GTK2 Themes by igancuhz 5 comments

It has recently occurred to me that most, if not all "new" (in the last 2 years or less) GTK themes can be broken into one of 2 groups:

A) <= ubuntu 9.10 nautilus compliant
B) == ubuntu 10.04 nautilus compliant

Furthermore, it would appear as though nautilus type A is naturally ugly, but recently has been correctable through use of "advanced" themes (like this one). In opposition to this, there is the naturally attractive nautilus type B, that unfortunately looks rather ugly when used with an "advanced" theme (like this one.

To get to my point... I would love to see (and expect that eventually) most, if not all themes be "converted" to work and look good with the new nautilus. - Apr 06 2010

The download link just loads the image of the preview... was this a mistake, or is the theme not done yet?

It will eventually be an actual theme, right? It's not just one of those "if only" moments, is it? Because I really hope it will be done soon! This is quite possibly one of the, if not /the/ best theme(s) I've seen in... years! - Apr 05 2010

Just out of curiosity, what is that panel your using? (the bottom one)

It's not that AWN or whatever it's called, is it? If it is, I'll have to have another look a that program... ;) - Apr 01 2010

The textures and lighting don't appear to be terribly complex, so do you think maybe we could afford to do some anti-aliasing? It would really look nicer without all those sharp edges on everything. - May 22 2009

I would make sure that the problem is caused by the theme, and not something else first - it just seems odd that a theme could do this... - May 21 2009

Every time I see a new one of these (any variation of this idea with "Zenburn" in the name), it has made a quantum leap forward in quality from the one before it! Great work! - May 21 2009
Broken Vista Mod

Wallpaper Other by Bignono 4 comments

Are we trying to say that we have the strength to break down Vista and win the "OS Wars"? Just thinking, because one way to look at this could possibly be that under the covers of Vista it's secretly Linux, and that would definitely be the wrong message to send... =P - May 15 2009
After Hours

I made some significant changes to the Wasp GTK theme, particularly in unifying everything under one dark shade rather than some being light and some dark, as well as changing many of the color settings and menubar/toolbar gradients in an attempt to get the best/smoothest integration between the different parts of any kind of window (whether it has certain parts or not). As for the metacity, just compare the original Dust to this! I made some (I think) major fixes to the highlighting/edge that were driving me crazy with the original. The border is all now one colour, the bottom edge fades out from the bottom of most windows, it will adapt to match mine or nearly any dark theme, where as the original had it's colours "set in stone", as it were, and I also drastically changed the text; it now has something of a real shadow, and not just a flat partial outline on one side. - May 15 2009

Oh, that never even crossed my mind as something special, but I guess a lot of people might not know about it. Open nautilus (your home folder or where ever), and go "Edit > Preferences". Then go to the "Display" tab and you will see 3 combo boxes (drop down menus). Make the one on top set to "size", and it should work. If it doesn't, go to the "Preview" tab and set the bottom thing ("Count number of items") to "always". - May 15 2009

OK, sorry it took so long, but here is the file for 1440 x 900

Also, I have provided this package

http://www.mediafire.com/?1w0l3jghz3m

In it, you will find 3 files. I couldn't just upload the xcf because resizing it would be complicated, so here are 3 separate files, and instructions:

1) Download and extract
2) Open the xcf - Change "Canvas size" (not scale) to your desired resolution
3) Open as layers the "overlay.png" file
4) place it between layers 1 & 2, with 100% set to "multiply"
5) Scale this layer to cover the image
6) Open (not as layers) the Tile bitmap, and tile it to your desired resolution. Place the result at the bottom of all the layers in your main image
7) Save it and you are done! Ask if you have any questions - I'll try to respond faster from now on!! - Feb 09 2009

Remember that for it to look like the screenshot, you need the font (it's mentioned in the file). Also, make sure it's in your home directory named ".conkyrc" (you have to add the dot). Lastly, some of my paths may not apply to you - edit them as need be - Jan 13 2009

Sorry, I've been away for a while

yea, in the package there should be some small png's, they go inside /usr/share/icons/<icon theme>/<icon size*>/status
(*probably 22x22 or 24x24)

There should be a set of icons that look like the ones you have now, so just replace them (save them first if you want though ;)) - Jan 13 2009

True - something about the fonts it just to harsh. I would try perhaps a different one, like the new "Sawasdee", bundled with Hardy, and don't make it totally black - try a slight transparency to soften it. (or if this is impossible (I don't know I don't make these :p) just a lighter shade of gray) - Aug 24 2008

thanks! I made a few that I was planning on entering in the Gnome wallpaper contest, but I didn't ever gt any of them as good as I would have wanted. Lunacity

Metacity Themes by Cuvou 32 comments

yea, sad thing is most people really will fall for it! :p

I on the other hand would notice the instant I clicked anything... the lack of the simple sharp shadows on drop down menus, the fonts, the probable fact that a small section of the "start button" (assuming you mod this to fool them too) rather lights up where it shouldn't, or doesn't where it should. I would hope that EVERYBODY notices the fact that the "start button" would also have no unique "pressed" state :p - May 07 2008

Misphla: Normal, Flat, Superflat + Dark

Metacity Themes by themer 12 comments

They are all designed to adapt to whatever colour scheme you are using, so if you have a white theme don't except it to go dark - I assumed you were asking for a version that would look better when using a proper dark theme (because the regular one's highlights are much too intense in that case).

I'll see if I can make a flat theme (non-adapting)... I just can't see why anyone would want a dark window border on a light theme... - May 01 2008

Gnome Panels Package

Various Gnome Stuff by themer 6 comments

OK, I added some slightly transparent versions. Unfortunately, I did not save the XCF's so I cannot really do a whole lot with them but just reduce uniform transparency (the whole thing). This is very easy in GIMP and you can do it yourself to anything you want. Just drag the transparency for the layer down. If I had my way I would maybe reduce the main section significantly more but only reduce the highlight a bit, but like I said, I didn't keep the XCF's so I cant. - Apr 28 2008

Excelsior (Engine)

GTK2 Themes by Chrispy 85 comments

I see very good potential for this engine, but it's not quite there yet. The colours should be unified - not green here, blue here, pink here, etc. and of course customizable by the user (unless you wish to simply release multiple re-coloured versions).

I really like the sliders, that's my favourite part! :D - Apr 11 2008
