Nothing to add except that it works, does exactly what it should. Took a little while on a modem connection though. Good work! - Apr 21 2002

That's nice of you. :)

PNG is a _very good_ format for lossless compression of pictures - generally it's excellent for using in places where you would otherwise use GIF, for example. The only thing I would not use PNG for on the Internet is photographs (JPEG is still the best) and other complex pictures, but for other things it's great and can compress very well indeed.

The general procedure on kde-look is posting a PNG unless the picture is too big to upload, in that case what many people do (and what I think is the best thing) is uploading a JPEG image and linking to a homepage where the original PNG can be downloaded.

Thanks again for the wallpaper, nice work. - Apr 07 2002

Nice one, I like the icon park idea - seen that done before and I've always liked it, makes the desktop look more `interactive' and less like a still from the LOTR film (for example, that's what I have at the moment) plonked on the desktop. And thanks for making a PNG version, don't know if it was because I asked for it but I appreciate it nonetheless. :) - Apr 07 2002

I don't think he needs anti-aliasing on those size fonts. On small fonts aa just makes them look fuzzy and leads to squinting and tired eyes. Those fonts look clean and sharp (much like mine!), but I hazard a guess that the OP uses aa for larger size fonts. - Apr 05 2002

Thank you very much for that one, it's just how I wanted it - I have the titlebar without any buttons on the left hand side, previously the text had been a bit tight to the edge. So thanks! :) - Apr 03 2002

I like this one very much, I am using it at the moment. One small request, how about a little bit of a gap between the right hand edge and the start of the title text?

I like your other Kubical KDE stuff, and these icons are great too. I agree with the other poster who mentioned smaller icons - I do use 48x48 with the iKons theme because it's just _that good_, but a choice of small icons would be good too. :) - Mar 06 2002

I like the style, I use Crux most of the time in Gnome (on the rare occasions I use it, heresy I know ;) and am glad you've done this for KDE.

But: too many buttons. I don't know how to make IceWM decorations, if I did I would fix it myself, would it be possible for you to do a version that _only_ has Minimize | Maximize | Close in the top right? Even better would be a version with Close moved over to the top-left.

Just a suggestion, based on my preferences. Course, you could get around this by making a KDE-native version of the decoration... :)

Anyway, good work. - Mar 06 2002

Thanks for having a look. I will have a look at the new binaries and try them, but it'll have to wait for a rainy Sunday when I've time to mess around with them - at the mo' I am just happy having Liquid up, working and looking sweeeet under Mandrake 8.1. Thanks for the patches! - Feb 12 2002

I like this one a lot, nice theme. I don't think it looks very much like w****** xp though - this is much nicer IMO. The only thing I would change is that the deep blue on menus is a bit off-putting. Maybe change it to a lighter shade. - Feb 08 2002

I like this one a lot. I don't like the dark green look enough to use it all the time, but it's nice to have on occasionally. Including background for kicker and konq, and the little dark-green-to-lighter-green fades are very, very nice and professional looking.

Good work! - Feb 08 2002
Modified Liquid title bar

KDE 3.x Window Decorations by xks 11 comments

Nice hack, I like it. What I really really want though it for the titlebar to have: close in top left; minimize | maximize in top right. Is it easy to patch Liquid in this way? - Feb 08 2002

Icon Sub-Sets by asifalirizwaan 6 comments

Good work! Yeah, it would be nice to have _more_ icons in this set, most of all I'd like icons for 'open' folders and different colored folders. Maybe you could use different metal colors like gold and bronze for these.

Keep up the good work. :) - Feb 07 2002

I've been using this splash for a few months and I like it very much, IMO it's better than any other splash I've yet seen.

I only noticed the 'jumping icons' thing last night, which I notice you've already fixed. Thanks very much for making such a good splash, it's FAR nicer than the default KDE one (I changed back to default recently just to remember what it looked like, boy is that ugly!). - Feb 07 2002

but I can't get khaos_dark.kcsrc to work. I've copied them both to ~/.kde/share/apps/kdisplay/color-schemes/, but only khaos.kcsrc shows up under KDE Control Center. KDE also reports that the file type for khaos_dark.kcsrc is 'unknown', which should not be.

Smooth Aqua

Ice-WM Themes by akh 20 comments

Great window decoration, I like the smooth edges much more than the other IceWM Aqua decoration.

However, it is confusing having the yellow and green colored buttons switched. I tend to mouse-up there and just click the button rather than looking at the color first, so with this decoration I will restore a window when I mean to minimize etc.

Not a huge point, this decoration would be near-perfect if only the buttons went: minimize | maximize/ restore | close.

Thanks for making this though, goof work. :) - Feb 06 2002

What color scheme are you using? Is it a standard KDE one, or something you've brewed yourself - if it's your own, It'd be nice if you uploaded it to kde-look.

Cheers. - Feb 06 2002
Thanks for the patch! It works a treat, I was having loads of problems with Liquid under Mandrake 8.1. There were nasty dark gray backgrounds on the menus, I'd tried everything I could think of to fix it, but no success.

However, after I'd applied your patch and recompiled, the problem was gone! I don't know how it was fixed but fixed it _was_ and Liquid now looks lovely.

One question: the leave_the_lines patch (forgive me but I can't remember the exact name) doesn't actually 'leave the lines'. It seems to do exactly the same as the standard Pablorg patch does... there are still no 'scanlines' on the kicker and menus when I use this patch. I have removed Liquid, re-patched liquid.cpp and recompiled, but it looks exactly the same as with the normal patch. I'm using MDK 8.1 and KDE 2.2.1, can you advise me about why it's not working, and suggest a possible cure?

Cheers. :) - Feb 05 2002
Simple Retro

Wallpaper Other by ThePlaidRanger 2 comments

with Spiral Man. Good concept, I like it a lot. BUT you really need to use a lossless format, those sharp edges and clear text lead to horrible artifacts when you use a lossy compression like JPEG. If there's a problem with PNG (you should always use this format rather than GIF unless there's a good reason) being too big to upload, then do as others here do and upload a JPEG, but give a link to your web site where you've uploaded the original PNG image.

Great idea though! :) - Feb 05 2002

I use Mandrake 8.1. MDK puts KDE stuff in /usr rather than /opt so you need to do the --prefix=/usr when you ./configure. Other than that it works perfectly. - Feb 02 2002

KDE 2 Themes by zakariya 14 comments

Okay, thanks for that info. I've had problems in the past with upgrading themes, sometimes they need their guts ripping out before I can install the new one! Not so in this case. :)

I do not have any fond programming memories because I've never written a line of code in my life - I like mwm because it's clean and clear, I love that 'chunky' look. Coupled with a nice bold font for the taskbar and a good color scheme, it's lovely and very very usable (problem with some themes / decorations is that while they look l33+ as hell for five minutes, they're just not usable over a long period).

Keep up the great work with GONX. :) - Feb 01 2002

even nicer than your first, work-in-progress wallpaper. my original comment stands though, i still find the white backfground too bright to use all the time. i am not sure how you could change this though and still have the same clean, 'gleaming' look to it. - Feb 01 2002

Nice work, I like your style very much. I'm using it with the 'Summer' color theme, also from kde-look, and Mwm window decoration - it looks GREAT! Thanks for making this wonderful theme. NB for the other people who posted on it: the window decoration _isn't_ part of the theme. You can use this theme with any decoration / color scheme you like (it just happens that I really like the Mwm decoration). My only complaint is that on some color schemes, the difference between a checked and unchecked radio-button isn't always that obvious - that's hardly the fault of the theme though, and it's easily corrected.

Anyway a question. I used the last version of your theme, is it all right to do a straight # ./configure && make && make install on this one when I've downloaded it, or should I first # make uninstall my original GONXstyle theme - or would it make no difference?

Thanks. - Feb 01 2002

Sorry, but if I wanted my desktop to look like Windoze 1.01 or dosshell then that is what I would use. There's no reason you can't make nice greyscale icons or use a limited pallette, but this is a bit much. - Jan 29 2002

Really nice work, I use the icons most of the time in KDE and I really like them. Well done!

A request: how about icons for "open" folders? I can't remember the filenames, but they're the ones where the folder appears open, and contains a sheet of paper.

With that added, this set would be perfect IMO. - Jan 28 2002
