be cool if the *BSD's were included as well... Any help on that appreciated too. - Aug 20 2006
