I am slowly but surely converting all of the computers in my office to Linux. Things such as your fine work here serve to make the transition smoother for my employees who are intimidated by Linux. I am converting as someone else said, not because Windows and MacOS aren't good products, I believe they are. I am converting because Linux is superior in that, among other things, it gives me more flexibility. - Jan 29 2002

I keep looking at kde-look for the update of your icons, they are perfect. Did you ever think of changing the k-gear icon (on the start button)? I think it might worth changing.

You are a real artist.

KDE 3.0-3.4 Themes by clee 112 comments

I just wanted to reiterate my agreement with Ty's suggestion from an earlier post: "I would suggest taking the XP menus form this style, make the highlight 3D like it in the default style, mix it with default KDE 3D widgets, and you have a winner! It takes the best from XP and KDE to make somthing very nice that's not a direct or close copy of Whistler/Luna.Aqua, etc."

The one thing I would also add to this is an (optional) slight translucency to the menus ala Liquid. In my mind that would just be awesome, and unique!

I hope we might be able to see something like this in the next (qt3) version! Thanks for all your hard work...

Well, the picture really is beautiful, but I don't think it fits the description
"KDE related", therefor it shouldn't be posted here.

The submitter politely asked if readers are interested in this sort of thing. U could have equally politely stated that you were not interested and that you suspect that most other readers are not interested. The rudeness of your reply was, IMHO, much much worse than the supposed bad quality of the wallpaper.

Vluther, please don't let the rudenes of people get u down. Feel free to try other things as well if your first submission isn't a total success.

From websters:
Monochrome \Mon"o*chrome\, n. [Gr. ? of one color; ? single + ?
color: cf. F. monochrome.]
A painting or drawing in a single color; a picture made with
a single color.

But.. from the free online Dictionary of computing:
Literally "one colour". Usually used for a black
and white (or sometimes green or orange) monitor as distinct
from a color monitor. Normally, each pixel on the display
will correspond to a single bit of display memory and will
therefore be one of two intensities. A grey-scale display
requires several bits per pixel but might still be called
monochrome.

great 'desktop' icon (the same one shown in your screen shot within konqueror file manager)

however for some reason the one in my task bar (quick link) is not changed by default. it's still the same old one that shows a blue screen. it would be nice if you could change this as it's sometimes confusing with the terminal icon...

also, would you be considering changing the default "K" gears icon (aka start button)?

Thanks. - Jan 28 2002

I think device icons should stay as they were in default KDE set.

Floppy should be just a floppy, CDROM just the CD disk. Otherwise floppy looks too similar to CD and HD. The old ones are easier to visually separate. - Jan 28 2002

KDE 3.x Window Decorations by tzvic 8 comments

I am experiencing similar problems. I found out for sure that the build and configuring process is definitely broken. I, for instance, configured it with all possible options (-with-qt-dir/includes/libs --with-extra-includes/libs etc.) and still had to manually adjust the Makefiles. What I found most strange, though, was that I configured the sources with --with-qt-dir=/usr/lib/qt-2.3.1, but looking into the generated makefiles I found '/usr/lib/qt-2.3.2(!!!)'. Since I used bash's autocompletion and double-checked everything, I can poitively rule out a mistake. Furthermore, some other paths like those pointing to the dcop2idl-compiler (or whatever you call it) seem to be hardwired.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time I experience such problems with theKompany-derived build processes. I still remember trying to compile Aethera (shudder). While beyond any doubt a great company that did and still does a lot to promote Linux in general and especially KDE, they seem to use a non-standard build process.
Back to compilation: I must admit, I finally gave up. After extensively adjusting paths in the Makefiles I now get

make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/lib/kwin.la', needed by `libkwinkwix.la.closure'. Stop.

This is beyond me. Any ideas?
Er, I forgot: It's a great window decoration! - Jan 28 2002
