I am sure there are way better things than actually having my neat GNU/Linux desktop look like W2k, but since I am also trying to establish as much Linux/Unix workstations for our customers as somehow possible, I really saw it helpful for them to at least have the 'familiar' look on their desktop, at least the very first weeks / months while they're trying to feel home in the new environment. So, even if I am not using it on *my* machine, I think this theme's neat. :>

Then follow the same direction to get Mosfet's Liquid's KControl module working. I forget exactly how to do it (I've gone to SuSE), but it's something like copying the applet from /usr/share/applnk/KDE/Configuration/LoonNFeeL/whatever to /usr/share/applnk-mkdk/Settings/LookNFeell or something to that effect. ok, from the liquid discussion, so change transmenu.desktop to whatever the ksplash/ML one happens to be called (i'm guessing ksplash.desktop, but I'm not in Linux right now, so I can't tell) According to different people, there's different places you can put it... but anyways...

cp /usr/share/applnk/Settings/LookNFeel/transmenu.desktop /usr/share/applnk-mdk-simplified/.hidden/Configuration/

-OR-

cp /usr/share/applnk/Settings/LookNFeel/transmenu.desktop /usr/share/applnk-mdk/Configuration/KDE/LookNFeel

Hi, I've just compiled Ksplash/ML on a Mandrake Cooker. The compilation went fine and the install too.
When KDE start's, I've got a new Ksplash BUT the is nothing in my control center. When I open Look'n Feel, there's no Ksplash Menu.
Does somebody know how to fix this?

Hey Ben, why don't you simply create a rpm of ksplash/ml?
Yes, the user would have to use --force, but it's kinda of a way around to not put it on main kdebase.
BUT if you put it on main rpm (or create a kdebase/ml) I won't be sad, otherwise, it will rulez :)

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by detsaot 77 comments

Gotcha. Don't mean to offend, good sir. :) That being said, I don't know why it would blow up like it does, offhand, unless somehow KApplication::desktop() is being (a) ignored, triggering QApplication::desktop() to return [a QWidget*], or (b) just plain being passed back as a QWidget*. This could be due to ksplash loading the wrong version of the KDE libraries, or it could be misspecified in the .h files. That's my best guess (but I'm a FreeBSD user, so take it at face value) :) -dT- - Nov 19 2001
