KBFX Silk (KBFX 0.4.9.3.1)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by sirajr 612 comments

Thanks very much for the issues listed.
As announced this is an alpha realese that is for our most impatient users in order for them to see what will KBFX look like.
Most of the things you say are present but have to be configured in a text file.
Totally right about the configure options....but the configure application is being developed (I mean new features added to it).
We will have in mind all your proposals too. - Jan 18 2007

First how did you compile it?
Second did you remove any old versions of KBFX and RELOGGIN KDE?
Third what is the output of "locate libkbfxplasma.so" (i.e. where is libkbfxplasma.so situated and where are the kdelibs? - Jan 18 2007

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by sirajr 612 comments

Sorry @janet,
The behavior of the kicker resizing now has been changed (in the 0.4.9.2rc3 release - just see the configuration on page "Start Button").
And as for the small fonts/configapp dialog - well this will change in 0.4.9.5 - the user will have total control over sizes. Untill then don't forget that there are users whose screen resolution is 800x600 so a bigger dialog box is not an option for them... Anyway we will try to optimize the size of the dialogs in the next release...
Sorry again and thank you for your criticism, 'cause we need a lot of it in order to make KBFX to conform to all your expectations. :) ;) - Nov 05 2006

That is a very nice theme. I like especially the selector for the apps.
I think that the logout and lock button should be more self-explanatory, 'cause now the user won't know which is which :) - Jul 31 2006

The picture of the castle is very nice....
I think Nathanael is not fully right - there r a lot of people that like this kind of things...
I think that the gray at the bottom does not fit well to the whole colors..
Maybe something more bluish at the bottom:)
But after all it is nice, and I am not an artist to evaluate the harmony of colour :)
Keep on the good work... - Jul 30 2006

>> ... I guess there'll be a captorial ready by the weekend covering compilation of both packages...

I don't want to be rude, but what you need is not a tutorial but a better autotools scripting.
The compilation of "libinstrudeo" is making too much errors when the needed headerfiles/libraries are not in their usual place, and in order to make it work one needs a lot of changes in the environment variables and the autotool configuration of the package....
I quitted trying to compile it and even didn't got to the point of configuring/compiling the ScreenKast app.
And just a friendly advice - when an app needs a library that comes with it - well the best thing to do is to state that clearly and both to be downloaded from one and the same place (meaning one and the same webpage).... - Jul 06 2006

I compiled some other programs that need nmm and everything is OK, so I think that the configuration is working.
Maybe the problem is that i use the distribution's (Mandriva) devel files and not the nmm files as external libraries like lirc, libMagick, cdda etc.
Anyway I'll stop my efforts to compile nmm_dcop for now and maybe will try later with the stable version of nmm (the homepage of nmm is out for a couple of days) and a more stable version of nmm_dcop. - Oct 23 2005

Hi,
Everything from NMM is installed as needed, including the neccesary path changes:
NMM-cvs sources are in /usr/local/src/nmm-cvs and the prefix in the configure script is /usr/local.

In .bashrc of the profile that I use to compile programs I have these:

NMM_DEV_DIR=/usr/local/src/nmm-cvs
export NMM_DEV_DIR

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib:/usr/lib/qt3/lib:/usr/lib/wine:/usr/lib/hk_classes:/usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib:/usr/local/mozilla:/usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gtk-2.0:/usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk:/usr/local/lib/nmm
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/include -I/usr/include -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/usr/lib/qt3/include -I/usr/local/include/nmm"
LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/lib/nmm -L/usr/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib -L/usr/lib/qt3/lib -L/usr/local/lib/nmm"
export CPPFLAGS LDFLAGS

Is there anything else I can do to help you debuging this error? - Oct 19 2005
