Finally! A PDF Editor for opensource world.

Could you tell more on the SF or this page what major features are present.

Particularly, is basic page rotation, extraction and other page/order manipulations possible / planned?

Is it possible to create form fields that are "saveable" in normal Acrobat Reader?

What language is used for scripting?

If this program is what I think it is, I would love to help with any misc chores. - Jan 18 2007

Milo Calendar

Karamba & Superkaramba by milomurder 34 comments

Rainlendar is now available for Linux. It's a bit clunky on non-accelerated desktops, but it's alright.

The free version allows access to locally stored iCals. The commercial version allows remote calendars.

I am looking at it and wondering if trying to copy it is actually worth it at this time. In 1/2 KDE 4 will be kicking on the door and I'll have to redo 1/3 of the work. It seems like a big waste, considering I can just download the real thing and run it.

The other thing - SuperKaramba people are slowing down. They (Ryan, you there?) promissed to release v.40 - the properly unicoded version - separately a while ago. Didn't happen yet.

Soo, everything is now in maintenance mode. - Nov 11 2006

could you make the bubble images's background transparent instead of white ?

Alternatively, try Renkoo Adium style. It has pre-fabricated set of color bubbles with transparent outter areas - you can change the color of the background on it.

Unfortunately, you can't really redistribute Renkoo - the images are taken from a commercial project and they can't decide what license they want to assign to it. (I asked)

could you make the bubble images's background transparent instead of white ?

I think I understand what you are trying to do - hack in your own background.

Unfortunately, due to a design decision, the outter portion of the bubble HAS to be a solid color because the color of the bubble is color of the background behind the images.

Fortunately, I provided the sources of the image and the script for splitting it in the "sources" folder.

If you really want to change the color of the background outside of bubbles, just change the background layer color in the source and re-cut the image.

If you are having a problem, write to me. My address is on the profile page.

Just post a responce in the Slick2 forum. I like your sense of taste and drive to express them. Your comments are highly appreciated.

What happens when you doubleclick a kommander script on your machine? On Suse it opens up in an editor. Not exactly "fool-proof" experience.

for PARENA mostly:

The easiest way I see is use urllib2 module to just pull the iCal file and "mount" it through StringIO. Than parse through the rest of iCal.py as it will behave like a regular local file. The good thing about urllib2 - it seems to support authentication and some kinds of encryption. The bad side of it - you'll be bothered to implement UI for all of it. :)

I'll take a look at it sometime in very late august for Milo, but hope you get to it first and spread the goodness. - Aug 10 2006

I think, it would be nice, if the events from the next 7 days are showed in a list.

As I stated in the introduction - implementation of listing of events is postponed until milo learns to use Rainlendar skins. I am about 3/4 there and will update SVN in a few days.

I highly support you in your desire write an "Events" SuperKaramba theme. I will gladly use your code for Milo Calendar, when time comes to it. :)

I recommend contacting maintainers of other Calendar or Todo/TaskList SuperKaramba themes. You can use the iCal.py (BSD license) module, which both milo and dbKalendar use for reading iCal files. Start with dbKalendar maintainer, and see if you can pull parts out of http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6251

Tasty Menu

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by mart 499 comments

There is only one thing that is missing - instantaneous appearance of Run dialog when chosen from Tasty Menu.

Hitting Alt-F2, or choosing Run Command in original K menu brings the Run Command immediately. It is apparently cached. Hitting Run COmmand in Tasty results in harddrive activity , and prolonged wait for Run Command.

(It seems doing the search also thrashes the harddrive. In Suse's version of K-Menu search/filter - no HD activity whatsoever.)

I didn't want to request caching for these thing, as they are much more difficult to implement than just putting the Run field in directly.

As for "smallness" of the field, your average KDE command is 3-8 chars long. Not a problem.

Until Tasty is optimized for data caching, and relys on HD instead, I would prefer at least a NON-default option for replacing Run with actual Run field.

Until you said "Mac" I couldn't quite figure you out.

There are 2 things at play here. To use this applet you need:
1. SuperKaramba (that is why the section is called Karamba) desktop widget layer of
2. KDE Desktop environment. (Which is why the site is called KDE-look.org)

I have seen some portions of KDE run on Mac, but, as you guessed, it is pretty much Linux / BSD land.

I was trying to be conservative and added this in because I am more concerned with people like me - who use old hardware. The folder is searched EVERY time the photo is changed. This is done to incorporate additions into the slideshow cycle.

The other, bigger, concern - if folder-tree has circular "hard" links, we will be parsing the folder tree forever.

Arggg!!! [proceeds to tear his hair out]

There is SO MUCH that needs fixing in order to work with Unicode:
- karamba.drag() doesn't work, but we can always use Open dialog right?
- Open dialog gives us "locally-encoded" strings and I can only guess from LANG= what that is. But we still can convert it into Unicode based on LANG value and be happy right?
- Karamba config, os.popen, and may other places crap out on pure unicode. And I have to encode the string properly for every command.
- At the same time, karamba's load* functions require only properly unicoded paths..

There is no fricken end to this! We'll have to rewrite a large portion of path storage and configuration code.

Well, Unicode paths are becoming a real pain.

The initial culprit was Karamba's itemDropped function. To bypass that I added an Open File dialog, which works, but Karamba's writeConfigEntry() function doesn't seem to accept Unicode either... That could be fixed with encoding of config entries into ASCII, but it's entirely too much hustle considering I would like to replace the current config storage mechanism some time in the future.

My apologies, but at this time, I don't think the result justifies the huge spending of time. Unless someone else fixes this issue before, I'll take care of it in about a month or two. - Jul 04 2006

I tried to live with QtCurve for a while but found it to be a bit more "unnatural" (than on Lipstik, for example) in some respects.

One example - Tabs. The active tab bends away from the viewer, towards the background. The inactive tabs stand straight and look like they actually are active. The highlighting on the active tab doesn't help a bit in fixing the situation.

It seems the race for "buty" has outdone the practicality of the theme. Someone who can make decisions has to conduct a "naturalistic" audit of the theme. - Jun 15 2006
