Great! I will include this in an update as soon as I get the chance. I will be sure to put your name in the readme. You can view the work I have done so far on the black version of the NuoveXT KBFX theme, I uploaded all of my source files and work done so far to the Technica theme, so play around with it, see if you can improve it. (note: none of the Technica theme has been solidified, it is all in development stages) - Apr 01 2008

I will be making a few updates to kollide soon. I will be fixing some things in the mask and improving the apps list.

Also, the dark version of my NuoveXT2 KBFX theme is almost finished, it will be released with the Technica theme as a glossy alternative.

I guess your right, it's all about peoples taste.

Just to clarify, I was not trying to imply that this is not a good looking theme (except for the panel) or mine is better, it is just disheartening that an artist can put over a months worth of effort attempting to perfect a theme and then get booted back by a GPL compilation. Oh well, that's the beauty of GPL, being able to take the best of everything and throw it together. - Mar 26 2008

Also, just a hint for another aspiring artist. When doing abstract wallpapers, use thin (1 to 2 px) outlines, such as the rays or whatever they are in mac style wallpapers, it gives a smoother look. - Mar 25 2008

Good job for a first wallpaper. I remember my first wallpaper... I am guessing you got the inspiration for the Suse wallpaper from my iOS theme? Speaking of iOS,

Why does this have such a high rating? it looks ok, but most of it is not his work, (wallpaper is default that ships with KDE4, Crystal Project), there is nothing inherently wrong with that, it is just nice to see someone get to the top by at least mostly there own work. The panel could use some improvement too.

There are so many themes, much better than this one, that deserve this spot and the rating. Such as Azenis

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Azenis?content=77150

and if you want a good light theme, look just a few spots down at NuoveXT2.

I honestly just don't get why this theme has such a high rating. - Mar 25 2008

This seems to be a good piece of work, however if I may make a suggstion, the lighting is rather... primitave. For your highlights, it would be better to make your radial gradient bigger, blurier, and a little more transparent. Right now the icons look almost fake because of this. Try not to use flat white for lighting, try using a brighter, more saturated color for the object where it needs to be brighter, and a less saturated brighter version of the objects color for highlights. Overall on the right track, just needs some minor improvements. Hint: try looking at the crystal project, this is an excellent example of proper lighting techniques for photo realistic icons. - Mar 19 2008

Kubuntu is fairly finicky in this regard. You can try applying the kth elements manually. Re-name the .kth file to .tar.gz (either that or .zip, I can't remember) and you should get the color scheme and wallpaper. make sure that your panel is set at 32px height, and it should work. As for dekorator. I don't know what to tell you. Mabey someone else could give you a hand. Try posting something on the forums here.

This is one of the reasons why I switched to Open Suse, it is so much easier to theme, and package management is a lot less finicky than Kubuntu. - Mar 18 2008

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by falco101 43 comments

What distribution are you using? If you set the Window decoration to dekorator, install the theme, click set paths, and apply, then it should work. If not then your dekorator install might be broken. To install the kth file, just open up your system settings, click on appearance, theme manager (note: you will not have this option in kubuntu, for some foolish reason access to the ktheme manager is non existent in this distro.) To install the domino theme, click on style, select domino, click configure, load/save, load the kollide domino config and click ok, and apply. If for some reason there are still problems, or something doesn't work, just ask.

Hope this helped. - Mar 18 2008

Not much of a theme. More like just a wallpaper with a sys monitor. Even though there is technically nothing wrong with it, I feel a certain responsibility when posting a theme to have it be all or mostly my own work. But that is just me. You should probably place the link for the wallpaper in the description, and give the original artist credit. - Mar 11 2008

Don't worry, I don't think that your KDE is broken, It just isn't very user friendly. It is the same struggles that everyone new to KDE has when first switching over. So, the reason the splash theme isn't working is probably because you do not have moodin installed. All of my splash themes require moodin, it makes my life a lot easier to develop themes this way. As for the Amarok theme, if you install it and apply it, everything should work perfectly. - Mar 10 2008

Various KDE 1.-4. Styles by falco101 45 comments

Alright... Make sure that you have Polyester installed, deKorator, moodin, and if you like, KBFX and Kooldock (Ksmoothdock works too). The polyester config file goes in /home/(username)/.qt/
. In order to install the ktheme file open up the system settings (control center), appearance, theme manager, and install new theme. For some odd reason on most distros you can't just click the ktheme file and have it install. So now you have the style and color scheme, you should be able to follow the instructions listed above for the icon set. - Mar 10 2008

In as much as I have a great dislike for windows (actually Microsoft in general), it would be foolish to completely ignore a good design concept just because some software totalitarian uses it. The buttons are actually less like windows than plastic, lipstick, and the default SUSE buttons. Just because buttons have a square look does not mean that it is a windows knock off. The buttons were also made using the oxygen color scheme, as well as the background. (which I spent a few hours looking at the mac BG and trying to re-create that style using GIMP). All in all the only two things that I was directly influenced by when creating this theme was the default Mac BG, and Revaline's Launch Menu.

-ps this is after all a theme designed for ease of use, the red close button actually enhances the usability of the windows by drawing your attention to the most used button, and allowing for a visual reference and contrast to the rest of the window buttons. - Feb 29 2008

Most of the image turned out how I wanted it. The only issue I had was that when i outlined the shapes the Technica was printed on, it was not as smooth as I wanted.
