I like it a lot better than the default. I'm waiting for itask-ng to allow for a user-defined image as the background, but until then, this fills in nicely. Thanks! - Jul 15 2008

Screenlets 0.1.2

Conky by Whise 18 comments

Just wanted to give a big thanks for all the outstanding work you've done on this project. You've helped take Screenlets from being the little widget platform that might to what is, in my opinion, the best widget platform around hands down. Sucks to see you go, but best of luck to you on any future endeavors. I'll keep an eye out for your next project. - Jun 05 2008

With all the OSX imitations you see around here, it seems like something like this wouldn't be so hard to find. Thanks for filling in this gap!

BTW, I use Mediafire for file hosting. I haven't been using it long, but the thing that made me try it was how painless it was to download stuff from there in the past. Give it a shot - I wouldn't mind getting those packages. :-D - Apr 22 2008

KDE Software Installer (Debian, Kubuntu)

System Tools (NOT OS or ROMS) by xadras 9 comments

Given you've packaged it for Debian sid, I'm assuming it just uses apt-get on the backend for all its package management functions? If so, that's great, as it's pretty much the first GUI-based package manager that won't break Sid and/or sidux. I just have one tiny complaint: The left column (Categories) doesn't honor the color scheme's setting for "Alternate background in lists," which makes it hard to use with color schemes that use light test. Aside from that, great job. Any plans on extending it to the point of Adept Installer (i.e., so every package that has a .desktop file is listed)? - Apr 14 2008
I've been keeping an eye on this screenlet since you first released it, and I must say the progress you've made with it's quite impressive. There's just one thing that's still keeping me from using it - I have all of my screenlets lined up along the bottom edge of my screen, and there's still no option to have the sidebar aligned to the top or bottom. Aside from that, very nice work, keep it up! - Apr 11 2008

Great work you've done here. It's good to see someone take inspiration from Vista's theme and actually *improve* on it, rather than adding to the huge pile of clones. I love the italicized button icons, BTW-- I don't think I've seen that in any other themes. Keep up the good work! - Mar 18 2008

Autoplay Videos

Amarok 1.x Scripts by camico 9 comments

Nice idea. I'm wondering how feasible/practical it'd be to add functionality to this so that it would look in a user-defined directory for a video for every song played. The video files would obviously have to be properly named - something like "%artist - %title" - for this to work. - Jan 25 2008

This looks like it could be a real lifesaver for me. I just got a 12-button mouse which I'm very happy with, but I have to use the evdev driver to get the extra buttons working, which doesn't seem to play well with most games.

The only problem is I can't get it working. I'm having the same problem jackiebrown mentioned:
Fatal server error:
Cannot move old log file ("/var/log/Xorg.1.log" to "/var/log/Xorg.1.log.old
I already tried the commands you mentioned, no joy. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. - Dec 31 2007

Fotowall

Graphic Apps by koral 60 comments

Very nice little app. I realize this is its first release, but I do have a couple suggestions for future versions (most, if not all, of which you've probably already thought of):
1) It'd be nice if the user could do something like hold Shift or Control while resizing to maintain its aspect ratio.
2) Having to open another program to get pictures into FotoWall is very... :-\
3) I'd like to be able to rotate the pictures on their Z-axis, and maybe even do the cool color-changing stuff to the pictures themselves, not just the background (not sure if this would be beyond the scope of what you're trying to achieve here).
4) While it's already possible to resize an imported picture to fill the background, it'd be a lot less tedious if this could be done automatically.

Sorry if any of this came across as harsh. I just tend to give the most suggestions to apps that I see the most promise in. I look forward to the next release! :-) - Dec 08 2007

Are there any plans to implement support for programs that use setup.py for their installation? Kirocker Music Display

Audio Apps by Sebien 324 comments

Really nice little app, thanks a lot.

One very small request - I've placed Kirocker on a panel by itself, and I have the panel shrunk down to 20% width. What would be really nice is if I could shrink it to 1% and have the "Expand as required to fit contents" checkbox checked. I tried this and it ends up cutting off the text. Would this be possible/hard to fix within the constraints of KDE3, and if so, are you planning to make a Kirocker plasmoid? :-D

Thanks again for such a nifty tool. - Sep 20 2007

I'd been looking for something like this since I first started using Linux. I tried out the version that's in the Ubuntu repositories but it didn't do DVD cases. Just throwing this out there as a thought, but you might want to look into Splashy as well. It looks like it's becoming a popular alternative to Usplash, and from my understanding, Usplash is *only* for Ubuntu, whereas Splashy is more distro-agnostic. Again, just a thought.
