This seems to be related to the KApplication::desktop() function not returning a KDesktopWidget -- Check your $KDEDIR/include/kapp.h and see what type desktop() returns - If it returns a QWidget *, you may need to upgrade/re-install your kde-devel package. Hope this helps! :) -dT- - Nov 19 2001

telling themes.org to "fix their old security problems" is a little oversimplistic, if not insulting to those working at the site.

many of the themes and resources on the site made use of scripts (sawfish scripts) and binaries that needed to be compiled (some gtk theme engines).
fixing the site required a complete audit of all the themes such as these to make sure there were no backdoors put into the sources.

nearly all of those themes that didn't involve some kind of code or scripts were put up within a very short time. blackbox, afterstep, gnustep, enlightenment, etc. had their themes put back up quickly

that being said, i do think that themes.org dropped the ball by having each theme/resource/skin reviewed by a themes.org official. this slows down the building of the site, not to mention the fact that some of the reviewers "just dont get it" i've seen great reviews on themes that were awful to look at, werent functional, or were complete rips of previous works. hopefully they'll change it to some kind of voting scheme like kde-look - Nov 19 2001

The new stop icon looks very nice in conjunction with the refresh icon. Good choice on making the old (fat X) stop icon the kill(?) icon, I wanted to kill it too. ;)

The new paste icon is also very pleasant to look at. If only the navigation arrows were that bright... Actually, it's odd. The 16x16 navigation arrows look fine, but the 22x22 ones seem too dark for some reason.

The filenew icon looks more like a mimetype than an action. Maybe moving the star more towards one of the upper corners would help? - Nov 18 2001

I like the Desktop icon as it is. The style of the old one (desktop_old2.png) looked too dark and bland relative to the other Kicker icons. I could also never tell what it was--sort of a cross between a paperclip and a Gameboy light. This new one did take a little bit of getting used to due to its similarity to the old Konsole icon, but it's actually a pretty accurate representation of the Desktop. - Nov 18 2001

Well... I originally did these images using my favorite graphics program Pimpact. Sorry. Photo Impact 4. It uses it's own .UFO file format so it is useless for exporting things, hwoever, the PNGs are what I worked from after the inital positioning of the K and cogs... If you want the originals, you have them already :D The K was taken from the front page of artist(s).kde.org and the cog from the clipart section. The program I used to create the curves will be on my website momentarily (Curves.zip)... look for it :D - Nov 18 2001

True, but themes.org is the biggest not-just-for-KDE theming site around.

Now, why they couldn't just fix their old security problems is beyond me.

are you serious? what kind of fascist hole do you work at where your boss would actually notice that, and even give a shit?
"hey, johnson, that pea-sized rocket looks mighty suspicious. doesn't look too professional...you playing games again johnson?"
come on man, you're asking for a change on a kde icon theme based on what your boss might think?! think about that...it's ridiculous. deal with your own paranoias and corporate infections, and let the rest of us keep lil' joys like these.
ikons developer fella, ignore this man, his cubicle has gotten the best of him. and don't waste your time on making two versions. make one good one, and leave these fools to pray for their salvation.

I would leave the old Desktop icon as the original. The new one looks too much like a terminal - where it was used as a terminal previously confised me when it switched to the Desktop icon - I thought somehow my setup has gotten screwed up. Also, the new 16x16 K-menu icon looks bad - leave the original, or make the knobs on the gears more pronounced. The large version of that icon used to look "fat", but apparently you've fixed that by maing the knobs more pronounced. - Nov 18 2001

...to invite somebody to make a GTK+ theme that looks like KDE's default and highcolor-default styles! That way we'd have a more consistent UI. I don't much like importing GTK themes into KDE, because no GTK theme I've ever seen looks anywhere near as good KDE's defaults.

I might try to make a pixmap-based one next summer, but one really needs to do style-engine. Unfortunately, I'm not a programmer. - Nov 17 2001

The easieast way is to generate a project with kdevelop. It givs you the files and directory structure. Or you could copy the admin directory from kde-cvs (2.2.x branch) and make the changes needed in the Makefile.am.

All this gives you automatic dist creation and translation.
