Application Styles by skulptor 369 comments

Hmm, well add it as an option then, please. I guess many people don't use clean styles because they think they're faster but because they /feel/ cleaner. I don't care too much about memory consuption, to be honest.

If you add it as an option, you can let the user decide if he/she needs it. Just make sure they look good (if enabled) ;-). - Apr 17 2008

Well, I think, background gradients aren't bad at all but look really wonderful and will definitely fit to the style. You really should implement them :-). - Apr 16 2008

I really love your theme. It is a /very/ good contrast to bold styles like oxygen (which I like aswell, btw.). IMHO, this theme should be considered for inclusion into KDE4.1, not as default of course but as a light option.

One thing I don't like though is the size of the scrollbars, they are a bit too wide. Wider scrollbars are easier to grab, of course, but those are too large anyway. It would be really nice if you could make them a little smaller. - Apr 02 2008

Hey everaldo, why don't you join the oxygen team? I really _LOVE_ your widget style, and though your iconset won't become the default one for KDE4 for sure, your widget style mockup might. It looks really way more serene than all the other oxygen screenshot's I've seen. It's simply awesome! - Jun 20 2007

Audio Apps by Sebien 324 comments

Yep, that's what I currently do (the workaround).
Though I think that scrolling with the mouse wheel should by DEFAULT change the volume, not the position in the track. This should only happen if you scroll not over the cover but over the position bar. Really, changing the position in a track is one of the things people normally never do. And if, they usually have the main interface opened anyway because they're searching through a couple of files. - Jun 17 2007

Awesome app. One think I'd like to have changed though: The volume should be adjusted via the mouse wheel, not the song's current position. Other than that, awesome work, keep it up! - Jun 17 2007
Traverso

Audio Apps by rsijrier 21 comments

I just tried Traverso and I must say I really like it's interface. Maybe the devs should take some inspiration from Ableton Live, which also has an awesome UI but still too many buttons. I like the approach of editing everything on the track very much!
Quite the contrary on the commercial side of programs is Adobe Audition. I know a lot of my friends use it because it's UI is so easy to understand, and I just tried it yesterday. It's a self-explaining UI, sticking to common UI guidelines, but it takes ages to get a result, seriously! Common UI guidelines just aren't good for professional audio programs. And so I just came back to Ableton Live (which btw. has a WAY higher learning curve than Traverso).
What I would like to see in 0.5 is an equalizer. Please, Traverso devs, if you read this, take a look at Ableton Live and look where they put the plugins. This would be the perfect way to implement in Traverso. Right now, it's not powerful enough for me. But it DEFINITELY has the most potential of all Linux audio programs out there. - Jun 13 2007

Sebastian, I guess you hear it all the time but this IS definitely one of the best open source programs out there, and in my opinion even the best burn program I know. Not even Nero 7 for Windows, though having way more features, comes to the stability and speed and thus user-friendlyness that you introduced with K3B. I really want to thank you very much for all the efforts you put into that project. I'm sure it was worth it.
Btw., K3B 1.0 is even featured at golem.de :-). - Mar 17 2007

I did not install this theme, I'm sorry, as I don't have any KDE4 app up and running. But as I can see from the screenshots, it's main idea is really nice. I admit I'm not really into minimalistic themes, but this one is actually quite serene, not trying to be too minimalistic. I really like the check and radio boxes and also all kind of sliders on screenshot #1. The pushbuttons though are a bit too standard. Try to find something better for those, the round corners look out of place imo. Either completely flat, or round corners and more 3D effect on them. But what really came to my eyes is that there are too many lines. Try to change the border around the tabs for example, so that they clearly differ from the groupbox borders. That would already make the screen way uncluttered.
Hope this helps =). - Mar 12 2007
Better workspace ordering on taskbar (Mockup)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by scream 6 comments

Why should dragging be more complicated?
6 or 8 desktops is rather rare, mostly because then people use on desktop per app. But if you then had the dynamic approach I proposed in a reply to the first reply of your post (complicated ^^, I'll simply update the description tomorrow), you would still go fine with the space. - Jan 28 2007
Better workspace ordering on taskbar (Mockup)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by scream 6 comments

How about the taskbar resizing intelligently? I mean, the desktop you're working on is gonna take up as much space as it needs for displaying the windows, the rest of the space is then split up to the other desktops. I'll draw a mockup tomorrow maybe or in a few days. When switching the desktop, e.g. from desktop 2 to desktop 1, the button for desktop 2 will move to the right to make place for the list of the windows on desktop 1.
Maybe even in a nice animation, don't know whether it's possible with the current kicker code.
This would give you nearly the same space you now have with the option "show only windows of current desktop", plus the advantages of my approach. - Jan 28 2007

Is there a 2.0 or sth. similar coming soon? Because, I use your iconset for a pretty long time now, but there are still some icons missing in 1.5: An opera icon, icons for kget, kmail etc. Especially many icons inside the applications haven't been done yet.

I would love to see this icontheme as a standard for KDE4. I mean, just take a look at the mockups and screenshots here, nearly everyone who loves eyecandy uses your iconset. You're the standard in icon-eyecandy on KDE now!

So please keep up the good work and create all the icons needed to replace Crystal with nuoveXT! - Aug 29 2005

Well, I really have no problem with you using it. And I also don't worry about getting less attention than I deserve (this is a splash screen, not a killer app ^^). It's just that I'd like people to really keep the GPL in mind when they use it. More and more, there's a tendency to just use everything licensed under the GPL as if you did it yourself.

But nice work, though, especially your login theme. I guess I'll try it this week. - Jul 25 2005

It would have been nice if you mentioned me in the credits. I see your background_transparent.png is different, but as the 1.png, 2.png... 8.png have absolutely the same size, I'm sure you took them from my package. This can't be a coincidence as it required several steps to make them look the way they do now.

I don't have any problem with you using them, I just insist on you adhering to the GPL. - Jul 25 2005

Icon Sub-Sets by saki 96 comments

Oh, damn, I'm so used to them now, I use them daily. I can't wait for a final version!

Still, I have some things you should take a look at (apart from the missing icons): The back and the up-button for directory browsing (e.g. in konqueror, or in save and open dialogs) are pretty similar. Please make them somewhat different so that they can be divided at the first look!

You should also take a look at the konqueror and kontact buttons, the world in the back of them is a little bit too small and looks more like an egg than a sphere.

But still, it's the best iconset out there! - Jul 23 2005

They're just BEAUTIFUL. But I think, the first one should have icons in the bottom bar, too, just as the second one, but much smaller so that they fit into it. I prefer the first one because it's more eye-candy, but the second one has more functionality. Maybe you can combine that?

But GREAT WORK! - May 04 2005

But with some differences:

"perhaps even themes could be made in the same way that themes exist for the splash screens..."

Well, I actually thought you just mentioned KCC as an example and wanted themes for nearly everything in KDE, and that's what I wouldn't agree with. I thought you wanted a KDE style engine that allows designing programs like websites, and I don't think this is useful. (I hope you now get my point)

Well, but a theme plugin only for that little thing in KCC could be nice. It might also be useful for PR reasons: Imagine which good platform this would give for distributors to get their logos on your desktop - a SuSE theme in KCC. Of course, you can still switch to other themes.

ATI already did this with their new themeable Control Center on Windows.

Well, I finally like your idea, now that I understand your point :).

PS: I hope you now also got what I was talking about all the time... :-/ - Dec 26 2004
KDE CC/IC, Konqueror, KMail (IN CVS)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by lokheed 128 comments

Well, actually I think we're not talking about the same things:

I was talking about that I don't like the idea that every program has it's OWN theme (with it's own themeing engine).

I think you mean that KDE needs a better theme engine. I fully agree with that, but I don't see no point in letting every app design it's own buttons.

Imagine what a chaos there would be on your desktop - it's already a problem now with the different toolkits - GTK, Java, Qt. I agree that KDE themes should be much more flexible, but if every program has it's own theme, own icons, own colours, own fonts - it's just a mess!!

Maybe you could tell me more exactly wether you're talking about the KDE themeing engine or themes for every program as it's hard for me to discuss this without knowing what you're exactly talking about :D. - Dec 25 2004
