I asked in the main yakuake comments and this is the reply I got:

Open $KDEHOME/share/config/yakuakerc (whre
$KDEHOME is $HOME/.kde or $HOME/.kde4 depending on
your Linux distro) in a text editor and remove the
line specifying the skin.

It worked for me, but make sure yakuake isn't running when you try it. - Apr 23 2012

worked like a charm! many thanks. - Feb 28 2012
when I first installed, I was looking around at the different skins. I installed a minimalist one that only had tabs, and now I can't get back into settings to change it back. I've uninstalled, done apt-get purge, everything I can think of (numerous times), but when I reinstall yakuake again, its still on the only-tabs skin. I checked in the skins directory of the app files (usr/share/kde4/apps/yakuake/skins), and the only ones it lists are the default 3 it comes with - default, plastik light and plastik dark. How on earth do I get rid of the skin? - Feb 27 2012
