i'll confirm
i've tryed kubuntu and xgl+compiz with a ati x1600 mobility..but seems that with ati drivers xgl doen't works..
Let me say that i've found a wiki on this from a guy who had the same notebook and he made all worked great....so even with ati card you can use xgl..:)
and here you can find a fix for KDM and ATI

yes on new laptop..an asus a6j..the most incompatible laptop for linux^^
btw..until new driver for realtek eth connection r1000 is not present in kernel i can only use kubuntu..the only distro with this module enabled from precompiled old kernel..2.6.15.23..:(
The sigle propietary driver from realtek is available..but i revived error in compilation..so zenwalk still live only on my home pc.. - Aug 07 2006
