Alright some good and bad news.
I've managed to port the previous version 0.2.10 to MATE.

I cannot however port the latest version (0.3), because it depends on Gnome3. Since MATE is Gnome2 based, this means 0.2.10 will probably be the first and last version ported to MATE. - Feb 17 2012

I have just tested the latest builds on Linux Mint 12.

Good news. The latest version of Window Applets (0.3) seems to be working flawlessly, both Window Buttons and Window Title. - Feb 16 2012

No I have not, but I see there is a lot of demand for Window Applets on MATE. I will download Linux Mint and investigate the possibility getting it to run there. - Feb 16 2012

Unfortunately I am not familiar with MATE at the moment, but I believe that with the right amount of effort everything is possible. Especially with Linux. - Nov 22 2011

I'm glad you like the applets. I too cannot imagine a GNOME-based desktop without them.
I am of course fully aware of the current Linux desktop trends and the road to Gnome3. That is why I'm planning to port the project to Canonical's Unity - because that is where most users are - and later to Gnome3 as well. I think porting it to AWN is an option, but not the best one, because it adds complexity to the installation process (maybe some users don't need or want AWN). I believe porting it to each environment respectively is the right way to go, albeit a bit more difficult.

As for Linux Mint, I would really love to see the applets integrated with it, if they would be for it. And if they are willing to help porting it to Gnome3, that would be absolutely brilliant.

PM me if you would like to discuss this further. - Nov 08 2011

Unity is by far the worst user interface ever produced by a commercial company in my opinion too. But unfortunately a lot of people are stuck with the crap, so I will definitely port the applets to it in hopes of making their lives a little less miserable.

This however doesn't mean I won't try AWN (which I use myself). Ideally I would like to port it to every platform in existence, but of course my obstacle is the lack of time. - Oct 14 2011

If I understand you correctly, you would like to set a minimal size to the widget.

Try appending the following line into init_wbapplet in windowbuttons.c:
Quote:gtk_widget_set_usize(GTK_WIDGET(wbapplet->box),1,0);
where 1 is the minimal width and 0 is the minimal height, and see if this is what you want. - Sep 20 2011

I must say I've never heard of XfApplet before, but I will definitely look into it.

Yes, this appears to be true.
It seems there was another change in Ubuntu 11.04 (either with Compiz or Gconf).

Anyway, you can still set it manually.
In CompizConfig-Settings-Manager click on "Window decorations" and put "!state=maxvert" in the "Decoration windows" field. - May 28 2011

PS: I may have misunderstood. According to your comment subject you want to change the "Width of title"? In that case I'm not really sure what you are trying to do. The width is already as wide as possible. What more do you want? Can you give a little bit more detail as to what exactly you are trying to achieve. - Apr 04 2011

Gnome Extensions by holodeck 376 comments

You have two options.
1) Go to window title preferences and check "Custom style". Then simply select a bigger font.
2) Do not change anything in window applets. Go to the GNOME Appearance Preferences and define a larger "Application font". However this will also change various other fonts, so unless you want that, you should probably stick with the first option. - Apr 04 2011

Are you sure it's because of the applets? Which one?
I find this very unlikely, because window applets do not influence window sizes (unless instructed to by clicking). - Apr 03 2011

Hmm, it seems Arch places compiz's settings somewhere else, that's why this checkbox isn't working.

Do other settings work? Do you have Compiz installed? What about gconf? What distribution are you running? - Feb 17 2011

Gnome Extensions by holodeck 376 comments

It's probably possible, but you should configure Compiz manually to do that. Go to CCSM --> Window Decoration and configure the "Decoration windows" field accordingly (my applet basically just changes this field when you toggle that checkbox). You'll probably need to look up Compiz's documentation to figure out what exactly you need to type in there. - Jan 17 2011

I'm assuming you are confused over the schemas options.
All gnome applets use gconf schemas to define their default settings. I agree that this is very annoying, but it is a standard procedure. Thus you need to tell the applets where the schemas are stored, which unfortunately is different for many distributions. The one in my howto should work fine for Debian/Ubuntu. - Dec 11 2010
