This is a very slick theme... but the half-assed support for GTK2 is a deal-breaker. There are still very, very many applications using GTK2. All of XFCE is actually still GTK2. So as much as I'd like to use it, I can't. :( - Feb 19 2013

When it comes to Xfce, if you set a color scheme, it will be used on any GTK theme you select, and there's no facility in the settings programs to mess with the color schemes. So if you want to stop using zonColor, you'll need to use the xfconf editor to unset xsettings/Gtk/ColorScheme. - Jan 07 2013

No problem. I'm glad I could help! :)

If I may make a couple of other suggestions while I have your ear, I'm not a fan of the super-thick treeview headers. I think a ythickness of 1 for them looks much better.

In addition, the recent release of Thunar eliminated the border width on its gtkhpaned, so we can now theme it without it looking stupid. You should enable the fm_view style on widget_classes *Thunar*View* and *Thunar*Pane*, enable fm_sidebar on *ThunarShortcutsView* and *ThunarTreeView*, and enable fm_handle on *Thunar*HPaned.

Enabling fm_statusbar on *ThunarStatusbar* ALMOST looks good... the resize grip doesn't get themed right, though. If you can figure it out, it'd look great, but you'd also want to change the scrollbar trough to @base_color and I was never able to figure out how to fine-tune scrollbar trough colors. Maybe you'd have better luck. :) - Jan 04 2013

That is, in order for the color change to take effect on the window theme, you have to switch it to something else then back to zoncolor. - Jan 03 2013

GTK3 Themes by zonsaja 72 comments

It seems that XFCE actually can set color schemes. I tried out this program here http://www.webupd8.org/2012/09/customize-gtk3-gtk2-theme-colors-using.html because I knew I remembered there was some way to do it, and it worked. So I investigated the source.

It turns out that by setting the xfconf property /Gtk/ColorScheme in channel xsettings, you can define a color scheme. I just modified the zcsscommon script to support this, and it worked perfectly! The only kink is that the window theme must be switched to and from zoncolor for the change to take effect. - Jan 03 2013

This is exactly the kind of thing I wanted my old theme Flow to become. I stopped working on Flow entirely when GTK3 hit and when it became a huge pain in the butt to keep up with every release since the GNOME devs wanted to break everything each time. I can rest easy now knowing there's a successor, and one that's waaaay better than my old theme anyways.

Now, if I may offer some advice. Perhaps to enable color scheme support for XFCE, you could generate a gtk theme and hardcode its colors. XFCE's lack of color scheme support is irritating to be sure, but this should work around it. - Jan 02 2013

This is a fantastic theme. I've even started using it in place of my own theme Flow since I am probably never going to update it for GTK3. ^.^;;

That said, there's one little niggling detail that's bothering me; the ythickness of popup menus is inconsistent between GTK2 and GTK3. GTK3 has no ythickness; and GTK2 appears to have about 3. Please make this consistent? The rest of the theme's consistency is absolutely *stelllar.* - May 03 2012

I like it, however, like the Faenza-Variants set, the icons don't fit in with the official set at certain sizes. I compared the MonoDevelop icons at 32px and 24px. 32px checked out, but 24px was wrong.

When I called out the same thing on Faenza-Variants, there was no response at all nor any effort to correct it. I would hope you would go the extra mile here to correct this.

Regardless, it's a nice start, and since I don't have a 24px panel anymore, I can go on using it. - Apr 20 2011

I'd like to applaud your efforts, but unfortunately, the icons don't actually fit in with the rest of Faenza: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11745544/variants.png I'm sure you can see where the inconsistencies are. Still, A for effort. - Nov 26 2010

These aren't really usable unless you include the other icon sizes... otherwise, they won't look consistent at different icon sizes or will get scaled down whereas others won't. - Nov 06 2010

Or maybe a bug. I dunno.

When a window is given the skip taskbar hint after its creation, it is not removed from the dockbar. I don't think this is a problem for Compiz, but for any other window manager in combination with Devil's Pie, it doesn't work as expected. - Aug 19 2010

Also, I would like to request a distributor logo for Arch.

Never mind my prior weather icon request; the xfce weather applet isn't themeable, and as a result, I didn't know you already did them. So I'm using gnome's in an xfapplet instead. - Aug 14 2010

So. I see this icon theme becoming a mainstay in my future. But for now, I need to stick to Gnome-Colors due to missing pieces. So, if I may, I'd like to make a few requests, in order of my own personal priority:

-Application icons: Quod Libet, Ex Falso, MonoDevelop, Glade, Mirage, Pinta, AbiWord, Gnumeric, Orage, GJiten, Xfce Notes Plugin
-Panel icons: Pidgin, Xfce Power Manager Xfce Volume Manager, weather icons. You can actually theme Pidgin's tray icons now, like this: http://bit.ly/9N4Ya0
-Emblems. I make extensive use of emblems 'cos I don't know what the right way to get those spiffy folder icons is on XFCE. :P If you could get all the ones that Gnome-Colors has, that'd be great.
-Menu icons for dark menus, perhaps? Configurable in the install script? Otherwise, I can probably just invert them with imagemagick.

So, yeah. Sorry for the big request list. Good job on such a great theme! :D - Aug 12 2010

I think I have an idea what you're trying to ask. Fibrous uses the theme's selected background color for its decorations. Since you've turned off the dark menu, you ought to comment all of the decoration modules while you're at it. The decoration modules' purpose is to make decorations blend with the menu bar. It shouldn't affect fibrous, but might as well be safe.

Anyways, as for what you're trying to ask. Do you want the panels to match your window decorations? I could make a module for that pretty easily for the next release. - Aug 04 2010
Flow

GTK2 Themes by TiZ 33 comments

Yeah, if you want to enable or disable a certain module, all it takes is commenting or uncommenting. If you just wanted to change the color of the dark parts of the theme... well, I don't think GNOME's appearance properties can change the symbolic colors I use. You can change them in the gtkrc, though. That's how XFCE users have to do it for every color of the theme. ;)

dark_bg_color and dark_fg_color control what colors the dark parts of the theme are. The frame_color and inactive_frame_color ones are specific to Chrome.

So. When you ask about changing the color of the gnome panel according to the skin's color... which color are you talking about? If you disable the dark panel module, it will be the bg_color. If you want the color of the panel to be the selected_bg_color, that's not supported yet. But assuming you're not using any dark widgets in your customized theme, you can just change the dark colors to whatever you want to use and turn on the dark panel module. - Aug 04 2010

It seems that you really are using the same mistake that I thought mrmars was making.

I don't know if I'm just in a highly irritated mood or what, but I feel the need to make this perfectly clear, both to you and to everyone:

Murrine's development version has not been in SVN for MONTHS! It moved to GIT, months ago!

Install from git and try again, please. - May 31 2010

Not the latest version by far, but I do know what's wrong. One unknown option, and the entire theme goes down.

The cellstyle option used in theme-default.rc was added on 3/25, two days after the revision you have. But it doesn't actually seem to do anything, so I've commented it out and re-uploaded it. You don't actually need to re-download it, just go to theme-default.rc in the Flow-Common folder and comment out cellstyle = 0 on line 142. - May 15 2010

No, even if you don't have the Shiki-Colors Metacity, the GTK theme should still work.

Here's what I noticed in your post. You said you got murrine from svn. Murrine was moved to a git repository some time ago. You can probably still get the svn version, but it's waaaay behind. Make sure you're using the git version instead of the svn version. - May 14 2010

Awesome. I'll need to re-tar the icon themes too, then.

I didn't know the appearance properties dialog would do that. I'll definitely modify the instructions to specify that.

To make the panel menu items bigger, you can change the panel-menu size in the GtkIconSizes for the theme you're using. I think that'll work.

Thank you very much! :) - May 14 2010

...not to enable rgba for Thunar, xfce4-panel, et al? I'd actually like to enable it for them, and according to what I have set up in my rgba.conf (mostly the same as your first example), those programs should have it enabled. But it shows up in my .xsession-errors that rgba for them is disabled. - Mar 31 2009
