Sorry the source package I uploaded several hours ago was corrupt.

About your questions:
1. System tray: I will implement it as soon as I know how to do it technically. It s quite tricky.

2. I am always trying to make the zoom effect better. It is still far from the effect in other OSs now.

3. The length of the dock depends on the setting of dock item's size and the number of dock items so I'm not sure if I can do like you said. Whereas with kicker, the lenght of a task button is dynamic.

4. Can you explain this further?

It's still fake transparency at the moment.

I want to implement real transparency, but only when the technology is mature and it is popular. At the moment, few people use xgl/compiz or composite... so I do not consider it yet.

Implementing position setting (top, bottom, left, right of the screen) means rewriting a lot of code, so it is likely I will implement it in version 4 (which will be released when KDE 4 is popular).

Hi,

Did you download the official source code?

And what is your command for Firefox? If it has no argument (because the command with argument "firefox " will go to that URL) then it should go to your default homepage (the effect is just like typing the firefox command from a terminal).

In KSmoothDock 3.6.x there is an "autohide" option. It may not be perfect though, as at the moment the transparency is still "fake". When xorg with composite is mature I will implement KSmoothDock using it.

In Linux if you run a program from a terminal, then once you close the terminal, the program is also terminated.

However, you can either keep the terminal open or, create a short cut (a Link to Application) to the program then run the program from that short cut.

About the tooltip problem, you can fix it by choosing a smaller font size for tooltip text (from Configuration Dialog).

Which version of KSmoothDock are you using?
In newest versions, there is a glare effect whenever you click on a quick launcher (so you know the app is starting).

We'll try to fix the minimize bug in 3.6. Autohide will be in 3.6. Systray will also be implemented in later versions. About the starting of the app, it's slow because it needs to generate the pixs (lots of them) used for smooth zooming, so at the moment there's nothing can be done about it. We'll try to improve it in the future anyway.

About the bug, it's because KDE 3.1 doesn't have some specific function calls that KSD uses. That's why KSD needs KDE 3.2 to fully function.

Should be:
./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3
(--prefix not -prefix)?

Otherwise you can just:
./configure
make
make install

After that cd to the directory ksmoothdock-3.5.1/ksmoothdock, then run "./ksmoothdock"
