POLARIS: Security enhancement for KDE

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by fprog26 8 comments

I'm the new Limda-Virus exploiting another xpdf vulnerability. Since you have viewed this PDF (brought to you by a google search) and your PDF viewer runs with all privileges, I'm posting your email account data to kde-apps.org.

Email account data:
user: asdex
password: jhtzhn
email: asdex@freshmeat.net

A random selection of your sent-mail folder will be posted at kde-look.org

Pleas help me spread by clicking onto http://hacked.org/linux-wlan-howto.pdf

Lesson learned? ;-)

* A Webbrowser should not need to access ~/Documents
* A PDFreader should not have rights to access anything other than the actual PDF.

- Basically the same may apply because of image smoothing settings.

It would be nice if the image smoothing settings would be named more exacly.

What the heck is "normal quality" or "fast"? Do you mean bicubic, lanczos windowed Sinc, ...?

At least additionally mention the algorithm.

Btw. did you have a look at the MPlayer source code? They have fast-like-hell resampling routines (bilinear, bicubic, gauss, lanczos windowed sinc,...).

proper webbrowsing menu

It's very simple to adjust Konqueror's toolbars. For example remove the location widget from the adress bar, place it into the main toolbar and disable the adress bar.

Then remove those silly "copy", "paste" icons (you do have a three-button-mouse, don't you?) and Konqueror looks quite nice.

A bookmark toolbar gives you direct access to many bookmarks without having first to click into the menu bar.

See http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=8999 for an example.

Set CD-ROM Speed

Utilities by mkosmul 15 comments

It would be nice to extend the context menu of a CDROM icon on your desktop to be able to adjust the cdrom speed.

Btw. this can be done manually with (for example) hdparm -E 4 /dev/hdc - Nov 22 2004

Optimise Compression

Dolphin Service Menus by Yama 22 comments

I have done different tests. Compared to pngcrush the results were not worth the "two-pass" pain. At least for me. - Nov 09 2004
Optimise Compression

Dolphin Service Menus by Yama 22 comments

I'm not impressed by the performance of AdvanceCOMP and OptiPNG.

OptiPNG shows really bad results while AdvancedComp shows results comparable to the older and reliable PNGCrush.

I don't know why I should use those programs.

Just save your large PNGs with "compression=9" (when using Gimp). - Nov 08 2004

Crystal SVG

Full Icon Themes by everaldo 132 comments

Hi Everaldo,

the "undo" icon from Crystal SVG and Crystal GT is really strange:

At every icontheme but crystal, the Undo-Icon shows a counter clockwise arrow, while the Redo-Icon shows a clockwise arrow.

Your iconsets show for both actions a clockwise arrow. That's really bad interface design!

What about just mirroring the redu icon to get a better undo icon?

There exists even a KDE-bugreport:
