QtiPlot

Science by vasilief 347 comments

Hi,

I am looking for a good scientific plotting program and I think qti plot would be something that would fit what I need. I just can't compile it. I compiled qwt-0.4.1 and set the path in the Makefile but there are include files missing (qwt_graph.h for example). I found this on the web and put it in the include directory and that error went away only to be replaced by another involving QwtArrays. I have a feeling that your program is really good (I liked the setup of Origin but I hated the crashes) so I would like to give a try. It would be nice if you could make it easier to install. Thanks,

kdetv

I used kwintv regularly and I'am quite happy with it. The only thing I don't understand is why you keep changing the name. It went from kwintv to qtvision to kdetv. I think it just confuses the end user.

I like that you fixed the fullscreen mode so it's actually fullscreen now but the audio selection is broken in the latest version I installed from CVS. Autoselect doesn't work so on some channels I cannot get the main audio. I assume this will be fixed in the final release. - Mar 26 2004

This was not a problem of font size. Regardles of the font size if you just kept clicking on the theme it would remember the date of the first click as long as the edit menu stayed on the screen. I fixed this in the bugfix I just posted. Thanks for pointing this out.

I still don't know what's wrong. But this theme run well for every day of 2003 and since January 1st it crashes. And it kills all other running superkaramba themes.

I just came back from my vacation and noticed this. Regarding the fact that other themes go down with mine. If you start all your themes with a separate superkaramba call only my theme should crash and the other ones should work fine.

Is there a known bug? Otherwise I will try to get more information.

Now I know about it :). I guess I had to wait for the New Year to see it. I will try to fix this bug this weekend and update the theme since I am using it every day.

I am glad somebody is using this theme since the rating seems to be tanking lately :).

Happy New Year!

There are problems if I reduce the font size. If I do it, all my clicks popup a menu for 31 December and not for the day I clicked.

I was busy in December so I wasn't checking the comments. I'll look into this.

Liquid Weather ++

Karamba & Superkaramba by Matti 1797 comments

I had the same problem. For me it got resolved when I turned off the cycle-through workaround in the config.

It's nice that Matti added the webcams and the radar image. I can't see what more you can add to this theme :). - Sep 10 2003

I downloaded the latest version and it finally works (I run SuSE 8.2 and superkaramba 0.31). I had problems setting the location (got similar problems as other people have mentioned before, Wellington...) but your new config option (find location) seems to have fixed this. The theme is really good looking and functional. Thanks for the good work. - Sep 03 2003

I like your theme. It's clean :) and it's pretty usefull. While the OS X bar (and it's karamba clones) look nice I don't find them that functional and I prefer something closer to your design. It would be nice if you could make this into a panel with small startup icons. - Jun 11 2003

Thanks. You can minimize the theme (only the current month is shown at the left edge of the screen) if you click on the top of the theme (where the months names are) or if you click the middle mouse button. - Jun 11 2003

Unfortunately I think this is is either a superkaramba or python problem. A couple of themes I can't get to work on my machine at work even though they work perfectly on my computer at home (no error messages, no crashes). Both computers have SuSE 8.0 running and superkaramba 0.26 compiled. I am not sure what I did to python trying to get some karamba stuff to work (and I think this is the problem). One problem was reported in other superkaramba themes (one of the news or weather themes) and it has to do with the time module not loading properly. There is a patch for this that I could put in the main python script but the problem is that I also load the calendar module which also tries to load the time module so this doesn't work.

From what you are saying though, it doesn't seem like you have this problem. The liquid weather theme does the same thing on my work computer. It loads doesn't display anything and crashes when moused over and I don't know why (I could post the error messages if somebody is interested in seeing them).

If somebody know how to fix this mess I would appreciate the help. Thanks. - Jun 09 2003

You have to install superkaramba and run it with

superkaramba schedule.theme

You can get superkaramba here:

I Installed this theme today, and thoug it takes a lot of place in my 1024x768 Desktop

If you click on the row with the month names, or if you click the middle button the theme minimizes to the current month and goes to the left side of the desktop. You can't see any of the entries however - for that you have to maximize.

I made this theme because I wanted a calendar that blanked out past days (I couldn't find one that did this and I really want this feature - I want to see time pass by....). The rest of it grew out just because the theme was sitting on my desktop anyway.

Are more features planned?

I am pretty busy these day but I will try to add some things during the weekend. Editing of entries (now you have to delete and reenter), resizing of the popup :)...

It didn't work. Do I need to put the locals().update(globals()) call in only one function after the globals definition or in all functions? Do other functions have to have at least some global definitions? - May 27 2003

I am trying to compile supercaramba on SuSE 8.0 with no success. It doesn't link and breaks at the same point as djwilly described for Debian except his dirty fix doesn't work for me. Did somebody compile it for SuSE 8.0 and did you have to do anything special? - Apr 21 2003

Try changing all Makefile-s according to the instructions (add the include and library lines). There is a Makefile not only in src but in the main directory of the archive and a couple of other directories (grep -r Makefile *). This got me past the Python.h error but after some time compiling make exits with an error complaining it couldn't find a bunch of functions. Does anybody else know how to fix this? I am using SuSE 8.0 with Python 2.2.2 and python-devel installed from a random rpm gotten of the web (maybe this is a problem). I really want to try superkaramba :). - Apr 20 2003

Do you have one without the KDE logo (just the scanlines). I have a calendar that I overlay over my wallpaper so I would like to do this with this background to. I might write a script which updates the date on the calendar every day and post that here. The only thing I don't know how to do is make KDE refresh the wallpaper. - Feb 10 2003
