KSplash/ML (Release 0.80)

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by detsaot 77 comments

I tried to compile it on SuSE 7.2 and got the following error message:
...in the prefix you have coosen, no KDE headers are installed...

I used --prefix=/opt/kde2/include, and the headers are in this directory for sure... - Dec 11 2001

You can make the trash can seem to
dissapear by replacing the kfm_trashfull.xpm and kfm_trash.xpm icons with a transparent one. Make a transparent icon in iconeditor by
just saving an empty icon(ie, just open then close iconeditor and save the file). Rename this transparent icon to kfm_trashfull.xpm (and a copy to kfm_trash.xpm) and (as root) replace the original trash icon with the transparent one. You must restart KDE for this to take effect. I'm trying to remember...I think kfm_trashfull lives in /usr/share/icons but you may need to search for it. On some distributions I have found more than one set of trash icons. If this is the case you'll have to try all of them in turn to see which one is on the desktop. - Dec 11 2001

makes it specific only to you. I wouldn't put personal logos on wallpapers for general use. For you own personal wallpaper, your own logo is fine. But offer it without your logo for others.

I suspect this isn't your personal logo, but the logo of some organization. But the same prinicipal applies. - Dec 10 2001

I was just roaming the wallpaper and I saw the following.

I thought it was tight, however I had no idea - As to how tight until I selected to use this background with my large 19" monitor.

The background is crisp and color are so tight.

This one is off the Hook - Folks.

Ooh, glowing... everything! I like this sort of shininess. :)

There is one problem with all the bright colours, though. In KDE programs, menues don't have outlines, so it's a little hard to tell what is and isn't part of the menu.

Toolbar buttons, which aren't bubble-fied, also look a bit out of place (but it's nice in its own way).

Very nice theme otherwise. It makes my otherwise drab GTK+ apps look competent alongside my substantially flashier KDE apps. - Dec 09 2001

windows that one can see through, is that a feature of a (this) theme of is that something the window manager (KDE) must be capable of? i really like that, but i don't want to install all kind of different themes just to have transparent windows when KDE itself can do it also...

I really like this theme, althoug installation in KDE failed (2.2.1), GTK works fine, except one littel weirdness. It does not display checkboxes when they are in a menu (like the 'sign mail' in sylpheed).

But I'm sure this will get fixed, and then, combined with the icewm theme, and kde-style import it'll make a great full-desktop style! - Dec 09 2001
iKons 0.5 Pro edition

Icon Sub-Sets by kborrey 119 comments

While I do appreciate the author's effort in creating iKons I would myself like to see something that looks a bit more... "professional". I hope that doesn't make me a fascist ;-). Now, there are guidelines for creating KDE artwork and it is supposed to look somewhat "cartoonish". Still, I think it is possible to have a professional looking, cartoonish icon set. To begin with the Home icon should be redone - it makes me think of Hansel and Gretchen outside the witch's house...
Anyway, thanks for iKons. Choice is good. There will be more.

First of all, to install a patch you simply type "patch " assuming you have the program patch on your system. The file you need to patch is mosfet-liquid0.7/widget-engine/liquid.cpp. So you need to first unpack the liquid-0.7 tarball, apply the patch, then compile as usual.

Now, this patch fixed a rendering problem that I had, that the lines wouldn't appear and instead the window color just smeared. I put up a screenshot at http://userpages.umbc.edu/~gdavis7/snapshot1.png. I sent an email to mosfet about this yesterday, but he hasn't replied as of yet.
