You should select /usr/share/ubuntu-tips-applet/ in the Startup apps, yeah. - Feb 03 2011

It's easy to set time between tips:
left mouse click on the Ubuntu Tips icon and select 'Preferences...' item. Then you can set 'Refresh time' so long as you wanna. - Feb 03 2011

Now I'm developing a widget with the ability to copy text, use links and set time period instead Notify-osd notifications without that. I hope it'll help you. - Jan 31 2011
Yep, 'checkgmail' creates widget and shows it so long as you want. And it's idea for me. - Jan 28 2011
You're right. But it's notify-osd trouble. Look:
This bug has been around for 1.5 years. It's confirmed with nobody assigned to fix it.

So I'm sorry, but it's impossible to set show-up time. - Jan 28 2011
Oh crap :(
I didn't test it for Cairo, only for the GNOME panel.
May be Cairo wants 'png' icon instead 'svg' icon. I don't know. I'll try to fix it in the next update. - Jan 27 2011
Try it :)
So everything will install to '/usr/share/ubuntu-tips-applet' and desktop-file will be in '/usr/share/applications'.

If something will be wrong, just type this in terminal:

sudo rm -r /usr/share/ubuntu-tips-applet && sudo rm /usr/share/applications/ubuntu-tips-applet.desktop - Jan 27 2011
Hey, it's false. Tested. BTW you can't set 10 seconds interval, only 1 minute at least. - Jan 27 2011
