Something's broken on the voting. I voted "good" and the rating score went down. I even double-checked the location in my address bar, and confirmed I did indeed vote "good". I swear this has happened a couple other times in the past few days too. Sorry =/. - Dec 27 2007

I suggest people who want to try this CD use virtualization software such as VMWare or VirtualBox instead of real hardware. It seems too finicky otherwise. I've tried previous releases on both VMWare and VirtualBox with success, though the live CD has other issues as well... - Sep 17 2007

I haven't personally rated your background, but I can tell you one thing that is probably getting you poor ratings. I know there are a lot of linux users that visit this site that are sensitive to licensing issues. Just because linux is free / open source does not mean that anything goes in terms of licenses. I would be willing to bet that you do not have the rights to redistribute the source image you used, especially not as GPL. I didn't vote, but I would be tempted to vote bad for this reason alone. People need to understand what they are doing with copyrighted material. Just because other people on the internet ignore copyright issues does not make it right. My two cents. - Jun 30 2007

I won't personally have much use for this application in the near future (haven't done any audio editing in 5 years), but I have to say I am very impressed with the speed of your development -- You are cruising! It's wonderful to see feature-rich multimedia apps under development for Linux. This OS has been hurting in the multimedia department for a very long time. Keep up the great work! - Jun 13 2007

Kudos to you on a potentially wonderful application. I'm generating a test DVD with it right now. However, my one gripe is with your extensive use of custom colors in the interface. I think the app would be much more aesthetically pleasing without all of the funky background colors in the dialogs. Aside from that, your app is functionally pretty good. Keep up the great work! - May 14 2007

My most sincere apologies! I really like your application, but I accidentally clicked "bad" instead of "good", knocking its rating down. I really with that the * websites would allow a user to change their vote. They already try to track votes in order to stop people from voting multiple times on the same app, so they should allow the option to change a vote. It would help when idiots like me click the wrong link, or when newer versions of an app fix bugs and add features, causing a change of opinion by the rater. Oh well </rant>, thanks for you work on this IDE and sorry for the bad vote! - Apr 07 2007

You should also be able to take a screenshot using imagemagick's 'import' command from a virtual terminal (ctrl+alt+F1, login, change to superuser, import, etc.), but I'm not sure. I'd try it if you can't get Xnest to work properly. - Oct 23 2006

The idea itself is a fun one. However, the tux image you used looks like it was originally much smaller. Since tux is the focus of the image, I'd suggest using (with permission) one of the svg tux images that have been posted here and rendering it to a large size. Your wallpaper might get a more positive response if tux looked better. - Jul 23 2006

I just can't understand the hatred people show towards Bill Gates. I've been using Linux for a very long time (still have my Slack 3.0 CD somewhere around here) and love the operating system. However, I've never hopped on the anti-Microsoft bandwagon because it's unjustified. Windows is wonderful for the typical computer user. Until average joe doesnt-know-a-thing-about-computers can operate a Linux distribution without intervention from experienced Linux users, I'm going to be happy to recommend Windows to the non-savvy. And as for Bill Gates, the man might be making boatloads of money, but he has does an excellent job in establishing the Gates Foundation charity. The Gates Foundation gave out $1.36 billion in 2005 alone. I'm sure you're just having fun with your image, but I have to say I honestly think it a tad childish. - Jul 21 2006

I don't care about the nudity, but if you're going to claim it as art, do a decent job on the artwork. The only way it belongs on kde-look is if it is related to linux or kde. You people who slap the word "linux" onto an image and call it artwork are seriously lacking talent. You would be better off not submitting anything, than submitting such a poor piece of "artwork" when you already know you're going to get others up in arms for the nudity alone. - Apr 01 2006

System Software by Sho 1027 comments

Hello, I am not sure if anyone else has suggested this yet, but it would be nice to add the option of monitoring the top border of the desktop for mouse movement so that yakuake can pop down when the mouse hits the very top of the screen. Hitting a key on the keyboard is fine, but it would be nice to be able to access yakuake with only the mouse. I know it seems odd to request a mouse-only feature for something that focuses on console usage (and so logically heavily keystroke-oriented), but often times I'm monitoing compile processes in a console and have no intention of typing a command when I click a console window. - Oct 04 2005

Excellent work. The only criticism is that I feel the addition of the real firefox logo and the firefox text cheapens your artwork. It seems like an afterthought explanation. Karamba & Superkaramba by ogetbilo 289 comments

My guess would be that there is a conflict with superkaramba's own dcop server. If I get some more time tonight I'll look into it some more, but for now, if I were you I would look into gettins dcoppython working. I personally always felt pykde's dcop workings were ugly. - Mar 08 2005

Karamba & Superkaramba by ogetbilo 289 comments

Okay, I looked things over in the python/dcop world, and it appears that pykde is broken with kdelibs-3.3.2, which is what most people use. Also, it was never a very elegant solution for dcop anyway. That being said, I would recommend grabbing dcoppython (a part of kdebindings) and use that instead. I was playing with it, and things are much simpler using dcoppython. For example, a simple python script to check the name of the current track playing in amarok would be:

import pcop
import pydcop

dcopclient = pydcop.anyAppCalled ("amarok")
print dcopclient.player.title()

or to seek:

All in all, it is much more straightforward than messing with pykde's dcop ever was. Hope this helps :) - Mar 08 2005

I am so glad you added in the pykde support! I let multiplayer die after its release due to time constraints, and I never got a chance to update it with any of the features I had planned. Your soundmania is exactly the type of karamba theme I had in mind when I was toying around with my own project. The only thing I was missing in soundmania was native dcop calls. With that added, this project is perfect. Kudos! Keep up the good work! - Mar 07 2005

First off, I love kdocker -- Awesome app! Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it doesn't seem to pick-up on gtk-gnutella's icon. When I minimize gtk-gnutella to the system tray, it shows up as a blank spot. I've tried manually setting the icon from the system tray menu, but it still doesn't work. It *does* show the icon when I right-click on the system try entry by the "Show Gtk-Gnutella" option, but not in the actual system tray. I don't know if this helps or not, but the icon for gtk-gnutella is a 48x48 pixmap. Anyway, thank you for an awesome program. - Feb 25 2005
