I REALLY love your icons. I wonder, could you make them in higher resolutions though (including the old folders - I prefer those)? It seems as though 48x48 is just too small these days with most people using 1280x1024 as a resolution or even 1600x1200. That's why I use 72x72, but I'd love to use your icons. Just a thought/suggestion. AWESOME work! - Sep 04 2002

when it is completely cohesive. i.e. when the window backgrounds aren't the flat gray of the kde default style. Until then, it looks way too unfinished. Nonetheless, it has GREAT potential. - Aug 16 2002

and there was one thing glaring out at me. I was using Crystal-classic before, and I changed to the new ones, and they seem a little thin. For example, the paper in mime files is thinner than it was previously - I think the previous width was better. Many other things also seem thin like that. Otherwise, great work! - Aug 16 2002

I must be nobody cause I don't have them all and I'd like to - it'd go well with my Aqua theme :)

Yes, yes, I know - KDE should have "it's own" look and all, but, frankly, until Keramik is refined enough to my liking (I love it, but it needs some more work before I want to use it) I plan to simulate OS X - it's a great looking OS and there's nothing wrong with enjoying that aspect of it while running Linux. - Aug 09 2002

the problem he's pointing out is that being WRONG doesn't make someone a FOOL - and, I have to agree, calling an average person a FOOL for using Windows is in bad taste. Now, calling a network admin a fool for using Windows - that might be more accurate - that's someone who should know. But Joe Blow doesn't need to know nor is expected to know so much about computers to be able to distinguish so easily between what makes Linux better and Windows worse. - Aug 09 2002

don't take it personally, but there are WAAAY too many anti-Microsoft things in the Linux community already. That doesn't teach anyone about Linux or why it's better for them to use it, thus, making these sorts of things pointless. - Aug 06 2002

I agree with you about it sucking that posts rated under 20 get deleted/are not seen at all. I also agree that there should be much more commenting for things rated that low so people to improve. That said, I'm not a big fan of this wallpaper. Honestly, there's nothing really WRONG with it per se, it just seems a bit cluttered to me - I'm not a big fan of big text or text at all really on the wallpaper. Don't get me wrong though, it seems like something someone else might like - just not me. - Aug 02 2002

Wallpaper Other by Guch 2 comments

It's cool to see someone trying hard to make nice wallpapers. A lot of people are gonna tell you all these are are Gimp tricks and anyone can do it. Don't take this the wrong way, but this is true. Doesn't take away from the fact some might like them though. I chose to post on this one because this is the one that I am not satisfied with. The others are just fine - yes, they're simple and yes, there's not a lot of technical things in them, but they're fun and attractive. This one however, I wish you had taken a little more time with. The colors don't blend the best and it does need more than a simple black background with a flare and then save. Try to get a little more creative, but you have a good start going. I'm not much of an artistic guy, so I appreciate your work - maybe if you read a few docs on the Gimp it might give you some ideas on how to better utilize it. - Jul 12 2002

Hey, just because you don't like it you don't have to rip it apart. I happen to think the wallpaper is cute. Sure, it's not all fancy and impressively done like many other things here, but some people like things simple. And, sure, I could have taken a picture of tux and put text under it too - but I didn't and he did. So, I respect him for it and for his efforts. Thanks for an amusing wallpaper that my girlfriend will love :-) - Jul 12 2002

tell me if you get the silvery colors to work with it. As you can see by my screenshot, it doesn't work for me, so I'm stuck still using the Liquid style (not that it's bad) until I can find an anser to fixing Keramik :-\ - May 31 2002

This is what dahvaio told me earlier in the thread:

"You need to first go into the software manager and search for automake and remove that file.

Then download the newer version of automake1.5-1.5-1mdk.noarch.rpm

This file is in the same place that you got Mandrake 8.2 someplace like ftp.ibilio.org

Then install the automake and then try installing the keramik again."

This is what worked for me.

Not Another Liquid

KDE Plasma Screenshots by norman 6 comments

If you like that look, that's great. But you've got to understand that for Linux to make a dent in the desktop it's got to look BETTER than Windows and Mac, not worse. The simple feel to what you have is very nice - but it's not the right one for most people. So, please understand that and rather than bash Keramik, Liquid, Crystalk and the like, recognize them as a step towards Linux on the average users desktop and embrace them as such - even if you don't like them personally. - May 30 2002

MORE! MORE! MORE! This is an incredibly original set of icons! I use Crystal right now so that it matches my mixture of Liquid and Keramik, but if you make a full set of these I just may have to change my window decorations to accomodate them! :-D And, yes, please do make them as vector graphics ;-) - May 29 2002
