Daisy

Plasma 4 Extensions by Lechio 573 comments

That's what Daisy is about. Its launchers are hybrid, that means launchers can open the application or control the task when the application is already running. What isn't working for you? When you click the home launcher it doesn't open your home folder? By default that launcher is configured for konqueror but you can change it to work with dolphin if you prefer that file manager. Hi there.
I believe plasma offers the option of activating a widget with a key combination. But you don't really need to minimize all of the applications to access Daisy, in "Linear dock" role go to the hiding section and select "Hide only when a dock-hiding button is clicked". Et voilá, Daisy now behaves as a panel.

Thank you for the RPM.
Sure, it is possible to drag and drop icons from there. Or just browse to your applications directory (should be something like /usr/share/applications/kde4 depending on the system) and drag and drop to the dock from there (launcher may need additional configuration).

For the moment do like prasadae said, to have Daisy behave like a panel.
I hope to be able to implement the option of having Daisy on top of application windows, it's a feature that requires some work and time to find the best possible solution.

Starting to implement that option now. :)
Parabolic zooming should be available on a next release.

That option requires a bit of work. To do that, a system with composite enabled is needed (or we can fake it with a pixmap trick when no composite is available).
Still have to study that in detail and find the best alternative.

That looks to be related with the sensitivity of drag and drop. In previous version it was to high. That bug is now corrected, try the latest version and report back.

Thank you. :)
It is pretty much the beginning, a lot needs to be implemented and improved. I'm releasing as I work, without much testing, to have some feedback on the features implemented and also bug reports. Regards. - May 22 2009

The launchers in Daisy are hybrid, that means they can act as task managers too.
An option for controlling the tasks that are not available in form of a launcher will be added later on, maybe by having those tasks inside a drawer or by making previews of the currently running tasks in the dock.

So far auto-hide is only available for "Linear dock" role. But that's a very good idea. May give it a go at trying to implement it. :)

Right-click on the trash icon > "Remove trash plugin" (in Linear dock role). I've chosen not to implement that option in Circular dock role for the time being. Should be there on a next release.

To launch a new instance, right-click on the launcher > New instance. Middle-click on the launcher shades the application, and I'm not going to change that as I find that feature very useful. :)

Tooltips (when enabled) show how many instances of an application are running.

Previews of running windows may be added on a next release.

You need a C++ working install and the development packages of QT KDE/Plasma.
There are already binary packages of Daisy available, browse back. Will post those on the front-page as soon as it gets more stable.

On Kwin right-click on the window decoration of the program you want to know the alias of:
Configure Window Behavior > Window-Specific> New > Detect Window Properties.
That will show you the information about the application. It's the "Class" information you want to use as the alias, the value that is inside the brackets.

For WINE just pass the flag for the path in the command.

The alias for firefox is : "Navigator", the alias for inkscape is : "inkscape",

Don't know what program could be used to check that, the issue is with the programs themselves. They should pass their class name. KDE programs (with the exception of konsole when composite enabled) work great.

The issue related to the tooltips was a bug (small typo in the function responsible for saving the configs). It's now corrected, thank you for reporting it.

Plasma 4 Extensions by Lechio 573 comments

You have to configure the "alias" of the application in the launcher. For firefox I believe it is "Navigator".

konsole, in my way of seing it, is broken. It behaves normally when having the composite effects disabled, but reports as being "QT-subapplication" when the composite effects are enabled...

Update to latest release, see if tooltip settings are saved. Report back if they don't.

In this last version it is possible to change from "Circular dock" role to "Linear dock" role directly from the right-click menu.
Will work on the configuration window a bit and maybe re-define some options in it.

Sure, the reflections (and other features) will be added on a next release. Right now I'm trying to find and correct bugs and consolidate the code a bit.

The plasma applet moves a few inches from the corner so it can have space to show the handle. On daisy, when in "Linear dock" role, I've chosen to bypass (it's still available by selecting the "floating" checkbox) that feature as it doesn't have much use in a panel-like applet and a panel needs to be at the very corner of the screen. Furthermore, daisy can be locked/unlocked manually too, by right-click > "Lock Daisy".

If you still wish to compile it, you are missing "taskmanager.h". It's a header file that is part of the kde-dev package I believe. Regards. - May 14 2009

To configure the plasmoid on "Linear dock" role right-click on the free space of the dock's background (not on an icon).
The handle can also be present when on "Linear dock" role. Just open the configuration window and select the "Floating" checkbox.

Sure, it can have the info of the song playing (title, artist, time, cover, (...)). Will work on the Media controller role later on.

Cooperation of course. :)
I'm already using ideas and code from Fancy Tasks (and from a lot of other applets for that matter), we can cooperate indeed. Just throw me an e-mail.
Diversity is the key. It's good to have options.

You are missing the "taskmanager.h" header file. It comes with the kde-dev package I believe. Install that package so it can compile. - May 07 2009

It complains about the missing plasma packages. Install those. I'm using Ubuntu too. Search for "plasma" in your package manager and install that dev package. Will post links to Daisy binaries as soon as someone makes them. Thank you. - May 07 2009

Karamba & Superkaramba by Lechio 74 comments

That behaviour doesn't seem to happen with Kwin, so I'm guessing it could be an issue related with the window manager. As it is not related with this widget I have no advice to you on how to fix it, sorry.
Post this issue in the project's page, maybe they can provide some insight and a possible fix.
Best regards, Lechio.

It's possible to add other launchers, and edit the current ones. Just open the configuration window, go to advanced and configure the number of launchers from there.
Yes, will implement the option of having it on different corners of the screen for next version.
The cashew type of interface has already been requested, and should hopefully be added for next version.
