But if you have more specific needs, you’ll either love KMess and dislike Kopete, or visa vera.
Both applications have a difference audience:
– Kopete is used by people who need to use multiple protocols.
– KMess is used by people who like to have an client optimized for *all* features of *one* protocol.
There are users coming from MS Windows who like to have an MSN client as they’re used to, and preferably better.
This is what KMess offers, and it’s seriously a reason why people switch (or didn’t switch before).
We’re making a MSN Protocol lbrary, which will allow Kopete developers to improve Kopete too if they like to ;) - Mar 11 2010

I've tried to use this applet to translate from NL -> English. Each time I reopen the applet, the language is reset to French -> English unfortunately. Could you fix this issue?
Thanks a lot! :)

Things I expect from a sniffer tool:
- set a filter on ports
- provide some default filters (e.g. www traffic)
- follow tcp streams
- identify common packets (e.g. HTTP GET, ARP who-has)
- identify different tcp streams.
- provide details for common protocols (e.g. plugin based) For instance I'd love to develop a msn plugin for it that adds descriptions to the various messages.
Nothing more nothing less :) - Feb 13 2007

About the KAction error, this looks a bit silly, doesn't it? :-p If you remove the --enable-phone stuff it compiles (skips that part). The kphone parameter doesn't do anything at the moment. - Sep 29 2005

There are a lot of interesting features we could implement. Too bad I have to make a choice now. I have some other msn protocol features planned too. Hold on! ;-)
As for SIP support, it appears many projects incorporate the LinPhone source code in their projects. I have my vote for KCall (http://www.basyskom.de/index.pl/kcall) now, once they have a stable kde-based library we can used directly. :-) - Sep 02 2005

Just two thoughts:
- I think the left panel can be improved by using a "Qtoolbox". ie. it only shows the "Program Manager" expanded, and the "Search for programs" is displayed at the bottom. When you click on the "Search for programs" bar it scrolls up to the "Program manager" bar. Only one panel is fully visible. I hope I explained the widget right.
- One other question: do you have an solution to display a "detail" list in case a user finds many programs? The way YaST does this springs to my mind. - Jul 26 2005

I really love it to be a default thing for KDE. (especially considering the fact you already did the coding :-)) - Jul 26 2005
But this progress is not made by undoing what others build with sweat and tears. Perhaps an implementation was bad, but should we erase the entire idea for that alone?
KDE can move on by organizing widgets nicer, finding better layouts. Moving stuff to the place it should be. In your limited design people well eventually have needs for more features. Where will those be put? IMHO, it's a dead end. - Jul 26 2005

- the control center crashes.. :-(
- the style does not display the "what is this button" well when it's moved to the right side.
- all new styles use a "configure" button as of kde 3.2 (or 3.3?) AKDC still displays all configuration options in the main dialog.
I hope you can fix these issues. But this doesn't stop me from using this style already.. because it looks awsome!! and gives my desktop a refreshing look!!

Well, why add another column for it? Could you ignore/remove the [num] part?
> it seems that only Cron process
> use this kind of special thing.
At my system, gpm, nmbd, sshd, xinetd, kdm_config, hotway seam to do the same thing. I believe the number just represents the process/thread number the event was fired from. That's why I think this information can be ignored in a "aggegrator" kind-of-thing like KSystemLog is. - Jun 21 2005

System Software by lastnico 117 comments
I think it has a lot of potential. It still has room for improvement, e.g:
- detect and mark common errors
- explain standard messages
- parse common lines, like iptable/cron/auth lines
- parse distro-stuff like SuSE's SFW2-* prefixes for iptables.
- detect log files automatically
In other words: make sure log files can be read efficiently and errors can be spotted quickly (like sysadmins can in the Windows 2000 event log) :-) I wish I could help you, but I have another project running myself.
One other thing: the process column often shows stuff like cron[435] cron [14412], etc... Could you detect this "thread identifier"? - Jun 20 2005

For example, KMail has a big dialog like "[subject] [contains] [text]", but it's all very complex to use (have to think a lot), and I can never find what I'm looking for. I tend to use the search-bar at the main window nowadays, and I'm a great fan of it. It's leaner, minimalistic, and easier to use.
I remember MS Outlook Express uses a sort-of friendly way to create message filters. It has a text box with a reasonable english-like sentence. e.g. "For messages with the subject (your text, as url), do the following: (action as url)". The variable parts of the sentence are hyperlinks, and clicking them popups of the choices, or text-input forms.
Maybe this is useful your you? - May 09 2005

The most great feature of the SuSE menu:
- if you have one webbrowser installed, you'll have a "Internet/Web browser" icon.
- if you have 2 browsers installed, you'll have a "Internet/Web browser/" menu :) - Apr 24 2005

Copy the /opt/kde3/share/apps/kdelibs/admin/ folder over the admin folder of the project. Then run Make -f makefile.dist (or something like that) again, and re-run configure.
Good luck! - Apr 04 2005
