Interesting idea for a KDE style

Various Stuff by bluelambda 13 comments

I'd suggest keeping the scrollbars round. If anything at all, tweak for a more oval feel - but apart from that, both thunderbird and firefox theme looks excellent with the round scrollers. As far as colors go - the charamel scheme is nice but a white or very light gray scheme should do nicely - and the flipside black dark schemes would be nice as well. Plus they would match Sascha Hohne's Minium themes when they come out. - Jul 06 2004

Various Stuff by bluelambda 13 comments

Depends on the content. Some milk things I've seen have free or GPL licenses, those you could use content from. On the other hands, some milk stuff needs permission from the original author Max Rudberg from http://www.maxthemes.com - but I've never heard of anyone being contacted and saying no. :) Good luck! If you need any bug testing on x86_64 or sparc64 platforms let me know! - Jul 06 2004

the script will generate 96x96, 72x72, 64x64, 48x48, 32x32, 22x22, and 16x16 sizes by default. Once the tar.gz or tar.bz2 is created by the script and you install it. The default size is 64x64 for desktop and file manager related displays. You can change the size by selecting the tab at the top and change the default size, or override it actually. The .theme file inside the $HOME/.kde/share/icons/SNOx/ directory specifies the default sizes but you can overwrite the size in that tab. This includes the default size for "small" icons as well - useful if you have gigantic displays. :) Hth.

I've had Internet Explorer, VB6, and WinRAR running under Codeweaver's Crossover Office - 2.1 something if I remember. The only usefulness I found was trying Internet Explorer on my website - until I realized IE doesn't display PNG images... that was poor. Ark is quite good, especially with all the formats it can handle. Oh, and Outlook works in Crossover Office too. Just info though - I don't use any of these products.

I'm really surprised you don't have it. Convert is part of the ImageMagick package available at http://www.imagemagick.org - I would double check to make sure you don't have it before getting it from their site. If you have a RPM-based system, you can use the command line to perform:
rpm -qa | grep ImageMagick
to see if ImageMagick is installed. If you don't have an RPM-based system, you can always search for the convert binary using 'find'. From the console:
find / | grep convert | grep bin
which will look for any file named convert with 'bin' in its path. Hope this helps!

thomas,
with respect to the previous post about the horizontal scrollbars not showing up correctly, and the screenshot someone posted...
i'm on x86-64 and have the same issue, around line 1581 of your baghira.cpp file, i copied the

painter.drawTiledPixmap( bgR.x(), bgR.y() + 1, bgR.width(), 13, *getPixmap( HSBSliderMidBg ) );

from your else condition right after

if (drawSlider) {

and it at least fixed the problem with the slider's groove. if anybody else on a 64-bit system can back me up. the scrollbar still has those vertical lines but at least the groove does not.

I don't have pixmaps either but I never have had them using baghira.
And "konsole tabs in bottoms look ugly"?
That's a bug?
It looks nice on my machine. Then again,
x86_64 seems to have som quirks over lowly 32-bit machines. ;)

I'm in no way a pro at this yet. But the index.desktop file that KDE needs has an option for Scaleable, Threshold, or Fixed I believe. Mine are all set to threshold so if I'm missing one, it would take the next closest size and resize it. I believe Scaleable might resize for you but I'm not sure. Either that or its for SVGs only.
Either way, GIMP I've found is the best at resizing anything and making the image still look spectacular. If KDE were to resize things on the fly, I can't see how it wouldn't need more overhead when displaying anything.
In the end, 6 MB for a set is decent IMO, I'm suprised no one thought of this before.

KDE Unballer

Dolphin Service Menus by maitre 23 comments

Didn't see your post til now - oops. :) There's a .desktop file in there, and there's an unball script. Move the .desktop file into your servicemenus directory and the unball script anywhere in your path, I suggest /usr/bin.
More detailed explanation:
Open up a console, say xterm.
1. su {enter}
2. enter root password {enter}
3. cp unball /usr/bin
4. locate servicemenus
This will hopefully find your
servicemenus directory for you.
It should be under a apps/konqueror
parent directory. If you do not
have locate. You can cd to /
"cd /" and do:
find | grep servicemenus to do the
same thing (just slower).
5. cp unball.desktop /path/servicemenus
6. Logout and backin. - Jun 12 2004

Very nice - a little suggestion though, the last two images, fit well, but the characters don't. Perhaps maybe some other icons from the game? If you disagree, I suggest selecting the background around the first character's icon, a growing the selection by 1 pixel - then erase what you have left, that will get rid of the white outline. :)

I've seen the posts about horizontal scrollbars, and I'm having the same problems. I was hoping maybe somebody resolved it? All the other styles have no scrollbar issues, and it appears to only be x86_64 platforms so far? Anyone hit a solution?
By the way, thomas, when I use the configure script supplied with your style, I've got to edit all the makefiles it creates, specifically the bab, kcmbaghira, and widget-engine makefiles need to point to lib64 directories and not libs for us.
