Parabolic zooming is a TODO, and will be implemented in a next release.
Right now I'm focusing on usability first, will then look at adding a bit more of eyecandy. :)

Thank you for taking the time to comment, for your suggestions and feedback.

Hi there. Glad you had that issue solved. A new release will correct some resizing/repositioning issues that might occur in KDE 4.3.

The miniature previews need to be enabled in the Configuration window > "Appearance" > "Show tooltips on launchers" > "Window thumbnail". Miniatures will only show when composite is enabled (like for panel task manager).

Hi there.

Daisy has auto-hiding. Right-click on the dock > Daisy settings > Hiding tab > Select "Hide automatically". It will hide itself X seconds after the cursor leaves the dock, and reappear when the cursor moves over the area where the dock was.

To have it "pop over the windows" is bit more complicated to do in Plasma, and it will require the use composite. That's a bit hard for me to implement, as my system cannot handle composite that well... :/ It has been requested on a number of occasions, and it's a TODO. :)

Regards and thank you for taking the time to comment.

Sounds like a good idea and not very complicated to implement. Will try to include this for next version.

Sorry for not being able to update Daisy yet guys, implementing the new taskbar feature has proven to be a little more time consuming than I've calculated. Will update as soon as it gets completed. Thank you for the patience.

Hi there.
To be able to compile Daisy from source a few development packages are needed. What system are you running?
The packages needed for compilation on Kubuntu are named:
kdebase-workspace-dev
kdelibs5-dev

There's also the possibility of installing a binary package, which eliminates the need for compilation.

To a taskmanager, a program running but hidden (minimized to system tray) does not exist. Daisy behaves as a task manager for the launchers that are available on the dock.
Currently Daisy does not come with system tray integration, but yes this will change in future releases, it's a TODO.

The option of removing the trash plugin is currently only available when on linear dock role, that will be changed and that option will also be added to circular dock role.

The mini icons that appear on top of launchers are called "action launchers", right-click on the launcher > "Edit launcher..." and configure the "action launchers" there. The trash plugin "action launcher" is used to empty the trashcan. This "action launcher" from the trash plugin is not configurable.

I hope to improve it and make it a lot better than it currently is, with the help of everyone that wishes to contribute. Current releases are only alphas, more options will be added and changes will be done.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. :)

Plasma 4 Extensions by Lechio 573 comments

Hi there.
That is correct, the amount of launchers for circular dock role is currently limited to 9 launchers, in linear dock role the limit is 30 launchers. This may change in future versions of Daisy to allow the inclusion of more launchers for circular dock role.

The 9 launchers in circular dock role can be extended, by using "action launchers". Right-click on a launcher > "Edit launcher..." and select enable action launcher, there a new task can be added do that same launcher. After configuring the launcher, a small icon will be displayed on top of the launcher when hovering over it.

That sure makes things more clear. I believe it is related to the way the program is launched using krun. This only happens with the firefox launcher, correct?
Will look into fixing it for this next release.

In the space of two days Daisy got down rated by two points.

I'd like to ask the person (or people) who vote bad on a widget to please explain the reason of the voting, and post here. That way I can improve/correct the widget. This would be of great help.

Plasma 4 Extensions by Lechio 573 comments

Hi there.
Thank you for commenting.
At its current stage (Alpha release) Daisy still lacks some features to make it an advanced dock/panel with the potential of replacing the default panel. These features are being added as we go along, with the contribution of everyone that uses this applet. It's not a final nor complete release, far from that, it only has a couple of months of development.

In reply to your question and speaking for myself, it does not entirely replace the need for a panel, it is something complementary to the panel (see screenshot #3) as it still doesn't have a system tray or complete "task manager" capabilities (implementing this feature at the moment).
Traditional task manager, in my opinion, is flawed by design and less "natural" in use. Icon launchers in a dock make more sense and are far more intuitive.

To reply to your other question, yes I do evidently use it every day. :)

Task manager available in a few days.
With "system tray integration" you mean having the possibility to display the system tray in Daisy? If so, the system tray is actually just a plasma applet, like others. It's possible do add it, after turning Daisy into a real container.

Right now the point would be to have Daisy as a "stable" applet ( although it's still in alpha stage ), would like to have it usable, so people can use it right-away without any major inconveniences. - Jul 13 2009

It's doable. In theory it is possible to add any kind of applet to a container, like it is done in panel. Just have to implement that in Daisy. Might take some time to do it.

Plasma 4 Extensions by Lechio 573 comments

That's very weird. No widget adds itself to the desktop let alone sets itself as the desktop background.

With you had you mean that it behaved like this in versions previous to the current one (0.0.4.18), correct?
Currently it is not possible to use Daisy as the desktop background. The widget is defined as being a panel containment. You can check this by looking into the file "plasma-applet-daisy.desktop", where it reads:

X-KDE-ServiceTypes=Plasma/Applet,Plasma/Containment
X-Plasma-ContainmentCategories=panel

Daisy

Plasma 4 Extensions by Lechio 573 comments

It should not behave like that at all. The only way Daisy would display as a desktop would be if it was configured to do that from the "Appearance Setting" > "Type", see image:
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4355/snapshot9a.jpg
Always with user input, not on its own.

You say you've downloaded and installed Daisy 0.0.4.18 from source and it can still behave as a desktop container, that's absolutely impossible. I've removed that possibility in this version.

The widget does not hijack anything, it's working for me and for everyone else who helps in the testing.

To remove Daisy from the plasma workspace all you need to do is this (already posted in the previous page):

Just edit your plasma-applets config file and remove the Daisy entry:

- open a terminal;
- type: "kquitapp plasma";
- type: "kwrite ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-appletsrc";
- search for: "plasma_applet_daisy";
- delete that configuration section;
- save the file and close kwrite;
- type: "plasma";

Normal desktop should now be used as background.

Plasma 4 Extensions by Lechio 573 comments

So you right-clicked on the desktop, chose "Appearance settings" and in the "Type" entry chose to use Daisy as the desktop, correct?
The option to have Daisy as the desktop background was a "bug" and is now fixed in this current release. To fix this behavior all you had to do was to read a previous post to find the answer.
Download the new version and install it, then restart your plasma workspace.

And please do not post here saying my work is a virus. This is not the place for that, my work is open sourced, meaning everyone can read it, change it, distribute it.

It would be possible. But a server would be needed for the applet to connect to and check for updates. At the moment I don't have the possibility to provide that type of service.

Settings for a Plasma applet are stored in the plasma applets configuration file:
~/.kde/share/config/plasma-appletsrc

Open the file with a text editor and search for "daisy". The file should have a section similar to this (possibly with a different number in the header):

[Containments][1][Applets][37]
(...)
plugin=plasma_applet_daisy
(...)

Search for the header. The configuration for Daisy are the values that come after the section (in this case):

[Containments][1][Applets][37][Configuration]

Here's a sample of my current config:

acceptdrops=true
activity=
autohide=false
background_opacity=1
click_effect_type=default
click_effects=false
desktop=-1
draw_icoback=true
floating=false
formfactor=0
geometry=303,954,672.823529411765,70
hidingdelay=3000
icodimension=50
icospacing=0.41
immutability=2
(...)

Save those vales to a text file. To restore them again, with Daisy added to the desktop open the config file, from a console run "kquitapp plasma" copy>paste the saved values to the appropriate Daisy configuration section in the file and run "plasma" again.

Hope this helps. Thank you. :)

Must be a portuguese thing. Sure I'll take that drink offer, a bottle of Don Perignon next time I go to Leiria. ;)

It could be done, but it wouldn't be very true to Plasma. To display the thumbnails we use the Plasma/KDE libs, so that option will have to come from KWin.

Previews for running tasks instead of icons is a TODO.

Plasma 4 Extensions by Lechio 573 comments

And have something like 10 thumbnails showing? X) That doesn't sound like a very good idea. The panel behaves the same way and it doesn't show thumbnails when there are multiple instances of an application (when tasks are grouped). Also Daisy uses the Plasma thumbnail system, that means only one thumbnail can be shown, we could reimplent it, like it is done on STasks, but that would not be very true to Plasma/KDE.

Sure, that one is a TODO and will soon be implemented.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. :)

True. Sure beats doing all of those from scratch and including them on Daisy, when those plugins are already available for Plasma. At first I was thinking of doing just that (trash plugin as an example), but it's a lot more work. Containment choice is prefered. - May 30 2009

That feature is a big (and very important) TODO. I'm currently experimenting with the implementation. It will take some time, can't be precise on when it will be available.

One of the main reasons why I'm updating it so often is to get feedback for newly implemented options, and the usual bug reports. :)
