Smooth Tasks

Plasma 4 Extensions by panzi 840 comments

I'm using Kubuntu 9.10, KDE 4.1.1, and the Smooth Tasks package from Sam Rog's PPA (version wip20100213~karmic~ppa1), and every time I try to add the Smooth Tasks widget it crashes plasma-desktop. Is there a work around besides building from source? - Mar 27 2010
I notice this is just a problem in Firefox--a typical pain in the ass--so nevermind! - Mar 21 2010
Are the scrollbar arrows that appear above and below the scrollbar area still the wrong color in 3.1? They appear a dark grey in the non-gradient version of 3.0, but they should be much lighter.

By the way, nice work on the theme. - Mar 21 2010
Thanks. That looks much better. It looks great in fact. (Notice on the gradient version that, e.g., if you have the bookmarks/history sidebar open the title bar (where it says "Bookmarks") is a completely different color from the rest of the window background around it. On the alternate gtkrc this doesn't happen.) - Mar 17 2010
I think you're better off setting the window color to be the same color of the window decoration when the gradient is disabled (i.e. "window decoration background style" is set to "solid color" in the appearances settings). That way KDE 4.4 users can, as usual, set window-specific overrides for GTK apps to disable the decoration gradient. It looks better having some apps without the gradient but proper color matching than having them with a gradient and mismatched colors. - Mar 17 2010

It worked. I like the theme but I wish the plasmoids (e.g. folder view) were a bit more translucent and the corners more rounded. I like the panel a lot, I must say. - Mar 15 2010

Using the launchpad ppa in the description and installing kde-plasma-smooth-tasks still causes the widget to crash when attempting to add it to the panel. This is in KDE 4.4. Is it just my set up? Is there a configuration file that perhaps needs deleting? - Feb 14 2010

Recoll

Utilities by medoc 42 comments

I just installed from the Kubuntu PPA Recoll 1.13.01 (and Xapian 1.0.17) and the interface appears to be Qt3, which obviously doesn't match with the rest of my KDE4.3 desktop. I notice on Recoll's website that it uses Qt4 (or CAN) and there are even pretty screenshots of a Qt4-looking Recoll. So why is mine so ugly? - Jan 11 2010

Regarding 3, I guess it is just a bug with Banshee's Notification Area Icon plugin. Even when the icon has a transparent background, the background comes out black in your theme. I guess it is a problem with murrine or pixmap generally and the plugin, because even when I change the panel background to an opaque image (e.g. the Shiki panel image) the bug is still there. I've disabled the plugin for the moment, but it adds some nice functionality for us Banshee users!

Thanks for the update! - Jan 07 2010

I like this a lot, but here's a couple complaints nonetheless :-P

1. In Nautilus the divider between places and bookmarks is missing. Actually I also like the button-like breadcrumbs which you've replaced with folder names that hang in open space! In any case, how about that divider?!

2. The theme doesn't observe system fonts properly. I know you wanted to make it compact, but...

3. The panel only supports icons with transparent backgrounds. Yeah, I can just use another panel background, and yeah, gnome-panel is crap and should support transparency better.

This is now my favorite theme. I really like the scrollbars and window decoration! - Jan 07 2010

In e.g. Firefox the left-most graphic (i.e. the gnome foot) falls off the tab and looks like shit. This is a general problems with making the tabs taper I suspect. Do those icons have to be there, on the left? The same problem happens anyway with the right-most close icon using certain icon sets and in certain apps.

Too bad, because this these looks pretty good otherwise. - Jan 03 2010
ShikiDark Emerald

Beryl/Emerald Themes by samuliss 3 comments

IMO the color of the border when opaque should be the same as the shiki metacity one. (Some people would rather have it opaque, and will set it as such!) The fact that you have some transparency set shouldn't matter. You can check the exact color code of the shiki theme in the theme's gtkrc file.

Anyway, just my opinion... - Jan 02 2010

I imagine you intentionally wanted the monochrome icons to look sort of embossed. As a result, they look like crap on a dark panel! Yeah, they look nice on a light panel but you could've made them neutral so that they look nice on either a dark or light panel. - Jan 01 2010

It's also possible to just throw them in the status folders of the Humanity and Humanity-Dark theme folders. That way you don't overwrite anything, and it remains system wide (assuming those themes are installed as root, which they are in Karmic). - Dec 06 2009

Given the rounded top windows decoration, it would seem most fitting that the tabs should be rounded too and, arguably, the the scroll bars as well. I love Shiki but the comletely rectangular, sharp-cornered tabs look out of place. - Nov 17 2009

I downloaded a version prior to Nov. 11 and the dark ones (for dark panel) didn't match with the monochrome icons of Humanity-Dark. Yours are too light.

I can't tell, but I'm sure it's the dark ones being displayed and not the light ones. (I rebuilt the icon cache as well and logged out and back in.) - Nov 11 2009
