I didn't create the theme, and it's basically just converted from Konfabulator, so the artwork comes from the Konfabulator version. I'm no gimp artist, but if you or somebody else wanna try it, please go ahead :) - Sep 04 2003
Did you download the tgz file? There's a theme and a py file inside, and some pics too :) - Aug 30 2003
Did Mandrake release 9.2 already? I'm running 9.1 and I don't have any issues, maybe you should stick to a stable release :) - Aug 30 2003

It's only a theme file, no python script. It works only with noatun, if you're using xmms you need to change the theme file a bit, see catch22's posts. - Sep 04 2003

I'm running an old version of KSmoothDock (2.1) with my own patches for skins. The new versions of KSmoothDock don't support parabolic icon zooming anymore. - Sep 04 2003
That would be pretty difficult to implement. Maybe you should ask the KDE developers to implement those tooltips first :) There's already a patch that draws drop shadows under the icon text on the desktop, it could probably be extended to tooltips. I'll give it a try maybe, but that's pretty low on the priority list for now. - Jul 08 2003
Soon, I'm just a bit busy at the moment and I'd like to clean them up a bit and then I'll package and post them here :) Except for the clock, which was converted from Konfabulator by another guy, but I'll ask him to post it. - Jul 03 2003
Sorry for the late reply, you can find the wallpaper and a few more over here:

To change the KMenu icon you have to replace kmenu.png in your default icon theme. I've just replaced the 16x16 icon and I kept the original tux'n'tosh icon for the other sizes, so I've replaced the ~/.kde/share/icons/Aqua/16x16/apps/kmenu.png file.

Good luck :) - Jun 27 2003

I think I got the wallpaper on, but I'm not really sure. Send me an email and I'll email it to you. The clock is a SuperKaramba theme, and the round thing in the corner is a Karamba mail checker. They've been ported from Konfabulator, the clock by someone else. I'll post my Konfabulator ported Karamba themes here soon, about the clock I'll ask the author if he can post it. - Jul 08 2003
The top panel is the KDE Kicker with the Liquid theme, modified a bit by me. The bottom panel is KSmoothDock version 2.1. - Jul 08 2003

Thanks for providing instructions :) Just a quick note, on Mandrake you have to run configure --prefix=/usr, I'm not sure about SuSE, and Red Hat should be the same as Mandrake. If anybody got it compiled and installed on Yopper please post some instructions, some people seem to have problems compiling it on Yopper. - Aug 12 2003
This is only a window decoration. For the top panel I use Kicker, the bottom one is a Karamba theme. - Jul 08 2003
You probably don't have the libart_lgpl and libart_lgpl-devel packages installed, they should be on your RH9 cds. You should also run ./configure --prefix=/usr to get the windec installed in the proper directory. Good luck! - Jun 06 2003
I haven't tested it on SuSE, but just a quick guess, I think SuSE installs KDE under /opt, so try running ./configure --prefix=/opt, then run make clean, make and make install again. It probably gets installed under /usr/local by default. Hope it helps. - Jun 05 2003
In konsole right-click and choose "Settings/Schema" and then choose a transparent one. You can define your own transparent schemas also. Don't forget to do a "Save Settings" after. - May 26 2003
It's a .tar.bz2 file and I think your web browser is uncompressing the file and loading it into the browser. Try right-clicking on the download link and do a "Save Link As..." if you're using Konqueror, or try using wget. It might be a problem with the mimetype on or your web browser. I couldn't upload a .tar.gz because it was too big and has a 750KB limit for the uploads. - May 26 2003
Try make clean, "./configure --prefix=/usr" then make and make install again, it should install properly, I've tested it on Mandrake 9.0. - May 22 2003
Thanks :) You can get the drop shadow here:

It only works at 102x768 screen resolution. - May 21 2003
Of course you can have it, I'll post it under the Karamba section soon, when I have a bit more time :) I didn't post it because it doesn't have any effects, it's pretty simple, so I thought nobody would be interested. The icons I'm using in the docker are from the Aqua icon set. - May 21 2003
Yes, that does it for the toolbar buttons, but I wanted a flat kicker also, for the top panel. - May 20 2003
The docker is a simple Karamba theme that I've made a while ago, using the Aqua icons and some transparent images that I've made with gimp. It doesn't have any special effects like the newer SuperKaramba themes, because I like it to be small and always visible on the desktop. I wanna work on a new docker that would be able to load skins from this site:, but I don't have much time right now. If anybody's willing to do it, please go ahead, that would be a really cool docker :) - May 20 2003
The little star comes from this icon set: I've just resized it and made it a bit darker with gimp. I'm using the star because I'm running Mandrake and it resembles the Mandrake logo, but there's a few other nice icons in that icon set.

On the corner after the clock I have the Desktop Access KDE button, and the arrow is the right panel-hiding button, it's not a menu :)

The font I'm using for the clock/date applet is Luxi Sans, bolded for the time, and it comes with most Linux distributions (I'm running Mandrake).

Hope it helps :) - May 20 2003
Ok, I'll try :) I should probably post a patch, but my liquid is pretty old, and this is a simple hack. Edit the widget-engine/liquid.ccp file, and in the LiquidStyle::drawPrimitive method look for case PE_Panel. Remove the if(lw == 1), else if(lw == 2) and all the code for both these conditions. Make sure you leave the code for the last (second) else condition while removing the else condition itself, which is basically this line: KStyle::drawPrimitive(pe, p, r, cg, flags, opt). You can just comment out everything from before the first if up until after the last else, something like this:

/* if(lw == 1){
else if(lw == 2){
else */
KStyle::drawPrimitive(pe, p, r, cg, flags, opt);

I think that's all I changed. This will make all the panels look flat, not just the kicker, so you might not like it if the panels in some apps also will look flat like that. But I don't really have a problem with that. I've tried to do it just for the kicker, but I wasn't able to figure it out as I'm not a KDE programmer. Good luck :) - May 20 2003
Yeah, the window title is smaller only when you choose "No borders" in the windec configuration. I think all the variations of the Acqua windec have this "bug", I'm not sure it's a bug or not as I didn't write the original windec. Maybe somebody can fix it? :)

I'm using Liquid with some small changes, I've just commented out the code that draws the 3d shadows for the panels, so the top panel looks flat. - May 20 2003

Check out this article on Slashdot:

It looks like they're trying to start a flamewar (again) between KDE and Gnome users. Anyways, I thought it might be an interesting read, maybe there's some good ideas/features in gDesklets that we could use in SuperKaramba :) - Aug 11 2003
One feature I'd really like to see in SuperKaramba is session management, so I don't have to always load all my themes when I start KDE. I'm not a KDE programmer, but I wish someone would implement this and if it's not the original author please send him the patches :) - Jun 06 2003

I think that's a small bug I've found, when the dock was maximized it wasn't updating the lower part of the dock with the correct pixmap and it was causing a strange effect moving the backround image. I've sent the patch to Viet, he'll probably incorporate it into the next version. I don't think it has anything to do with the resizing, and I think it's better to keep the dock at the actual size, so the space on the sides of the dock can be used for other things, like Karamba themes. - Jun 18 2003
Nice job :) I just wanted to make a few suggestions. For the transparent code you could probably take a look at the transparent menus code in KDE or Liquid, or maybe the transparent kicker in KDE-CVS. It'd be also nice to have an optional dock border and to define the size and the colour of the border. And maybe the arrows under the running tasks. It would be also cool to group the tasks, like the KDE taskbar. - Jun 13 2003

Hey texstar, could you post some patched KDE 3.1.2 Mandrake rpms on one of your mirrors, please? :) There's also another nice patch for desktop icon text shadows over here, if you wanna try to patch it to KDE 3.1.2:

Many thanks for all your great work. - Jun 12 2003
I really like your patch, but I was wondering about breaking binary compatibility. Would it break BC only with the kwin styles or with other parts of KDE as well? I'm running Mandrake 9.0 and KDE 3.1.0 and I was thinking just to apply this patch to the kdebase package, but I'm not sure what else I'd have to recompile if this patch breaks binary compatibility. Thanks. - May 19 2003
