Anti-SCO Wallpaper

Wallpaper Other by SeanParsons 16 comments

I tried it with a black background, but I could not get it to look right. I did get rid if the orange background though. If you think you can get it to work with a darker background better please let me know and I can send you my development images.

I need to get some sleep for work, I'll try your suggestion and post it tomorrow.

It's uploaded correctly. What you need to do is right click on the download link, choose save link as, and then rename the file to DarkBlueAndGrey.kcsrc

By the way, I just wanted to say that this is an awesome color scheme. I just downloaded it and installed it. - May 11 2003

The monitor program I'm running is called gkrellm. It is available at the following site:

http://muhri.net/gkrellm/

There are a plethora of skins available for it, in that particular screenshot I'm using a skin called "invisible". It is also available at the aforementioned site. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Slick, Slicker, & Karamba

KDE Plasma Screenshots by SeanParsons 6 comments

Bludy,

To explain a Konsole Kard I should probably explain what Slicker is first.

Slicker is a program that can be used to replace the KDE Kicker (start bar), or in the case of how I utilize it -- in conjunction with the Kicker. Slicker utilizes three major tools -- Kards, sliders, and a taskbar. You can get a good definition of these three things at http://slicker.sourceforge.net/info.php

To give you the most pertinent answer to your question we will just discuss Kards. Kards are retractable/extendable applications that you can place at the edge of your screen. These Kards can run various embedded applications such as Konsole, K Menu, your time and date, a quick launcher, ect.

So, for the short answer to your question; a Konsole Kard is an embedded applet of Konsole running within an extendable Kard that is made possible by a program called Slicker.

I hope this helps :) - Apr 25 2003

Bludy,

I'm using the konsole card under a pre-alpha version of slicker. Once you open your konsole card, you can stretch it to your peferred dimensions, and it will reopen to that size every time you slide it open. Also, for the transparency and changed fonts I right clicked within the konsole to edit my setting. - Apr 25 2003

Yoper Replacement Icon

Icon Sub-Sets by SeanParsons 7 comments

Yoper does have some drawbacks on eye-candy currently, but we can always dress KDE up however we want. Andreas (from Yoper) is not a graphics artist, but has compiled a really impressive linux distro. It is tailored to the i686 architecture and has taken an overall minimalist approach, despite having large programs like KDE, Mozilla, and OpenOffice.org. If you use it, you will probably be impressed with the speed.

Yoper has one of the best package management systems, based on Slackware's .tgz, but it can also use rpm's and deb's.

I'm really impressed with it overall, and I'm sure that the graphics will get better by the time they reach 1.0 (i.e., by the donation of improved images from users like me). - Dec 11 2002

Occasionally I have had that happen to me upon login to my account (I have GKrellM launch automatically). The only way I know of to correct that is to restart your X-server. You can download the 'invisible' skin for GKrellM at the following website:
http://muhri.net/gkrellm/
and then just choose to search for a skin by name. The skin's name is invisible.
Once you unpack it, place it in /home/(your user directory)/.gkrellm/themes/ and it will be available to use.

If your graphs are currently appearing in dull black and white graphs, you probably just need to switch skins. I believe GKrellM comes with five skins by default. To change skins you can right click on GKrellM and switch themes.

By the way, thank you for complimenting my icon. - Nov 22 2002

I appreciate the change. I have one more request. The first time you posted this there were two skins available. I really liked the KDEThing375b1 (it's the one I am now using). Is there any chance you could repost that, and change it so that it says XMMS at the top, instead of WinAmp? - Aug 25 2002

Thanks for the tip about XKill, but then I have to choose what to kill fom a lengthy menu (atleast with Redhat). Whereas, with an XKill icon I can click on it and then kill whatever window I want by just clicking on that window. - Aug 19 2002

Windows 2000 Icon Theme

Icon Sub-Sets by asifalirizwaan 58 comments

GNU/Linux and BSD are supposed to be alternatives to closed source proprietary software. It gives us the chance to utilize a multitude of various GUI's, each offering a high degree of flexibility unattainable in most other operating systems.

Why would anybody in their right mind want to mimic an ugly looking GUI like MS Windows? Trust me, making your icons ugly does not make KDE more user friendly. A folder icon is still discernable by my grandmother whether it has a plain manilla appearance, or a cool looking blue crystal-esque folder.

If you want cool looking icons, look at:

Crystal Icons,
Aqua Fusion Icons,
Slick Icons,
iKons,
Marbles,
Neon Icons,
etc.

They all possess originality, and look a whole lot better than anything MS has to offer. Please get rid of this inappropriate eye-sore. - Aug 02 2002

I always appreciate constructive criticism. I agree that the trash can icon sucks. It was one of the first icons I made for this set, and as the rest of the set has developed it has starting looking more and more out of place. I am working on another one for my first official release. To be honest I am not dissatisfied with the cdrom icon, but I'll play with it some anyway since you commented on it, and I'll have to use my own poor judgement (ha ha) to make my final decision. - Jul 24 2002

size. KDE and Gnome can both automagically scale your wallpaper. I purposely chose to make these wallpapers so large so that no one would have to worry increasing the size of the wallpapers and ending up with poor detail.

If you still need to manually scale it (i.e. if you are using another window manager) I would suggest the Gimp. It is all powerful and can rescale an image without even breaking a sweat. Once you open the image with the Gimp just right click on it choose Image => Scale Image. If you still have problems please let me know. - Jul 12 2002
